I went to the restaurant to eat dinner and I had the best Flammenkuche I ever had for a long time! It didn't feel too fat or too heavy, on the contrary it was light and savoury. Service was also great.
We booked a superior family room with mountain views. Really comfortable beds, cozy with a really nice breakfast included. Friendly staff. Did not try dinner but fondue supposed to be great! Minigolf opposite is fun too in the evenings
Hotel Restaurent Hirschen is a great hotel, dead on the high street in Grindelwald, about 5 minutes walk from the train station. There is parking right across the street (space for about 10 cars, next to the mini golf). My double room was clean, spacious and modern. Only two concerns about this place: some of the rooms have a glass bathroom door, and some (the Love room?) don't have *any* bathroom door at all. Why do you do this ?! So, I would recommend telephoning the hotel in advance to check which type of room you really want, particularly if you're sharing with a friend. I stayed at the end of May, it had been cool during the day (jeans/thick-jumper weather), yet during the night, the room was really hot. During summer, this might not be the best place to stay. It doesn't have air conditioning, but did seem to have an odd 1970s box attached to the wall to blow/suck air into the room. Also note that some of the rooms have amazing mountain views, but other rooms face the opposite direction... Trust me, it's worth paying a little extra for the gorgeous view. Overall, this is my favourite hotel in Grindelwald, great breakfast, friendly helpful staff, and perfect location. Oh, there's a sauna downstairs, which is free if you're staying 2 nights or more.…
What a delightful hotel! Room: The room was large, modern, and impeccably clean. It included a large tub that easily fits two people and a shower with great water pressure. Bed: Bed was two twins pushed together, with firm foam mattresses. Bedding is a traditional individual down/down alternative comforters. Dining: The hotel is on the main street - close to everything, and yet not noisy. We breakfast room in the hotel offers classic boiled eggs, meats, cheeses, breads, jams, muesli, yogurt, fruit, and A JUICING MACHINE! That was a great hit for us. We juiced apples, carrots and ginger daily before hitting the slopes. The restaurant also served dinner -- fondue and other classics. All delicious. Location: We easily walked from the train station to the hotel. SItuated on the main street, we were near pubs, restaurants, and shops. We were walking distance to the funicular to First, where we boarded one day. In the spring/summer First is great for hiking, riding the First Flyer, and decending the mountain on the pedal-free bikes. …
Hotel Hirschen is a very comfortable, traditional hotel, with a good location on the Main Street in Grindelwald, 5 minutes walk from the station. Our room had a balcony, and two windows with views of the Eiger, Monch and Jungfrau peaks (room 443). The breakfast is excellent, with a great selection. Very good value for hotels in Switzerland.
The hotel is located the center of Grindelwald, a small village enclosed by majestic mountains on every side (Elevation: 3,392′). Train station and First cable car are within 5 to 7 minutes of walk. This was our kind of base camp for travelling Grindelwald First, Kleine Scheidegg, and top of Europe Jungfrau. Nice place to stay but very expensive. Good breakfast and staffs are nice.
About 600m from the station, small room size, acceptable breakfast for the price, beware no A/C , summers can be pretty hot, location takes advantage of views of Mt Eiger and is close to a halal food restaurant
Great location, staff were a bit hit and miss, somewhere really nice and some were quite rude. We missed breakfast one morning and I ran down stairs to grab whatever I could and the lady cleaning up didn’t offer me any assistance. However one lady at the reception loaned us umbrellas when it started to rain which was nice.
My wife and I stayed in a "Comfort" double room in Hotel Hirschen for 2 nights during June. The hotel is a short walk (less than 10 minutes with suitcases) from Grindelwald railway station and on the main street, so easily found. It is a traditional, chalet-style building. Our room was comfortable and had a balcony with a fantastic view of the Eiger - perfect for a sundowner gin and tonic! The double bed was comfortable (albeit twin mattresses, which seems to be standard for the region) and bathroom modern and well appointed. Breakfast was included in the room rate and was excellent. Good choice of cereals, deliciously fresh bread, rolls, croissants and self -boiled eggs c/w egg timer - perfect if you prefer to do your own. Check-in and check-out was simple and the staff we saw were without exception friendly and helpful. An ideal place to stay if Grindelwald is part of your tour of Switzerland.…
To obtain a nice table in the 1st floor restaurant it is adviceble to book a table at noon or so, because there are just a few 4pers. tables at the window side. The strong points on the menue are the traditional Swiss courses, and we had the Cheese Fondue : 1 classic, and 1 Hirschen Special (with herbs , small pieces of bacon, garlic ), and a nice Cote du Rhone. The Cheese Fondue will be served with small cube's of bread, or suppl. with potatoes and pickles.
