Detailed Reviews
The hotel is in an excellent location directly across the street from the train station, next to the airport bus and tram depots too. It is only a 10 minute walk into the start of the old town and a few minutes more to the water bridges. It is newly renovated in 2019 in a style to be very comfortable with a soft palette and modern room and bathroom amenities, and the rooms are extremely spacious with nice down comforters and bed benches. The staff are very friendly and great with restaurant and activity recommendations. You are in for a great night sleep and a convenient location.

+1
We had a two day stay at this hotel on the way to Paris.
This is a charming hotel with a historic facade but modern and renovated interior.
We had the Queen room and whilst only 20 sq mtrs
felt very spacious.
Location is prefect for those with luggage and arriving by train as the station is across the road.
We had a lovely view of the station and no noise could be heard with the windows closed. We often opened the windows to soak up the atmosphere of the trams and buskers and the hustle and bustle of the station.
The old town is not far away and easily walkable but the hotel provides free public transport cards which makes it even easier to visit the city and surrounds. Some lovely old buildings and a marketplace to visit.
We did not have breakfast at this hotel but there is a large supermarket next door where drinks, food, bakery items can be purchased.
The bar/ restaurant downstairs has inside and outside seating with the outside area great for watching people and the station happenings.
If we return this would be our hotel of choice.
Switzerland is a very expensive country so expect to pay a lot more for drink and food than you do at home.
A block away is Markthalle an upmarket food court with cuisines from all over the world. We ate here both nights as the food was so good.

i would rate the stay 20/10. I normally use booking.com but increasinly try to book directly with the hotel, which i did in this case. under the able leadership of Sebastian at the front desk, we (1 adut and 3 boys) were upgraded to a junior suit and, best of all, were able to store our bikes on the luggae room. both dinner and breakfast were excellent.

We stayed December 15 to 18 and booked December 22-January 5 the second part of our trip. The first stay our internet was working but now during our second part of trip with another room our internet doesn’t work well and we need it for my husband’s business. We informed the receptionists, which is very nice, several times but nothing happen. Cleaning room is lacking. Bed linen was dirty but wouldn’t exchanged until I had to ask. They offer coffee in each room but when we came back in the late afternoon the room was made but the dirty coffee cups plus glasses was still on the desk. This was happen 4 times and we informed the reception desk. We got some fruit for Christmas from the hotel and after awhile one of it was rotten. They left it for days! The floor wasn’t very clean either. They need to check with the cleaning staff from time to time especially when a customer complained about it.
We stayed for many years at Hotel Spalentor and we never had any issues with cleanness of room and any dishes like glasses and coffee cups. We couldn’t book it because they were closed between Christmas and New Year.
It was very convenient for us going to the train station but not happy with room staff. They need improvement in this manner. That’s why I only give 2 to 3 stars.

We had a one-night stay with two rooms. The car park for the hotel is reached via the public underground car park before you arrive at the hotel - enter this and follow the signs to hotel parking. You can then take a lift straight to the hotel reception. The staff were very friendly and helpful. Unfortunately we had to change both rooms as there was quite a strong smell - sewage? We noticed later that a couple of other guests had also mentioned this. The staff in reception were happy to rearrange our rooms and they sorted this out very quickly and without fuss. The new rooms were fine! Beds were comfortable and the rooms were well equipped. Unfortunately we didn’t have the pass required in Switzerland to allow us to eat inside (this is needed as well as having the Covid travel
Passport) so we had dinner on the outside terrace of the hotel restaurant. This was okay, not ideal, as it was on the busy main road outside, but the service was quick and the food was good.

The bed was probably the best I've slept on in years of travel. It's great location to main train station as well as trams into Old Town make it a perfect stop. What made it five stars was the front desk team. Extremely helpful as my train itinerary was different than posted and they provided excellent support to navigate a new routing.

We've stayed in this hotel a couple of times now and cannot fault it. Our room both times has been lovely and comfortable. The staff are friendly and helpful.
It is in an excellent location for arriving by bus from the airport and travelling by train as it is across from the main train station (but very quiet, no train or traffic noise).
Also only a short walk into the old town.
Will definitely stay again if in Basel.

Very comfortable hotel conveniently located to central train station and easy walking to town center and many sights. We chose it for 3 nights because our Rhine River boat cruise meets here for embarking. Hotel is very clean, with updated bathroom facilities, great bed and pillow options. Staff, including the housekeeper speak English well and were very responsive to our minor requests, such as replacement of the missing shower soap dispenser. Our room opening onto central courtyard shared with other buildings was sufficiently quiet. A good and comfortable choice in this area.

Business-like city hotel, just a few steps from the station with easy access to trams and buses making visiting the sights easy. Clean and quiet, with air-conditioning and double-glazing. We skipped the breakfast buffet, which was quite expensive and looked less generous than the ones we had enjoyed in other, less urban, places. Our angled room with a sitting area was great for relaxing but we missed the view of the busy square that we had enjoyed on other visits. Another time we would ask for the same room category but in the center of the building.

For many years we have been staying in this uncomplicated and inexpensive hotel during the time of Basel tattoos. Easy to reach by car, park in underground garage, quick check-in, room occupancy and off by tram to the city.
The staff is very friendly from A to Z, the quality of the food top, the breakfast buffet for a city hotel sensational.
We had a deluxe room out to the quiet courtyard. The room was rather gloomy, but the location was quiet and the air conditioning top.
The room didn't smell really fresh this time. There was a star deduction for that.
We will be back.

Dear Journey523650,
We have many different types of room. We have rooms with a queen size bed and rooms that are 2 single beds (Twin). The only rooms that are allowed to accomodate 4 people are our Suites. In these rooms there is either a Queen or King size bed and a double sofa bed, with a proper mattasse. More detailed information can be found on our website.
Best regards
Fraser Currie, Front Office Manager
Hi,
They have for additional costs an offer for washing and ironing.
best regards,
Cristian
The room I stayed in was spacious. Definitely space for a cot. There was a small round table and two upholstered chairs in the room (but no couch), in addition to the desk/chair and the coffee station with TV.
Laundry is available, but not in the room (if that’s what you meant). They collect and return to your room at extra cost.
Staff was friendly and helpful.
There was a bath/shower in the room, so we did our own laundry in the room when needed.
The hotel has two parts/sections. I stayed in the front section (overlooking the tram station square), but some colleagues stayed in the other building, which sounded less spacious.
Hi, It depends how you book. We were room only so would have to have paid extra but there are dozens of fabulous little places to eat nearby...we usually popped over to the train station!
yes, the buses start running about 5am so should be fine, check with the hotel as they have all the timetables
