Hotel has a good position = from one side is a rush street with bus stop opposite to the Technical university and from the other side there is the Winterthur city center. You have to do the check-in by yourselve at the machine in front of the hotel. I never saw a staff at the reception. But everything worked well, so welcome to the 21st century. The room was nice, spacioius and clean. Only for 2 first night there were not coffee capsules but they were there on the 3rd day. The breakfast was pretty tasty and the breakfast room was very cosy. Wide range of selection of salty or sweet dishes. The breakfast was the only time we met some staff here otherwise just few guests around. There are definitely better and nicer hotels but as a business choice it was perfect.
My wife and I stayed at the Plaza hotel in Winterthur where we had prepaid for 4 nights, before transferring to the Park hotel for our remaining 2 nights in the city. Unfortunately, our stay at the Plaza was not enjoyable, as I will detail below. First, the good: The Plaza is located at one of the entrances to Old Town, so you can literally walk out of the hotel and onto Old Town pedestrian thoroughfares. There was a street fair during part of our stay, which meant that we could stroll to food and craft vendors in less than a minute. Our room, while small, was clean and nicely furnished in the modern minimalist style emblematic of contemporary Europe. Now the bad: Location and ambiance are great, but obviously the most important attribute any hotel offers is a good night’s sleep. In this, the Plaza failed miserably. It was a hot June day when we arrived, with the temperature hitting 80 degrees Fahrenheit. There are no climate controls in the rooms and it was uncomfortably warm. The windows were open when we checked in, but on a breezeless summer day, did nothing to cool us off. Worse, because our room was on the 2nd floor on the side of the hotel that faces the street rather than Old Town, traffic noise was terrible. We asked Zerrin, the front desk attendant, if there was air conditioning. She told us central air would automatically turn on late at night through the early morning. If this ever happened, we have no evidence of it. We then asked Zerrin to move us to a room facing Old Town because the street noise was so bad, and were curtly told that none were available for any of our four nights. Since we saw many checkouts during our stay, we think she really had no interest in helping us. Each night, we were therefore faced with two equally bad choices: 1) open the windows to try to let some cooler evening air trickle in at the expense of awful noise from both non-stop traffic and rowdy patrons of the corner bars, or 2) close the windows to diminish the noise and then try to sleep through the heat. We alternated between both. Needless to say, we slept poorly. In summary, if you like the nonstop cacophony of motorcycles, cars and buses mingled with cigarette smoke and the boisterous talking, arguing and even singing of bar patrons, then the Plaza might be for you. Otherwise, spend a little more and stay at the much nicer, and quieter, nearby Park hotel.…
A modern hotel with modern fixtures and fittings. Very comfortable. Our room had a comfortable double bed, electric window shutters, stocked fridge, safe and modern shower room. WiFi worked very well. Our room faced the street, but their windows were well insulated against noise.
I did not expect this hotel to be so spacious. It has a living room and bed room. The bathroom is also big with everything you need including a shower and tub. No usuals in EU. Not far from the train station and would highly recommend for personal or biz
I have stayed in the Plaza in Wintherthur while visiting a friend of mine. For Switzerland, it was a good price and I enjoyed the two nights. The rooms are spacious with a great shower and generally, a very lovely bathroom. The beds are big, unfortunatley a bit soft, but obviously it is an individual preference. The breakfast is at the roof top and I want to especially highlight a lady called Katja. She went far and beyond to accomodate my food allergies. She noted my preferences and the day after, everything was already waiting for me. I especially enjoyed the passion fruits whom I adored. The hotel bar is the only area I disliked as it is smoking area and I found it disgusting. So my usual glass of wine before a good night sleep hat to be postponed. Generally, it was a good stay in a very convenient location and I would book this hotel again. Also the staff at the hotel had been very helpful and friendly.…
I stayed at this hotel during my business trip in November 2018. Very nice and cosy hotel, staffs were very friendly and helpful. I was really impressed with the level of customer service by all the staffs. Nicole was outstanding for me , willing to assist. She assisted me in resolving the delivery of my courier from Belgium. The breakfast was good , though there was not a lot of variety. Room are average in size but very clean with modern furnitures. The hotel is well located centrally to the city and walking distance from the main train station. WiFi system very good . I will highly recommend this hotel. I will definitely stay there if on holidays.
We found this hotel last minute and straight from arrival they couldn’t of not help us enough . The staff very friendly , rooms nice and clean . They even had my request of extra pillows waiting for me . The hote is very centrally located and even though we didn’t get to the restaurant, the bar was lovely . I left my glasses case , they sent it on to me immediately. Great clean nice hotel in a beautiful town .
You can't get a better location in Winterthur than this. Directly on the beginning of the pedestrian area. It can be a bit noisy, but this is a city centre hotel, so to be expected. We had a large room on the top floor with a separate lounge. The deco is very Swiss... Mooted colours and minimalist, with very high-quality furnishings. However, a few small mistakes in the room: TV should be in the lounge not in the bedroom (or in both). There are no hooks anywhere for coats, towels and bags. The bathroom has nowhere for your wash bag, so we had to put our things on the floor although there was plenty of space for shelving or a unit. However, a nice espresso machine was waiting for me.,. The bar and restaurant are brand new and the food was good. Breakfast felt very slightly like breakfast in a bar, but we really enjoyed it anyway.…
We had an excellent overnight here this very nice hotel. They provided us a family room and a delicious breakfast with high levels of hospitality. I strongly recommend this amenity whoever visits this regions whatsoever purposes.
We made an overnight stop here, and very much liked the clean simplicity of this modern hotel. The central location is excellent for visiting the town centre, but the downside is that parking is quite difficult and certainly not cheap! A very comfortable bed and the Nespresso coffee machine was much appreciated too.No air conditioning, however, so I'm not sure I would want to stay here in warm weather as the noise from the streets (cars and people) could well keep me awake if the windows had to be opened. Overall, though, a charming hotel with charming staff.
