This hotel was magnificent. We were booked in by a company called Rad & Reisen who arrange bike tours. The hotel is across the road from the Basel SBB railway station and a short walk to the Rhine river. There were restaurants close by and also at the hotel. Although it displays only as a three star we thought it...

I stayed at this hotel for a night on May 2014. The staff was really helpful and courteous. The room was clean and exceptional. I needed to fly to the UK for a day and the staff had no issues keeping my luggage there until i got back even though i checked out of the hotel. I would love to...

We stayed here for one night prior to catching a flight. Very good location right beside the train station in the centre of town. Very pleasant welcome. We had booked one of the top rooms which was not overly big but for one night, acceptable. I would have to say that I don't particularly wish to have an exercise bike...

We arrived in the midst of preparations for the 150th anniversary of the hotel. Nevertheless check in was immediate and we were allocated room 515, the furthest room away from the function. After returning from dinner and gaining entry by flashing our wristbands at the security guard we slept peacefully. By the time we came down for breakfast there was...

We booked this hotel for one night, simply as a place to rest our heads after a dinner we had booked in Basel, and I must say, we were pleasantly surprised. Our room was 501, which was a corner room and very spacious, indeed. All hardwood floors with a lovely sloping ceiling. Our only gripe was the two big windows...

We were in a room with fitness amenities that included an exercise/stretching bar and a stationary bike. It would have been great if I had been sitting in meetings all day, but not necessary for a tourist walking miles each day. Appreciated the access to bottled water and soft drinks on each floor. Clean, spacious room. Our room rate did...

The hotel is very well located as you have to, practicaly, cross the street from the train station to reach it. The room is confortable and silent. Good shower and new bathroom. Staff helpful. Recommended.

This hotel is convenient to the train station and easy walking distance to town, river and the trams. The hotel was recently renovated so the rooms have new floors (no carpets) and bathrooms. There is a lovely breakfast in the morning. The staff is helpful -- however doesn't have a long list of restaurants to recommend. The street is noisy...

I was there for the Carnival (Fasnacht), that was an unforgettable experience. The hotel is located next to the railway station and is very easy to access. The staff was helpful and the breakfast was good. I appreciate that on first day of the Carnival (Morgenstreich) they offered breakfast at 2:30 a.m. and also extended the regular breakfast hours to...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Experience up-to-the-minute hotel facilities in a historic atmosphere In 1864, the Hotel Schweizerhof Basel was the first hotel to open at the Basel SBB railway station. In 1896, the hotel was sold and has remained in the ownership of the same family for four generations. It underwent a total renovation in 2006 and 2009. The result is a unique, harmonious symbiosis of the historic and modern in a perfect location. Enjoy spacious, bright and tall rooms, wide staircases and artistically forged banisters, surrounded by pleasantly warm colours. Guests who value a cordial, dedicated and individual service in a modern setting with traditional roots will find the Hotel Schweizerhof Basel the perfect choice. ... more   less
