When you look at the website for Hotel Bernina, it is hard not to be impressed by the artistic photos. The rooms, furnishings and decor look like it is out of a magazine. I am pleased to say that it lives up to these expectations and more. I have had the pleasure to stay here twice in the last month (6 nights total). And as someone who has stayed in quite a few hotels in Geneva- this is by far my new favourite. The hotel is situated opposite the Geneva train station. This is very convenient if taking the train (6 minutes) from the airport. This location means there are plenty of shops, restaurants and supermarkets within a few minutes walk. The lake is also only a 5-minute stroll away. The first impression of this hotel was very pleasing. This started with the welcome from the reception staff who seemed to take pride in their job and providing exceptional customer service. This continued throughout the duration of my stay, always with a smile and greeting and offering help. The communal area is also a lovely space with a free tea/coffee machine for use and beers in the fridge. There are papers and magazines and comfy chairs to watch the world go by. There are two lifts, one which although functions, may be more for aesthetics as it is glass but would not fit more than 1 person, but the other is larger. I stayed on the 2nd floor and on the 6th floor in Standard King Rooms. The rooms are beautifully decorated and the fixtures and fittings are to a high standard and all very clean. It is obvious the whole hotel has been recently renovated. The bed was very comfortable with a range of 4 pillows. My rooms had a capsule tea/coffee maker, and a mini-fridge with complimentary beer, water and Lindt Choc. Just to comment on some of the specs of the room, the mini-fridge is on the wall, and could be mistaken for a mirror or piece of art. The lock on the door, when engaged acts as your do not disturb. There are LED sensors under the bed which illuminate the floor when you get up in the night. The room has its own AC but can tell if you have the window open. The window has electric shutters so you can completely darken the room. There is also a comfy desk and chair if you choose to do work. The TV was huge and had a range of international channels including the standard British terrestrial. I could go on.... The room size is conservative, however is good for Geneva standards. The bathroom was very well appointed, with a good powerful shower- but could do with a hook to hang up a towel after use. I would say this hotel is great for short stays and if you are happy to live out of your suitcase as there is limited hanging space or shelves. The wifi was good, signal not always a perfect 5 bar, but this did not seem to affect the speed. My stays did not include breakfast, but it was offered as an extra either in the breakfast room or delivered to your room. There was also room service offered and this was facilitated by Les Brasseurs restaurant which is beside the hotel. Overall- the quality and decor of the hotel, the comfort of the room, the amenities offered and the service by the staff makes it deserving of a 5-star review. I will without a doubt plan to stay here again and indeed actually look forward to doing so!…
We stayed here for 1 night before flying home the following day. The hotel has recently undergone a full refurbishment and it has certainly proven it's worth. The hotel is conveniently situated near the train station and minutes from the lake and restaurants & bars. Our room was very clean and conmfortable. The staff were very friendly, accomodating of our every request and highly knowledgeable of all aspects of the city.
