We stayed a couple of nights here on our way back to England - The hotel is about a 1km away from the old city, so leisurely 10 minutes walk, which was ideal as it means you are away from the day trippers to San Gimignano. Breakfast was continental but ample, and the restaurant (in the basement) is generally not that crowded if having it late (closes at 10am or so) Our room was large, with equally spacious wardrobe and a medium sized toilet/shower, and a private balcony overlooking the back of the property - The cleaning staff were friendly in general and responsive and the hotel was exceptionally clean We will definitely consider staying here again There are a few points to consider though: Parking is notoriously difficult around, although if you do find one it tends to be free (no parking meters), however if you are willing to walk a bit much further (Assuming no heavy luggage) then there are some streets further down the road where there are ample spaces (or use the general car park (paid) near the walls of the city) -We found having to hand in the AC remote control on check out (received on check in) a little bit strange, and no one could explain the rationale for that -There are safety deposit boxes in the rooms, however one would need to request the key from reception - it would make more sense to be handed the key on check in, and keys handed back on checkout, as we recognise the design is old so no digital key - Restaurant is closed on Mondays and prices are not competitive and menu choice a little limited…
It was a small little hotel a short walk to the town, but the owners were charming and the Nono (grandpa) who sat in the lobby all day and greeted guests with a big smile and a Buon Guorno was just so sweet. Our room faced the road and we kept our doors open at night, so were greeted to the sounds of animals (a donkey even) and locals chatting in the street as we woke in the morning. It was wonderful!
We were there during a weekend in San Gimignano and this restaurant was very close to the place we were staying in. Food was good but actually I was expecting a bit more since the reviews were on average very good. The service was great but quality of food compared to the price could be better.
We were only here for one night, as part of a road trip. This is a small family owned hotel, but also stylish, well decorated very clean and very friendly. Our room was lovely, with a large, tiled balcony, at the front of the hotel with views of distant hills. The scent of jasmine wafted into the room from the gardens outside. Breakfast was very good (on a terrace at the back of the hotel) and we had a very good (and very reasonably priced) dinner in the hotel restaurant, with some delicious local wine. There is parking outside the hotel, but it is very busy and pot luck if you find a space (we were lucky). Its a 10-minute walk into the centre. We'd like to stay for longer next time!
Found this gem thanks to 'Il Colombaio' family.. we were desperately looking for a room during an Italian 'Bank Holiday' weekend, at first it seemed a last minute choice... but we found an amazing place run by great people! First of all the location: 5 MINS from San Gimignano city centre... The hotel: is fresh and clean, our room was nice and big. Free Parking space available!! Last but not least: GLUTEN FREE FRIENDLY !!! Thank you again!!!
