Great location, directly in the city centre, right next to one of the historical bridges. Nice pool in the garden. The rooms are clean, but old fashion style and would need refresh in my opinion. No restaurant.
Baslertor Summer Pool Hotel is an average 3-star hotel. It is slightly dated but very clean and quite comfortable. Unfortunately it does not have AC. It might not be a problem in general - there is a ceiling fan in the room. But if one of your kids is sleeping on an upper bunk bed, the heat is unbearable. Of course, if you are visiting in colder months, you don't have to worry about it. They do not offer breakfast but provide you with tips for cafes near by that do (Melissa's Kitchen is wonderful). Their best feature is the location - really close to the river, right between the two ancient wooden bridges but off the beaten track enough that you don't get tourists cruising under your window, with plenty of lovely restaurants nearby. The train station is about 10 - 15 minutes walk (with heavy suitcases).…
-central location and Basletor provides rooms with private bath - no a/c -we booked a family room for 4 - it was essentially a regular room with an additional bunk bed - there is essentially no place to move in the room or keep your luggaage. constantly have to worry about banging your head against the bunk bed or getting your hand into the low ceiling fan - check out time is 10am (since when has this become a norm?) - and no flexibility to even give us an extra hour
The lady at the front was nice, however our room was terrible. There is no AC and it was so hot at night as we were on the 4th floor. We opened the window but bugs came into our room! I would have never booked a 350 per night room as this. I asked to cancel in the morning and they said no. I moved to another hotel that was less and so much nicer. I will dispute these charges with my CC company! Go anywhere else when in Lucerne!!!
The Hotel has an excellent location, can’t beat it for seeing the sights! The rooms are surprisingly large with bathrooms (that should be displayed in the hotel pics). The ambiance is quiet and quaint with an added bonus of the pool and hot tub it is the perfect place for a family. The only down fall is the very rude afternoon front desk employee Roger Fader. This employee decided to argue with my wife in front of the children over ice, yes ice. The first night we were there I called down about ice and was told by Mr. Fader that I would have to come down to get ice and the next morning We again got ice from the front desk employee for the kids water bottles. So that afternoon after a hot day my wife returns and Mr. Fader now tells her she must pay five Francs for a cup of ice. My wife was of course shocked and refused to pay that much for ice and wanted to know why it was only now this mysterious charge came up. Mr. Fader told her he was getting tired of her attitude and berated her in front of the children telling her she had a big mouth. Once I got back to the hotel I confronted Mr. Fader about this situation and he told me that ice is always five dollars and that he was doing us a favor (keep in mind this ridiculous charge is nowhere to be found and was never disclosed by the Mr. Fader prior to this). I did stop at a few other hotels who all insisted that they did not charge for ice and that was ridiculous that he were being asked for five Francs. I asked Mr. Fader if his hotel is the only hotel in Lucerne to charge five francs for ice and was told yes. I then asked for the managers and/or owners contact and was stonewalled and only given the firstname.lastname@example.org (That Mr. Fader also has access too). This one employee is the dark blemish on what was an otherwise great experience, we spent 14 days in Switzerland and I have to say that Roger Fader single handedly destroyed the Lucerne experience while staying at such a lovely hotel. I am writing this more to the hotels management and owner in hopes that they can train Mr. Fader in the art of customer service so other travelers vacation experience will not be ruined as well.…
