This hotel was everything we wanted. It was next to the gondola, First. Ann, the owner, made sure everything was perfect for our stay. The beds and pillows were comfortable. The breakfast and dinner were delicious. The views of the Eiger were superb. It was quiet and cool at night to sleep. We highly recommend!
The hotel is quite centrally located. Rooms are spacious and comfortable. The lady who did the booking and checked us in Ruth is wonderful and warm. The breakfast is good too. Definitely worth a stay. Also it is right next to the adventure zone of Gribdlewald and within walking distance.
Just returned today 26/2/22 after a 6 night stay with the family. Was a last minute booking direct with the hotel after switching from France. It could not have been more perfect as I hate walking in ski boots and the chidren were able to switch between skis and snowboards as we were right next door to the First Gondola. The hotel was charming, Lovely rooms with balconies overlooking the mountains. The owner was very helpful and we enjoyed a lovely breakfast daily.. If they added the firepit tables outside the bar this would be an added bonus after a days skiing. Will definately return..
Description holds true, no more no less. Staff is friendly. If you want to visit or ski on First, hotel is literally next door to gondola station. Overall charming chalet hotel with omnipresent mountain feel. Hotel is quiet at night, also thanks to its location behind the main street.
Great location, the bus stop is right there, the First cable car is right there, and it is about 10min away from the train station, just out of all the tourist noise. The room had an amazing view from the balcony, which had two chairs and a table. The owner was very helpful. The cable car to Pfingstegg is also minutes away. Good breakfast, and set back from the road so quiet.
Located next to the cable car station, parking at the main entry and a spacious, clean and authentic room at a very affordable price confirmed our choice. The super friendly staff making everything possible even before we had checked in is just way over the top!
Just completed our third stay at the Alte Post. A perfect hotel for those who enjoy a more " authentic" experience. No glitz, no chrome, just a comfortable, quiet, family run hotel with a great location and friendly staff. Nice little bar, excellent breakfast, beautiful views from rooms in the front. The Firstbahn is located literally outside the door and the train station is an easy 15 minute walk. And be sure to have dinner at the adjacent family run restaurant. Excellent food, good service. Can't wait to return. We have had the good fortune to travel extensively in Europe and this is one of our 2 or 3 favorites!
Great stop after a terrifying bicycle hide from First to next door shop. Nice to relax over a cool beer. The staff were friendly. We had a crowd so we had to pull tables together. Didn’t try the food but the menu looked good.
I have traveled much of Switzerland throughout my life and I always return to Grindelwald for its postcard setting. This time I decided to stay at the Chalet Hotel Alte Post because of its A+ location right next to the First Gondola. Traveling with a family of four we chose the the 'family apartment' with two separate bedrooms and a central living room. The room was absolutely fabulous with a giant balcony and sweeping views of the most beautiful mountains in the Berner Oberland. The room and the entire hotel ooze with Swiss alpine ambience with a very helpful and professional staff to assist with any questions for your time in Grindelwald. The breakfast was excellent and served in a lovely room connected to the cozy hotel bar and outdoor terrace. The hotels situation is perfect because it sits back from the noise of the main road but still maintains beautiful views of the surroundings in all directions. In addition, you are only minutes from numerous dining options (including the hotel's delicious restaurant) and all the excitement of Grindelwald's main tourist street. You can sit on the hotel's picturesque terrace and watch all the happy tourists walk up the hill to catch a ride on the First Mountain Gondola. With the hotel's coveted position just next to the gondola's entrance, you can easily whisk up into a stunning alpine environment and experience the most spectacular mountain scenery you will find anywhere in Switzerland.... or the world. Ana Gruber is the wonderful owner of the hotel and could not of been more helpful. We actually left our passports and money in the room safe and she offered to drive it to us almost two hours away so our trip would not be interrupted. Thank you so much to Ana and her staff for a wonderful time in the Chalet Hotel Alte Post. If you are considering a visit to Grindelwald, look no further than the Hotel Alte Post for your perfect Swiss holiday!!…
