I had a thoroughly enjoyable stay here. I was made very welcome and all the staff are helpful and friendly. My room was super with clean, well fitted bathroom too. The location is just on the edge of the centrum but this is a plus because you don’t have all the tourist hordes around, but it only takes a couple off minutes to walk to the centre of the Old Town, so it is perfect.
Stayed 1 week for a seminar. This place is effectively an extension of the Rebstock hotel 100m away. The weirdest feature is the complicated building layout and un-intuitive room numbering. This is probably due to it being 2 old buildings merged together. Beware of level changes and tight passages and stairs; or use the elevator :). The room I got was very very small, and lacked a proper wardrobe, a desk to sit and work, a proper chair, etc. However, all furniture seems high quality grandfather-style (wrought iron bed, e.g), which could be very agreeable if not for the drawbacks. The bathroom equipment is also high quality but the area very small : the sink corner kept hitting my thigh every time I entered/exited. A good point is the big shower cabin (double the usual size). Breakfast is good and offers a lot, despite having no variation from day to day whatsoever. The scrambled eggs were desperately dry everyday. More butter and less heat, please. Breakfast is served in the restaurant, using the same dim "ambiance" lighting as for dinner, which does not help in putting guests in a working mood. Some harsher light will be welcome for breakfast. Reception and restaurant staff are professional, efficient, nice, and helpful.…
I got into Lucerne after flying all night from Portland, Oregon, and was very happy to find the hotel was clean and neat. There is only a partial elevator, but the front desk staff brought my luggage to me. The room was fairly small, but it was advertised as a single, and it was certainly big enough for one person. I had no trouble finding outlets to charge my electronics. The bathroom door was glass - I'm not sure that all rooms are that way, but it could be awkward if you are sharing a room with a friend. The hotel is associated with the hotel across the street, and both have restaurants. I was on a bit of a budget and I'm not a "foodie", so I went towards the lake and found a small diner that was much less expensive for dinner. Breakfast was included the next morning and there was a large selection of food including eggs and different meats. There were lots of pastries/breads to choose from, and yogurt as well. The restaurant area is very pretty - there is outdoor seating in a garden when the weather is good. This is within walking distance from the train station. You have to walk a little ways (I don't have the exact distance in front of me), but it is a very pedestrian-friendly walk around the edge of the lake. I didn't have much time in Lucerne, but I will probably stay here again.…
Hotel Hofgarten is the typical Building Architecture with sloping roofs and a garden courtyard. the Rooms are comfortable, service is great, the reception staff is friendly and welcoming. They also ever willing to give directions. the Lifts are upto the 2nd floor, and we had a room on the fourth floor, however the reception staff helped us to carry our baggae both during check in and check out for the top two floors. Need more electric connections points in the room for charging the phone though. There are fans available in the room for hot summer nights.
We stayed in a twin-bed room overlooking the outside restaurant. Room on the small side with small bathroom but it was clean and bed was comfortable. We had a fridge and complimentary bottled water. Not your typical European powerpoints but staff provided them on request. Room style is definitely quaint, some would be disappointed that it is not modern but that is the charm of the hotel - every room is different. Our room was good as it was on the 2nd floor and reached via the lift. There is no lift to the next floor and we could not have managed the stairs with our heavy luggage. Breakfast was good, although choice was limited. Plenty to eat if you love meats and cheeses and fresh bread. We were not aware that we could order an omelette The only negative. No air-conditioning. It was very hot during our stay. The room is quiet with the windows closed but noisy with them open. We had to keep the windows closed at night which made the room extremely hot. The fan provided created a bit of a breeze but really only circulated the hot air. We would definitely stay here again but probably not in the middle of summer.…
