Grindelwald is a wonderful place to visit and we enjoyed our stay at the hotel Sonnenberg so much . Lovely room and worth paying a little extra for a balcony with a mountain view . Sitting out there in the evening watching the sun set on the mountains was priceless . Excellent breakfast with plenty of choice to set you up for the day . Only a few minutes walk down to the Main Street with all the restaurants etc and the station . Would love to return again one day .
A wonderful stay in Sonnenberg hotel. Our room had a balcony and amazing views of the Eiger. We just bought a bottle of wine and watched the sun set against the mountains. Magical. Friendly staff, spacious room, great breakfast. Convenient location near the station.
We were six family members, I stayed for several nights in a single room (104) with an awesome mountains view in the morning. All staff were very friendly and welcoming, the host was very helpful whenever we needed any information about sightseeing and activities. The location was perfect as it was only few minutes walk to the train station or the town. The walk up to hotel was a bit steep and might be challenging to some people with heavy luggage but just take your time and enjoy the beautiful views around you while walking up. Will definitely stay there again if I visit Grindelwald in the future.
This hotel has a great location, comfortable and very clean rooms with beautiful views. It’s the perfect hotel for a weekend getaway in the mountains. The hosts also provide all the information you will need for your hikes.
Recently stayed here and had a good trip. Hotel clean, a bit too warm at times but cosy.Zuperior double room had a wonderful view of the village and Eiger, It could be very tricky to access in snowy/icy weather as it is very steep, be it a quick walk. Breakfast was good and adequate for a Swiss hotel. Yoghurts, a little fruit, bread, jam, croissants and cereal. No problems parking. The village was a quick 2 min walk as was the bus and train station.A but of noise some nights from the bar next to the Mammut shop but not all week. We found a ladies bra on the radiator in our bedroom.....I am sure someone will find it one day but room not checked very well before turnaround.Would stay here again. As with Grindelwald, nothing is cheap for what it is.
Booked the stay at Hotel Sonnenberg only a week in advance and was surprised by the reasonable prices. The staff is helpful and very friendly, our room was cute and the location is good (you can leave your ski near the station with the hotel guest card). Great views from the restaurant and nice breakfast buffet. (thank you for the gluten-free bread ;)) I recommend! :)
I have literally just left this hotel and from the moment we arrived until the moment we left was just perfect. The staff were so friendly and couldn't help enough. I will definitely be back and would definitely recommend this hotel.View from balcony.
We stayed at the Hotel Sonnenberg for 5 nights using Grindelwald as the base for our explorations. It was really superb! After a stretching walk up the hill (easy for anyone with moderate fitness - just stop every now and again to enjoy the magnificent view!) we were given an incredibly warm welcome from the young lady in charge. She was lovely. Lots of information provided which proved invaluable, We had chosen a mountain view room with balcony and to say the view was breathtaking is an understatement. I've stayed in hotels all around the world and this was the pinnacle! Everything else was spot on. Value, cleanliness, facilities, breakfast etc. Thank you so much for a brilliant break!!
The last two visits to Grindelwald we stayed for one week in Hotel Sonnenberg: Located 8 minutes walk from the end station of Grindelwald Bahn. You cannot go by car to the hotel entrance. Parking place1oo meters from the hotel, then walk slowly up to the hotel. In the reception you will always get good advices concerning hiking and transport. Ask for a room with view direction Kleiner Scheidegg and Eiger. (room 4 ratings). Breakfast is not luxurious but adequate. 15 minutes walk to the "Grindewald First Bahn". To go to the start oft he Männlichen Bahn take the bus from the bus station 5 minutes walk from the hotel.
I travel a lot around the world, however a hotel giving you a penalty of €45,- by a check in after 19.00 is totally new and unacceptable for me. Because of my comment about this issue they were not so friendly anymore. The rooms were average but clean. The badroom could use a paint job and however the hotel is situated very beautiful, under and behind the hotel it looked like a junkyard. If this is the Swiss precision, well no Thank you for me!.,
