Excellent place to stay at. The ambiance is great, the accommodation we had was in a large room (about 16X20 ft or more); the building is all stone and large wood beams. The whole region, as you drive up the hill is breathtaking. The views from the rooms are panoramic and the facilities extremely clean. We enjoyed the castle very...

I want to start by apologising to the truly magnificent Castello di Petrata for our belated review from September 2015. After spending a long weekend at the end of 2014 visiting many possible wedding venues across Umbria we found Petrata, and are unbelievably grateful/thankful that we did as no other venue came close for us. As soon as you arrive...

This is a beautiful hotel situated in the country side of Umbria near the town of Assisi. 14 members of our group spent 5 nights there starting on September 26, 2015. The hotel and grounds are immaculate with spectacular views of the Umbria countryside. The breakfast, starting at 7:30am was excellent with a variety of foods. ie. Meats, cheeses, eggs,...

This is a stunning small hotel in the most perfect location. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful and most spoke excellent English, The rooms are charming, spotlessly clean; mine on the top floor at the front had amazing views over Assisi. The meals are excellent and the atmosphere dining outside is fantastic. The only downside is the lack of...

The view from the place is a Wide Spectacular Italian Countryside panorama from which you can spot the Assisi...

The property is gorgeous. The pool refreshing. Dinner delicious. Unfortunately without air conditioning in the sweltering heat of July we had an awful night here. We asked for a fan, which simply moved the hot air around. The bed wasn't comfortable, which didn't help. Not sleeping well and then facing a long drive, set us up for a challenge the...

Where should we start? We live in New York, but come from the the south of Italy and from Wisconsin. We rented out the Castello di Petrata for the weekend and friends and family from all places came to meet in the hills near Assisi. It didn't matter where anyone came from, the Castello was astonishing to everyone. No picture...

We had a wonderful room that faced out to the hills, and was on the second floor. Very clean rooms and bathrooms (be warned there is no shower but a beautiful sunken tub with a shower attachment). The grounds are extremely well kept, with plenty of areas to explore or take walks, or consume a bottle of wine. Staff was...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Far from it all, let yourself be carried away by the silence, colours and scents of the soft Umbrian hills, where what counts is the sunset, the perfume of the earth and flowers. A true oasis of peace where Aldo and Giuseppina's family and their staff welcome guests with courtesy and kindness into the warmth of a private residence, for a holiday in harmony with art and nature. Petrata Castle, an ancient 14th century fortress and its annexed chapel, nestles in the midst of gentle hills on a quiet and sunny plain, 600 metres above sea level and only 6 km from Assisi. Its position of dominance in the surrounding countryside, allows it an wide panoramic view of Assisi and the Umbrian valley. ... more   less
