Good location right next to the train station. A bar is available, clean but a bit "grubby". The room was very stale, quite noisy in the hallway all night and clearly overpriced. The staff barely speaks English and was quite unfriendly. in my opinion. I was not sure whether I was in Switzerland or Romania. Maybe OK to drink a few beers but not recommended as a hotel / motel. As a tip for the owners; a dress code would leave a more professional impression, blue jeans, old shoes and washed out tshirts are not appealing at all...
Booking via website on May 5th for August 11th, confirmation received by mail, several messages on combox and telephone conversations to confirm our arrival. In the end, the reserved rooms were not available, no traces of our reservation ! Not professional at all. Impression of an Hotel very badly managed, looking neglected and dirty.
Weird. Owner comes into your room and wakes you up twice in the middle of the night with the credit card machine asking you to pay right now because he's going to sleep until 11 AM and reception will be closed. Never saw anything like this. Unacceptable! Room and shower were ok though. Skip this "hotel" and go somewhere else, it will be more expensive but you'll be able to spend your night without being disturbed.
I booked this place because the web page looked interesting but the reality is quite different. I also have to admit that we arrived there on a very hot day and that maybe my days of backpacker spirit may have passed. Regardless! The building is an old house certainly with some character I booked an individual room and this was in the 3rd floor with no air conditioning. The room was stifling despite opening the window, no air circulation at all. When the open the window the noise from the road and the bar below is quite strong. I feared that I was not going to sleep at all that night. Fortunately there was a strong thunderstorm that sent everybody inside and I managed to have some peace. The bathrooms are shared and even the light bulb in the men toilet room was burned, literally shi&^&& in the dark The place has a pub downstairs and it looks like party central. I suppose good if you go there for a party and then crawl to your room with enough beer that nothing else matters. Rooms are basic and as somebody else noted it is a challenge to find a place to charge your phone. Overall way too expensive for what you get. Prices were quite similar to other hotels in the city. I will not be back…
It is called Crossbox Backpackers, but it doesn't cover the package . I Don't know how to rate this hotel . It had a nice atmosphere, but still things tend to be negative. Like walking in there is a nice wooden antique reception, but well,.... it is just for deco, just try one of the doors . One does say something like restaurant , but when you enter, it is full of darts and craftsman having lunch; did I entered a canteen ? Things are advertised as "craftsman's dinner" So try the other door "yes a BAR !" Now I got the backpackers feel ! Everything totally alternative, A DJ set, cool music. And then,... Okee ... I have to pay immediately for my room? not the backpacker-hostels I am used where it is "when do you want to pay ? when you leave, some where in between, ever ?" Things like paying in advance doesn't come by it selves but still , it gives me not a happy feeling; paying my bill directly, and also after each meal. Then the meals where kind of poor, can be the cook was ill or what ever, but can't tell you al about the nice special they got, especially since at the door there is a sign telling you all about the nice food they serve. What they didn't. I slept in a private room, what was awesome spacy, liked the room a lot, but it was to nice again for a backpackers. But the Wifi didn't reach this room. Then the shower on the floor, well it is a shower and a curtain. when you step out of the shower, every body can see you're schrumpf nudel. You can't put away you're room key in a secure place. So the shower on the 3rd floor isn't really thought trough. So I am really in to doubt about this place, It has some really good features, but some really bad features. I am really wondering what this hotel is about, is this just some one who had the money to open a hotel and had the idea to make it a backpackers, just because there wasn't a backpackers in Schaffhausen ? But never backpacked for real him selves ? This hotel better can be rated as a good budget hotel, then probably it would be rated better here on tripadvisor.…
A guest at the hotel at busy times shall share Bathrooms with other guests, No plug points to charge electronic devices, WI FI does not work in Top Floor , where I stayed. Breakfast was nothing for 10 swiss francs, This place should be charging about 50-60 us $ for the facilities they provide, Since it was winter and off peak time, the facilities looked cleaner.
Interesting properties in the old style. You can use the room to yourself for the price 85CHF, or you choose a room for more than one person-multi for price 40 CHF.The following premisies are located nice pab.The city centre is within easy reach.
To be honest we were attracted by price and while cheap not so cheap that you shouldn't expect towels or less dingy communal toilets and showers. The breakfast is particularly poor value- 10 euros for a glass of juice, a coffee, a slice of bread and couple of bits of ham. That said the place has an interesting edgy feel located as it is behind the station and surrounded by on going development either side like the little old lady's house in one of the Herbie films. It also seems to have a permanent coterie of locals smoking and drinking at the bar. Interesting to have stayed once but would not repeat.
I needed a place for my son (25) to stay while he visited me.They put him in a single room that gave him his space and peace of mind. He had a great time, met the local crowd, who showed him how the Swiss party. The staff was friendly and helpful
We enjoyed the Crossbox. Clean, quiet rooms, just a block or two fm. the train station. It is a shower down the hall, bring your own towel (or rent one for 5 Fr.s) sort of place but the price was right, the rooms handsome and the staff friendly.
