Sleep at the foot of the mighty Viertausend, down in the valley of the 13 stars, where wine and Mediterranean fruit is grown and the jolly Valais folk meet in the Carnotzet to enjoy a glass of wine. Sitten in German or Sion in French, the capital of the Valais, happily sees itself as the centre of the world. Or at least the Alpine world. And the modern, centrally-located youth hostel is an ideal sports and leisure post from which to discover the whole of the Valais.
Places to stay are graded on a 0-100 scale. The higher the grade, the easier it is for travellers to find restaurants and things to do within walking distance.

We spent one night at the Youthhostel in Sion during a field trip with the University. The place was all clean, the beds were comfortable, the breakfast (included) was fresh and there was freshly ground coffee for free! Very nice! But what I really want to point out was the friendly and helpful staff! You're great, thank you!

On arrival after a long train trip (which fortunately the railway line is across the road) we found that we were one room short so a colleague had to go elsewhere for our time there. 31 students, 4 staff and no performances for a few days. Everyone was rapt to have some time to themselves to sleep in, explore, spend time on their own or just hang out. The rooms are youth hostel standard as are the bathrooms. But everything is clean and fairly quiet. Breakfast was good - adequate. Dinner - ho hum. Frozen fish which wasn't the best. The students made the most of the TV (England vs Iceland EU game - go Iceland) and the table tennis tables outside. Or they'd eat their meals outside just to soak up some Vitamin D. The jets flying over were entertaining and created alot of discussion about the recent events in Paris - which was where we were heading. The hostel is a short walk into town and close to a number of attractions that are worth visiting like the castles on the hill. Note that you need Swiss Francs and they are hard to exchange back so get just enough as you need or use your credit card.

Hi, Glad you enjoyed your stay in our Youth Hostel and time in Sion. Indeed the airplanes (mostly army or private jets) fly over the building in the landing phase, but only during the day and in limited number. We profided meals in the evening and as you mentionned, we regularly have fish on the menu, that perticular recipe usually has success with our guest, maybe the sauce was the best one that day. Sorry about that. For internation guests, it is possible to pay either in Swiss Francs or Euro. Credit Cards are obviously also accepted. At the Train Station or nearby Banks you will be able to Exchange other currencies. Hope to see you again in Sion best greetings and thanks again for staying. Laurent

Hostel is nice and well handled. I bit to few items in kitchen (no oven!). Service is handled well by reception. Excellent location 50-100m from train station. Rooms small but works. All have balconies. Agree with previous writers that price might be a bit high.

Stayed here for a week together with another ~90 people from 24 different countries while we had an international event. Food was good as well, showers quite modern, beds comfortable . If I'll ever come back to Sion (and I hope I will) I definitely gonna stay there again

Typical youth hostel except for the price. 100 Swiss Francs ~ US$100 (non-members) for two people - private room without a bath. Right next to train station and airport. Could hear the train breaks on a regular basis throughout the night. There was nothing unusual about the hostel but there were nice hotels near the old town for 120 Swiss francs per night that had a bathroom.
I have stayed at many youth hostels and found them to be an outstanding option. This one was just pricey compared with other options in Sion. A fair price would be about 25 - 30 Swiss Francs per person.

I was very happy to find this, after my initial idea for the camping, which is located pretty remote while I came there by train.
So, that is the huge difference to start with: location-location-location! It is right next to the train station. On the other side of that there is the bus station, which I used for my trips to some bises. There is also a small supermarket on that side. Last but not least, it is also next to the city centre of Sion, which is really worth visiting.
The hostel itself is very new, clean and spacious. It has all facilities one needs, with very neat showers and toilets. The time I was there it was pretty quiet, at first I had a room of 4 to myself. One can also have dinner, which varies but can be quite nice. As a remark, take care to inform them you want dinner, as their office hours are not convenient when leaving early after breakfast.
The only disadvantage are the steep prices. But that is the sad thing about Switzerland, since they changed their policy on their currency. Of course, the hostel is still relatively cheap.

Stayed here for a couple of days prior to flying from Geneva. Scrupulously clean, very friendly staff and well positioned in the town. Will definitely stay again if I was in the area and would definitely recommend.
We used it as a base for a day of sport climbing in nearby Bramois, about a ten minute drive.

It is very easy to find from the station and close to the centre. The outside does look quite shabby, but it was clean and provided a place to sleep. There were people from different ages, and all very friendly.
The breakfast was typical continental and okayish.

We stayed for 2 nights due to working at a nearby tattoo convention. The hostel is very conveniently located next to Sion train station. The hostel is very spartanic, as expected. I had a two bedroom for myself, with shared bathroom and toilets. The bed was quite comfortable but the pillows were too bulky, so bring your own if you like flat pillows. Breakfast was included and consisted of typical Swiss breakfast: bread, jam, cheese, some cold cuts, müsli, fruit juice. I think its a good place to stay with children, if you dont need your own bathrooms. If you want a little more than just the bare necessities dont stay here. A bit pricey for a hostel but thats Switzerland. It was ok for us as we really just used it for sleeping. Oh, everything was very clean.

Hi
It's summer time in Sion :-)
Aircon isn't installed at the Youthhostel but by closing Windows and shutters during the day, we are able to keep the inside temperature between 5 and 10 degrees fresher then outside.
Our local climat is the same as that of the Méditerranéen area. The lake at the domaine des Îles, isn't quite as big as the sea but it's definively great to refresh theese days.
We have plenty of cool local craft beer to enjoy on in the shaded garden.
Hope to welcome you soon.
bonjour,
les animaux ne sont pas acceptés dans les auberges de jeunesse suisses.
