We visited il Castagnolino recently in March for lunch & met Carmela, who owns the property. She rents out the villas and also conducts cooking class. Her property is small and cosy. We had a beautiful lunch there personally prepared by Carmella. She also showed us the various produce of her farm. Worth mentioning is the saffron she produces ( only 200g per year!!) and also extra virgin olive oil which was so yummy. If you fancy a quiet and scenic farm stay, visit il castagnolino san gimignano!

Perfect location, fantastic view from the terrace. The pool area is really nice and kept very clean. The room is stylish and well decorated. Breakfast is delicious and the food tastes fresh. About 5min drive from San Gimignano. Our bathroom didn't have a proper door, more of a folding one that doesn't give the necessary privacy and can be bothersome. Also, I find the check out at 10am to be rather early. After 10pm (or anyway when dinner is over) is not possible to buy any drink

The owners were very welcoming and had lots of really great suggestions for places to visit in the area! It had everything I expected from an Agriturismo...quaint rooms, fantastic food, relaxation and quiet...and did I say, what a view??? Glorious! Incredible vistas out to San Gimignano!! We booked the dinner here 2 nights ...Carmella prepares an incredible 4 course Tuscan dinner using foods from their garden! We stayed 4 nights and were so sad to go! Hope to go back again one day!

We were fortunate with our timing in Tuscany. A week in October with misty mornings, warm middays and cool evenings. We had Il Castagnolino as our base for the week, and it was a great choice. The views over the rolling countryside are wonderful, and we saw a Supermoon, shooting stars and a triple rainbow (not all at once!). Carmela and Ivan were very hospitable, and breakfasts were copious and delicious. As walkers we fuelled up on these, but still had room for the four course dinners which I have reviewed elsewhere. The olive harvest was just beginning as we arrived, and we were served new season oil fresh from the press. The rooms were fine, if a little dark, which I think is probably characteristic of the Tuscan farmhouse architecture. The downstairs rooms, which included the single rooms were occasionally chilly, but the heating was turned on/up on request. Cleanliness was impeccable. Local walks to the Pieve de Bose (monastery with ceramic studio) were literally on our doorstep, and getting to San G or environs for other walks was very easy. There were home produced products, including saffron and fig jam for sale, and needless to say, cans of olive oil made their way back to the UK. There were showers only, and as it was too late in the season for swimming, no chance of a soak. Wifi was patchy, again in the downstairs rooms, but fine in the public areas and upstairs.
