Positive aspects first: The staff at Manotel Hotel Royal was very friendly and upbeat. However, all in all definitely not worth four stars superior! - The room was very cold, the temperature was hard to adjust. - The room is facing the main street and has very old windows, thus very noisy. - Dinner was "fully booked". (I acknowledge that this was due to COVID measures. However, I did reserve when I made my room booking, yet there was no vacancy.) - I ate at the Bar which had not a single vegetarian option on the menu. I did however get a vegetarian option after asking for it - they provided one option, a risotto - which was good. The bartender was very friendly, cool lad! - There was neither slippers nor a bathrobe in the room. They wanted to charge an outragous amount of CHF 35.- for a bathrobe (rental!); this is supposed to a be a four star superior establishment... - Mediocre breakfast in a very gloomy breakfast room. - There was no one at the reception when I wanted to check out for at least 15 minutes. - Generally, the room floors and rooms are rather outdated, a bit dark and gloomy. If this is supposed to be the answer to the currently difficult situation within the hospitality industry, I really am truly saddened. Seriously, who charges CHF 35.- for a bathrobe - I could just buy one for that amount...…
We decided to book a two-night stay over the Easter weekend (Friday to Sunday) after reading very good reviews regarding the hotel. As we have an electric car one of the deciding factors whether to choose this hotel or not was a possibility to charge it on site, so before booking we called the hotel and asked if it would be possible to plug our car in. The person on the phone confirmed that, although they don't have a dedicated charger, we can plug it in the regular socket and it won't be a problem. Additionally (having in mind that it's an Easter weekend), we also contacted the hotel on Tuesday before our trip to ask if we have to book the hotel restaurant in advance but were told that there's no need and we can do it upon arrival. So after a long travel we finally arrived to the hotel and were told by the receptionist that charging our car is impossible and the hotel restaurant is fully booked on both nights of our stay. With all the other restaurants closed due to corona, we weren't given any alternative option. Only after settling in the room (which was tidy but the wardrobe smelled of stale sweat which we reported) and pressing the reception further, we were advised that we can have dinner in their sister hotel nearby and they finally booked a table for us. Later in the evening we realised that there was a room service available when we saw the hotel personnel bringing trays of food to other rooms (there was no information or menus in our room and reception didn't mention it either). Regarding breakfast the next day, there was a standard cold buffet (which is fine but a bit steep for what was offered), however, again there was no information on the tables that there was a possibility to order some scrambled eggs/bacon, etc. until we saw it on a couple of other guests' plates. After the breakfast we took our car out and went on a day trip, and when we came back we were told that now also the car park is full so we have to park somewhere else. Luckily we managed to find a much cheaper parking with a free charger 200m away from the hotel but none of the staff mentioned/suggested it to us beforehand (the hotel parking is 45 chf per night so pretty expensive and if we didn't pay attention they would have charged us for both nights even though there was no space for us on the second night). Overall, we are very disappointed with the way our stay was handled and felt that the staff was disorganised and didn't really care - there was no solutions provided unless we complained or insisted on another option and when we politely explained the issues, the receptionist didn't even bother to apologise just brushed it under the carpet . The hotel had some Easter deal going on (which our booking wasn't part of) and probably ended up being fully booked with nobody actually thinking how to accommodate all the guests including the restaurant or parking (we couldn't reserve it in advance either). If a hotel cannot organise themselves during the pandemic they should not be operating or should limit the number of rooms available.…
As a family, We were totally dissatisfied with our stay in easter. Very very old room, coffee machine was not working, very mediocre breakfast, a bit dusty room and on top of that we could not have our dinner in the hotel as it was fully booked and no one told us to do pre-booking one week before. Thats why we walked to another hotel of the same chain which was equally horrible. I don’t recommend this hotel to anyone, totally waste of money.
I would like to try to give some improvement suggestions to the hotel management. The Hotel doesn't matter that it was renovated is visible old, rooms looks nice, but the bathrooms belongs to different ages, as well the public areas.During my whole stay I could not rest from the sound of the constant passing trains, because how it looks like the windows was not changed since the hotel exist. For a hotel situated almost on the train station should be clear that they need soundproof windows. Reception try to be nice but still couldn't make me some good impression, because first at all I try to reserve straight away by them throw the phone but how the receptionist told me she can't give answers on my question for the room rate and I need to write an email. (Spontan visit calling from the car) The biggest disappointment was the breakfast buffet and the service, the one lady what was there was let it alone with somebody totally new so she was absolutely uncapble to take care for anything. About the food on the breakfast buffet I can just say go and buy you something from Coop or Lidl it will taste better, don't even try to drink the coffee from the buffet, believe me :( on my opinion breakfast buffet like that cannot be served in hotel pretending for four stars. Don't get me wrong hotel is not dirty or something like that. But me personally I stay disappointed and regret for choosing to stay at Royal Manotel Geneva…
Nice hotel. Based on reviews here we asked for a 'quite' room which is located in the middle. So no street noise n not on side of traintrack. But even here, on second floor you feel/hear the trains. Sounds like distant thunder n did not keep us awake. Not much natural daylight due to location Separate toilet very small, bathroom nice. Beds incredibly comfortable, even the pullout sofa in the triple executive room We did opt for the parking because not many parking spots on the main streets in Genève. Close to the lake. Grocery store next door so no need to pay that much for the hotels breakfast. Front desk very friendly. Elevator is tiny, luggage cart will fit if you're able to lift it sideways with all luggage on it. Plus 1 person. Not convenient.
