The hotel has a nice view-especially during a clear dayr. The lovely swimming pool would be welcome in Summer. Reception can now handle groups like ours better. Rooms are built in the craziest possible fashion, where it may be like a maize where it is not always easy to find your room-the first night. Rooms are decent sized and bathroom adequate too but quite sterile. Breakfast is quite adequate. The location is not very close to old town- about 4 kms away. Internet is barely ok in the room. Room location and numbering is a big problem for me here- as is reaching the restaurant from the room. Plenty of parking for your vehicle. but convenient only if you have your own transportation which we did have. It has a nice Spa but we never used it.
It felt like this hotel stopped in the middle of a remodel. The outside, pool area, and restaurant are clean and have an updated feel. The rooms themselves, and even the hallways, have a very outdated look. The hallways at night also use motion activated lights that don't come on until you are halfway down the hall so my overall impression is dark and OLD. I had what might be my worst EVER meal in Italy at the restaurant. Maybe the chef was chiusi per feri - like half the town.
I spent most of my Christmas holidays at the Spa of the Relais la Cappuccina. This Spa was an amazing surprise in such a magic place as San Gimignano is. Katty, the person in charge of running the Spa, was friendly and very welcoming. She made us feel at home giving us the right instructions of how to get the best from our stay in the sauna, hammam and the salty swimming pool (which changes colours from blu to red to violet during our hot and bubbling bath). The place is fully equipped with all the amenities you can desire from a spa: towels, slippers, fresh and abundant water, hot infusion. The place is clean and the atmosphere is calm and relaxed. We will go back there again for sure. I highly recommend.
Let me enumerate the ways this hotel 'spa' is a compete failure When we first arrived, the hotel room was freezing. The AC panel was locked on and we had to hammer on it like 20 times to get it to turn off. We asked if the heating could be turned on and were told no. The hotel doesn't turn on heating during the summer. This was September and the room was probably like 67 degrees. My wife needed three blankets to survive. Also when we first arrived, the safe was locked and we couldn't use it. We called reception and they said they would send someone. They never did. We had to walk down to reception and demand someone follow us to our room. On one of the evenings, I tried to take a shower only to realize there was no hot water. Called reception and they said they would look into it. I don't think they actually did anything though. I think they had turned off the hot water to try to save money. With how close this hotel is to San Gimignano, you would think as a benefit they would supply a free shuttle, but no, everything here is going to cost you. Even using the pool requires you pay a spa fee. And there is definitely nothing that I recognized as a Turkish bath. When we tried to use the TV, there were no English channels, no CNN, not even Eurosport. We couldn't even get to most of the changes they did have because of the child protection settings that had been turned on. We asked if they could disable the child protection. They said they would look into it and then never did anything. Not even the bathroom was free of problems. We found mold in the shower. The staff did not seem very concerned. We even provided them with photographs. Are you still thinking of staying here? Have some additional details: They only provide 1 pillow per person There are mosquitoes in the rooms They turn off the lights in the hallways and elevator at night so you have to find your way in the dark The shower stall is super slippery and likely to hurt someone The massages are sub par And the bed is hard as rocks But they view is nice. So there's that.…
Used this place recently as we are in the proccess of buying an Italian Villa in the area and wanted something local. The rooms are basic but are very clean and have air con although not very powerful. Wouldent want to stay for a week here but as we were out all day it suited. Used the restaurant on site and although the food and wine was fine there lacked a choice unless you like filling up on lots of bread starters. Pool area was good for the one day we had off and car parking is large. Final note if you want to eat in the restuarant especially outside book as if it gets busy it can be a little calamatious.
