Looking for a relaxing break in the Swiss Alos, close to the slopes, I found this little gem: a hotel, pretty rustique in the traditional Swiss way! Not far from the heart of Engelberg but far enough to contemplate the sky, see the stars and hear only the heartbeat of nature. Clean, very very clean, with comfortable rooms, not big, just comfy, most with a balcony overviewing the village. Staff, super nice and polite, ready to help and advise: had a 10% discount in my ski rental and anytime I wanted to go skiing they got in the minivan and took me to the resort! The restaurant was also nice, with delicious dishes and a savvy wine list. Not to miss! Only point I would like to note, the breakfast buffet: every day the same, not always fresh fruits available. Would like some variety and some chocolate croissants, please! Overall, a must go!

I checked out yesterday and today I want to go back. The food is unbelievable and extremely nice atmosphere. Location of the hotel is little out of the city of Engelberg and it just takes you 5 min to walk in town. Small and nice city with a lot of services.

The Hotel is located alongside a hill overlooking Engelberg. The hotel is made entirely of wood. I was lucky, that this still did not disturb me. The rooms were decently big with a massive balcony. From here you can witness the beautiful mountains. I don't think there was an air conditioner, but my stay was very comfortable. Decent WiFi connection. The breakfast spread was lovely. Mt. Titlis base station is about 15 mins walk from the Hotel. It is best to come to this hotel if you have a moderate size vehicle or similar. You can bring your vehicle as close as possible to the property from where you can drag your luggage into the hotel. Since the closest public transportation is at a distance, those traveling with a Swiss Travel Pass may avoid this hotel.

A group of couples and friends (17 in total) had a wonderful time stayng at the Balknialp for 8 days half board. The service was top notch and the food at the hotel restaurant is only mached by a michelin star restaurant. New chef. The 3 course menu was something we where excited about every day and we even greeted the chef by clapping on our last day. The hotel shuttel drove us to the lift and back every day free of charge and it only took them 10 min to come if we called them in the middle of the day. Highly recomended.

The hotel is situated slightly up in the hillside, about 500 meters from the center of Engelberg. Most or all of the rooms have a view over the town and same goes for the restaurant, and the view is at most time very beautiful. We had lunch and a dinner in the restaurant and both meals were exceptionally good and the service was relaxed and friendly. I am sure, that once the renovation is fully over, this hotel will be one of the best hotels in Engelberg

We stayed with 5 children in this hotel in 2 rooms. It has a very good view and clean. There was no iron, no room services after 10pm and no fan ( needed specially during summer as there is no air conditioning) It’s good for one or 2 days only. Bathroom was acceptable.

I have stayed here for 2 Nights ! Upon Check in , there was no one at the reception !! However there were keys left with message at the front desk. It took me a while to find a room as there were no arrow or signs to locate rooms. Small but decent and clean rooms. Breakfast served was good and sufficient. Although it takes 1 KM walking distance uphill from Railway Station which is not convenient with luggages. Good for those who bring their own vehicle, else avoid if you are travelling with train or Swiss Pass.

Engelberg is a very popular destination for visitors from home and abroad. There are people who have been returning frequently for 5 to 25 years, and the town council has a system to honour these loyal tourists. The beautiful and peaceful surroundings and the proximity to Mount Titlis are two of the reasons for the attraction. In this heavenly location the Hotel-Restaurant Banklialp is one of the gems. But sadly we found that appearances may be deceptive, or everyone is not equally fortunate. On our late arrival after a long, tiring day we were allotted a room which had several defects and shortcomings. Our Tour Director and Coach Driver along with a single lady guest from our group were accommodated in another hotel due to a shortage of rooms ( in addition to our large group another one had also arrived at about the same time ), but some of our group members were sent to sub-standard rooms. I was reminded of an episode in the novel "Hotel" by Arthur Hailey in which an elderly, non-complaining and adjusting type of guest was given one of the worst rooms, known among the staff as the 'Ha-ha' room. He was later shifted to a better room, and the same treatment was meted out to us --- the next day. We had to spend a rather uncomfortable night with little sleep; the night staff were not very helpful or empathetic to our plight. The room allotted the next day was better than the previous one, but still not at par with the ones in which the other members of our group could stay. Breakfast was served in a quaint dining room. It was standard continental fare, adequate and of good quality. Dinner was served in the same place, but for our group was arranged from an Indian restaurant in Zurich.

We drove to this place from Montreux and did not use the car during our 2 night stay here as one can walk to any place in less than 15 minutes. The view from the room was awesome especially at night. We only had breakfast in the hotel. Cheese omelet was too good.

Our room was well appointed with a balcony which overlooked the mountains and river. A good selection of cereal, fruits, bread, ham and cheeses for breakfast with good coffee. The evening meal was also good value for Switzerland. The staff were friendly and helpful including lending us a charger as we didn’t have an appropriate one with us
