I honeymooned here in September 2012 and could not have been happier. The setting is delightful, the views are out of this world and I found the villa to be perfectly matched to its surroundings in terms of the rustic homely feeling it gives. The kitchen was perfectly equipped for our needs. There is also a BBQ available for use in the garden. Would highly recommend to couples and families alike. Would not recommend if you are looking for a lively holiday, there is no 'nightlife'. The cafe bars in town remain open at night, but there is no entertainment, apart from, on occasion, a lady standing in the corner of the main town square playing the fiddle. The villa is remote, so you would need to rent a car. Could only choose a time of travel within the last year, but it was actually September 2012 that we traveled.

All previous reviews couldn't prepare us for the beauty of the location...we got lost on the last leg and yes its up a long bumpy track! Disappointments & grumbles:- the disappointment lay in the presentation of the accommodation; it is an ancient converted barn so had so much potential; all let down by a dirty and ill-equipped kitchen. Very dirty kitchen, dirty cutlery and glasses, broken plastic handled cutlery, small very dirty grill oven, dirty toaster, filthy oven gloves...no drying up cloths or basics provided. The amazing beams were covered in dust; the seating uncomfortable and cushions smelly. What a let down! The shower needed a jolly good clean. Previous occupiers belongings including 'feminine stuff!' found in the chest of drawers. The owner Paulo didnt want a deposit but asked for 65 euros for a local tax - all very awkward; on booking Thomson had informed us that as we were renting a villa we would not pay tax; and no reference to this in the brochure! We complained and the rep came the following day; Thomson immediately reimbursed the money - well done Thomson!!! Paulo also replaced the filthy grill/oven with a new one which we saw for sale in the local Pam supermarket for 17 euros!! On day 7 we found clean linen delivered but had no maid service and no clean towels....these arrived after the kind intervention of an american who lived on the complex!! Non villa related hassle - long wait to collect hire car and the car hire office did not open until 8 am on day of departure. Shame to post negatives as with a little investment this would be idyllic (another villa on the complex rented by some Americans we befriended was AMAZING and with some investment this could easily be as good) Very hot and the fans were inadequate. Take lots of Autan for bites! We bought plug in's but the odd sockets were sideways on so all the liquid dripped out!!! Positives; An amazing view of San G, vineyards and olive groves from the terrace....pristine bedding - phew! fab pool (2 broken sunbeds); pleasantly decorated! Car hire office so close to arrivals that you don't need to bother with the bus. San Giminano isn't walking distance unless you are really intrepid...but delightful but park early to avoid queues. There isn't a bakery of cafe in walking distance. We were only a 40 minute drive from Florence so visited twice; Siena a short drive and a delightful city. Do try Lucca and Volterra too...careful driving needed as the locals are crazy! If you don't mind 'student let' type kitchen cleanliness and equipment then don't hold back - if you do shop around!

We were more than a little surprised at the pleasure that awaited us when we arrived at Casa Claudia. The pleasantly decorated, clean and comfortable villa lends itself perfectly to a relaxing holiday. Only a few minutes drive from the medieval town of San Gimignano which has local shops, supermarket, bars and restaurants as well as being steeped in history. The view from the terrace can only be described as magnificent and we spent several evenings sat there with local red wine watching the fire flies light up the olive grove beneath. We didn't realise until we arrived what great countryside there was to explore and our flip flops were not suitable - however we have already booked for 2009 and will be taking sturdy footwear to investigate further. It is a lovely hours drive to the beach at Cecina which is lined with jasmin trees, and not too far from Sienna although Florence would be a struggle to do justice in a day trip. It's a perfect base for exploring Tuscany and would highly recommend it. We were the sole users of the pool and spent some fun time rescuing the kamikazi baby lizards that kept flinging themselves into the pool to cool down. We have never booked the same place twice, ever, yet we were compelled to return here.
