Wow! That really sums up our experience of staying at Hotel Cabana in one word. A lovely family-run hotel that is small enough to be super-friendly, without compromising on standards. We had a spacious room with a balcony providing stunning views of the valley, and the Eiger. Chairs with warm rugs, and a table meant this was a comfortable place to sit and simply absorb those views which changed as the light shifted during the day. Inside the spacious room, a small table and chairs made a thoughtful addition for those wishing to eat there. A fridge, a kettle, cups, glasses, bottle of water and complimentary bottle of red wine from the hosts on arrival all helped to make this feel like home for the two weeks we were there. There was always ample hot water and as well as replenishing the tea/coffee when the room was cleaned daily, there was an additional selection box of teas at reception from which guests could select at any time. The breakfast buffet was delicious, and although there are no evening meals served here, the hosts were more than happy to book restaurant tables or taxis on our behalf. They also helped to identify useful contacts for activities in the valley. A ski room with heaters, meant our wet gear was dry and warm for the next day. And, although we didnt use them, we noted that a small lounge area (with drinks and snacks to purchase), a sauna and a fitness area were also available. We had the most wonderful stay and would highly recommend Hotel Cabana…
Pros: - Large balcony with amazing views of the Eiger. - Large room. Everything works. - Quiet because it is outside the main part of town. (may be a con for some) - If you need a midnight snack, there is a freezer by the main stairway. Honesty system. Cons: - Good, but repetitive breakfast. - Room retro-design might not be to everyone's taste.
In contrast to a 4star chain hotel in Zurich, this hotel was clean and kept clean. Beds comfortable and hot water plentiful, when needed. A little out of the Dorf which enhanced its attraction with stunning views from the room..the choice if you have it...is either a room with a terrace or at ground level from which one’s toes can touch the grass. Orange juice at breakfast was fresh...a welcome surprise. Family and staff helpful.
We selected this hotel based on the reviews and expected mountain views. We were not disappointed - the hotel met all our needs and the uninterrupted views from our Enzian (superior) room was simply amazing (see picture). All the staff were friendly and exceedingly helpful, whether serving breakfast, advising on restaurants or booking train tickets. Our room was spacious with full length patio doors leading to a private patio with setas, sun lounger and umbrella. A fridge, safe, hair dryer and USB charging ports were all useful. The bathroom tiles were a bit dated and the towels could have been better. However these were very minor grumbles that did not impact our stay. The continental buffet breakfast suited our needs with plenty of choice. Th 7-8 minute hike up hill to the village centre and station might put some off but we found it not to be an issue.…
The view of the Eiger filled our window! Best hotel on our trip. The balcony has large glass doors giving us that unforgettable view! The room was very nice - good size, comfy chair and hassock, queen size bed, TV, ( with English channels), kettle with a selection of teas and coffee, and a safe. It's just a short walk up into town for restaurants, shops, even a Coop. It's also just a few blocks up to the train station for the trip up to the Jungfrau. Breakfast is served in the dining room and includes assorted breads and croissants, yogurt with mix-ins, hard boiled eggs, sliced meats and cheeses. Coffee, tea and juice are available. Stay here for the mountain view!!
Lovely Staff, Tasty Breakfast (A selection of Swiss cheese, Croissant, Bread, Fruits and Juices) and the best spot in Grindelwald. This hotel is so clean and offers the best views of Eiger. You can never go wrong with this hotel. If I ever come back to Grindelwald this will be my number 1 choice.
Hotel Cabana would arguably have to have the best unobstructed view over the valley to the Eiger from their Eiger view room balconies, and the balconies are the perfect place to sip a wine and enjoy a cheese or two and watch the world go by. In fact, it’s hard to draw oneself away from that view and go elsewhere! This a lovely, family run hotel with good sized rooms and a pleasant simple breakfast (the only hot food is boiled eggs) There is also an ‘honesty’ fridge in the hotel with soft drinks, wine, beer and milk. It’s a short downhill walk from the station, and there are plenty of restaurants and a supermarket in walking distance. A great half day trip from here is to walk 10-15 down to the gondolas going up the mountains to Mannlichen, take the gondola and walk from Mannlichen to Kleine Scheidegg, an easy and just about all downhill alpine walk on a broad path with the most stunning views of the mountains and valleys. The walk takes about 2 hours if you are stopping to take photos all the time like we were. At Kleine Scheidegg, stop for refreshments if you like and catch the train back to Grindelwald. And all in half a day! To my mind, the best thing to do to experience the alpine landscape if you are short of time and not into serious trekking. Highly recommended! …
Away from the busy street...walking distance from railway stn. Gorgeous view of the Eiger mountain from our balcony. Very friendly staff and ok breakfast. Short walk to main marketplace...but we also enjoyed some walks in the countryside right in front of the hotel. Will surely recommend.
This hotel is one of the best I have stayed in my Swiss tour. All the rooms are facing the valley and Mount Eiger. The rooms are decent in size and offer all the basic amenities like tea/coffee maker, hot shower etc. They also have a in-house breakfast facility. It is located on a 5 min walk from the station. It is a family run hotel and the thus they have personal touch to it. They offer a parking space. They have recreation amenities like a Table tennis table. spa etc. A must stay and highly recommended hotel in Grindelwald.
My husband an I spent 3 nights in this lovely hotel - looking back, it's still like a dream... The view from our room was just amazing.... I couldn't stop taking photos from my balcony dawn to dusk.. I felt like it was the best part in Grindelwald honestly. The room was so clean and had everything we needed including a microwave! The staffs were all very nice and helpful. Special thanks to Christie and Bettina! they made our stay absolutely fantastic. We'll definitely come back when we visit Switzerland next!
