Very old style hotel, room was ok sized but with a filthy 70-ties carpet. Balconies are separated by a wood panel and neighbours can be heard as if we were sharing the same room. Worst thing was toilette: dirty (see photo) and the cheap plastic was falling down every time. Breakfast is rather good with a large choice and rather good quality. I’d give max 3 star.
Many superb offerings.. Outstanding breakfast, beautifully presented. Gastrube staff need better training. Some hotel staff could use training in English language. What other comments could I make and why do you require 200 words?
I had walked from Interlaken on check-in day, and had made sure to walk up to the hills to see everything I could and take in as much as I can, and the views around Grindelwald are spectacular. I arrived around 6pm, after walking for 8 hours and was delighted to see that the hotel was luxurious and warm, and first impressions where fantastic, I really felt I was in for a good night stay here. The check-in was easy, the staff very friendly, and couldn’t do enough and gave me the advice I asked for. The hotel is very modern, and has a true ski resort feel to it, I haven’t been there, but something like this I would imagine would fit in in the Colorado ski resorts. It was very warm, very cosy and very modern and clean. The rooms are really nice, again warm, cosy and comfortable, with a tv, espresso machine, a desk with charging ports a nice balcony and a really nice bathroom with a great shower. The only thing I was disappointed with was the flat pillow, I am used to 2 chucky ones, so ideally, I think there should be 2 pillows on offer, or at least there a spare one in the room if the guest needs it, other than that, it’s the perfect hotel. But there is a best bit, and it’s the balcony in the lounge area, you step out and right in front of you is a view a billionaire would be happy with, its spectacular. Breakfast is very nice, loads on offer, I had bacon and scrambled eggs, cornflakes and coffee and could have had plenty more, it’s very good and a really nice breakfast room. This is a very nice hotel, if I can find a deal to return when I go back, I will stay here.…
I loved the check in process and the shuttle bus that picked us up at the train station! After a long day if travelling and knowing we had a 15min walk ahead it was pleasantly surprising to see the bus waiting there, albeit for someone else but they took us anyhow :-) The check in process was straight forward and the room was very nice, toasty warm with the bathroom especially hot. Fantastic views of the Eiger and Jungfrau from the room.and balcony. The room is a good size with a king/superking sized bed. It has soft drinks included which are replenished daily and a decent amount of space to keep your clothes and ski gear. They have a laundry room on the ground level which was great and they also have a ski gear room for you to leave your skis, boots and helmet. The inclusive breakfast was extensive with a large seating area and a number of self service options. They also had a chefs station for eggs to be cooked for your liking, all in it was a great start to the day. The staff were very friendly throughout our stay and accommodating at all times. It's very close to First, I can literally walk out the hotel and cross the road to the first berg station. The one downside was trying to get food at the restaurant, we only managed to get a table once in our 2 week stay :-( …
I have a chance to stay in this hotel for 2 nights, and I love this hotel so much. My first impression about this hotel is the hotel reception , she so nice and kind. The room is really nice and clean with a balcony. It doesn’t matter which side of your room is facing because you will always get a very good view with Eiger or other mountain view around the area which is really cool for layback and zip your favorite drink while you are enjoy a million dollar view. The dining room is just simply excellent with a huge glass wall from floor to ceiling so you can enjoy your breakfast and watching the Eiger at the same time. The breakfast here is really good with the variety of food to choose from. The parking space is 10 CHF per night which is a good deal to me. As I said on the title of this review, the hotel location is just perfect, the Grindelwald - First Gondola Station is right opposite of the hotel and all other place is just a few minute walk from the hotel. I would strongly recommend anyone while you are in town and looking for a place to stay with a very good deal on what you are paying for, this is a place for you.…
Staff was friendly, the breakfast was extraordinarily delicious. The location is just fantastic! Service and cleanliness were very good, too. The rooms are way too small, getting a good sleep difficult.
Super hotel with top location! Spacefull and clean rooms, excellent breakfast, amazing terrace with view on the mountains, very nice pool + sauna's, very friendly staff,...it was just a perfect stay at Grindelwald!
Totally unreasonable price for an average room...I understand is it Easter week end but it does not justify the cost with the room you get. Total disappointment. I feared the hotel was going to be "cold" I got the confirmation upon arrival and when I stepped into the room. Unreasonable is the word. dinoB
The service, ambience and location of this hotel are all perfect. This was a hotel that I thoroughly looked forward to returning to after a long day’s skiing. I hope to visit Grindelwald again in future and I shall look no further than the Sunstar. 5* experience.
It was almost perfect - all the way from the check-in, amenities, meals and service! Mattress and pillows were a tad too soft but all the other positives out weighs this aspect. The restaurant, indoor and outdoor lounges offers a fantastice breathtaking views of the alps! Definitely worth going back to!
