#30 of 134 Speciality lodging in San Gimignano
About 1km from the medieval town of San Gimignano, surrounded by centuries-old olive trees and vineyards cultivated with Vernaccia, lays the Agritourism of the Abbey of Monte Oliveto, built in 1340 by the Olivetan monks. Abbazia Monte Oliveto's farm, today property of the the Zonin family, offers 7 comfortable apartments, harmoniously furnished in typical Tuscan country style, dominated by the legendary towers of San Gimignano and immersed in the surrounding greenery of the countryside. Each apartment has every possible comfort, including heating, satellite television and telephone. The apartments are all different so there is something to suit everyone, and some rooms have bathrooms which are specially equipped for the disabled. Our guests have access to a large car park, the garden, the swimming pool and our store selling typical farm produce such as top-quality wine and olive oil.

We owe a great deal of gratitude to this wonderful place for helping make the final leg of our Tuscany trip so perfect. The venue is beautiful, the views breathtaking and the wine & olive oil was lovely (and considerably better priced than other upmarket shops in the town). The bed was super comfy and the apartment had everything we would have needed for a longer stay. The walk into town was also very easy and enjoyable. The biggest thank you has to go to Giacomo, who helped me arrange my marriage proposal to my now fiance within the grounds. He did a fantastic job and took the most beautiful pictures for us. We will remember this place forever! My only very very very slight negative is that, despite us having 3 days of beautiful sunshine throughout our whole stay, the pool was like an ice bath so was barely useable! If it was just slightly heated, it would've made a world of difference to us!

I've always wanted to stay on a vineyard but we didn't want to hire a car on this trip so we needed somewhere within walking distance of a town, an acceptable journey price from the airport via private transfer. It took a while to research and find the perfect place to stay but in September we spent 6 wonderful nights at Fattoria Abbazia Monte Oliveto. Our apartment looking out towards the hilly town of San Gimignano was spacious, clean and well equipped with everything you could need. The AC worked well in the bedroom but I can imagine in the full heat of the summer the lounge could become rather uncomfortable. The grounds are well kept and the pool is delightful with the incredible views, the exception; the mosquitoes so make sure you are well prepared. Marianna was very helpful and communication up to and during our stay was very good. The vineyard tour was a lovely evening with generous tastings and an abundance of fresh antipasti, such amazing value vs other vineyards in the area. The location is perfect and the walk up hill to San Gimignano possibly didn't do my growing pasta belly any harm. Would 100% stay again and recommend in a heartbeat!

We stayed here for two nights on our honeymoon. The views in the gardens are stunning of the rolling hills of Tuscany and the area was extremely quiet and peaceful (except the sound of harvesting, but this was quite relaxing!). The apartments are quite basic, with only a small fridge so you'll have to top up regularly with food. There is a coop supermarket about 15 minutes up the hill to San Gimignano, best if you have a car! The pool is wonderful, although it would be nicer if there were no olive trees in the way of the infinity pool view! Beware of mosquitos - we had no air con in our room (the 2 bedroom apartment) and I got really badly bitten. You have to pay if you want any fresh towels and cleaning of the rooms which is a bit odd on longer stays. The wine from the shop is delicious, definitely worth having a nice early evening glass of wine outside on the grass terrace. If I stayed again I would like a room next to the patio, or the room with the only balcony area to really enjoy the outdoor space. Thanks for having us!

We arrived around 6pm after reception had closed, had informed them this would be the case and they left a notice for us by the door telling us where to find the keys, which was simple enough. We had the top floor roadside apartment which had a spacious living/kitchenette area, a large airy bedroom and decent sized bathroom. The Kitchenette is equipped with electric hobs a microwave and loads of pots/pans utensils, adequate enough to prepare simplish evening meals (did so twice out of the 4 nights we were there). Coffee was provided free, it did take a long time for the old fashioned percolator to produce any coffee on the hob though! The views from our apartment were fabulous, as indeed they were from the large grassy terrace out back, real picture postcard stuff. The terrace is a great place to chill with a wine/Italian craft beer after a day’s exploring! There were a few others staying there as well, but there is enough space to make you feel like you had the place to yourself. The walk to San Gimi is a pleasant 10-15mins along the road, just take a bit of care when walking back after dark as the path is a bit rough and ready, and not well lit, but it’s still safe enough! Fattoria Abbazia Monte Oliveto met all our expectations and exceeded some. Tip : If you have a roadside (front) apartment EAR PLUGS will be handy!

I can’t recommend this place enough. We had a huge apartment with a garden and terrace overlooking the wonderful Tuscan landscape. It is super comfortable and has everything you need. You can comfortably reach San Gimignano on foot in 10’. I will definitely be back one day in summer to enjoy the swimming pool!
