My friend and I spent a week at this quirky Castle. I was excited to stay in a 15th Century Castle. Perched on a hilltop which is a bit of a hike from the parking lot, it offers beautiful views of the Umbrian country side. There is no signage as to how to enter the hotel or where the reception desk is. Be prepared to haul your own luggage up a set of stone stairs and across a large flagstone terrace. There is no bellman or cart. Our room was clean and the beds were comfortable. There was a large armoire with 4 wire hangers and no dresser. As a result we weren’t able to actually unpack. The bathroom had a wall mounted hairdryer, which was mounted absurdly low on the wall, necessitating stooping over to dry your hair. The downstairs restaurant was lovely and we ate several excellent meals there. The gnocchi with Gorgonzola sauce and walnuts was very memorable. Breakfast, which never varied other than for the saltiness of the ubiquitous scrambled eggs, was fine. It was boring and the bacon was virtually raw, but it was nourishing and the coffee was great. We were there in October and it was a little too cool for the pool, but I imagine it would feel great on a hot summer day. This hotel was a comfortable home base for exploring Umbria by car. It could stand to add some niceties to its rooms like hangers, a trash can, a shower with consistent hot water and a hairdryer not designed people under 4’11, but all in all we enjoyed our stay. Just remember, it is a castle not a palace.

We stayed at this wonderful hotel for 10 days in October. This is a beautiful castle in the Umbrian countryside. The staff and facilities were terrific. Although the hotel is about 15 minutes from Gubbio, it is a terrific place to stay as we explored Umbria. The food was wonderful. Both the breakfast buffet and dinner items were tasty and prepared well. At times dishes were not served hot. The wait staff was helpful and worked very hard, even though some days they appeared understaffed.

Perched high up in the hills this hotel has so much to offer. There is plenty of space with a well cared for swimming pool and a large comfortable lounge along with outside seated areas. All bedrooms are within the castle and have the characteristic high ceilings. Whilst the rooms are large they do lack somewhat storage and sitting areas. (Rather than an extra bed in the room perhaps a coffee table and two comfortable chairs by the window in order to appreciate the superb views would be welcome). Half board seems to be the norm but there is also the opportunity to select from the A La Carte menu for half the stated price, this gives greater choice. The food served is on the whole typically Italian and there is a reasonably priced wine list. A complimentary glass of Prosecco before dinner is a nice touch. Whilst staying there were a large number of both English and American guests and it would help if there was someone on duty with a better grasp of the English language than we had of Italian. On the whole staff were friendly and helpful but key areas such as the bar and reception were not always manned which is somewhat unusual. Some suggestions:- - Formatted sheets with places to visit, a brief overview and its distance from the hotel might be useful, many guests arrive with a car due to its position. - Perhaps a few organised trips for those who have no car or would be happy to leave the car behind - Evening set menus available some time prior to dinner so guests can decide whether they wish to eat from that or go onto the A La Carte menu.

I had the pleasure of staying at the Castello di Baccaresca with my fiancée when we were looking for a venue for our wedding. The rooms were both comfortable and spacious and the food of the hotel’s restaurant was outstanding, particularly the truffle-based dishes. The director of the hotel was incredibly helpful and gave us a tour of all the rooms and outdoors spaces we could have for our wedding reception in. It’s perfect for weddings as there are many rooms that guests can stay in. Moreover, the surroundings are beautiful, covered with forests and close to the medieval town of Gubbio. I wholeheartedly recommend staying there, and thank the director and staff for being so attentive to us and for making our stay so enjoyable.

We stayed here for 5 nights half board and had a fantastic time. The food is great and plentiful, 4 course meals at night and a huge buffet style in the morning. Service sometimes a little slow in the evening, but location lovely so we didn't mind. Also had a free wine tasting in our desk which was good fun and got the wine thrown in later as well. Castle is in the country so you do need a hire car.
