When walking into the hotel you immediately realise that you're in a special venue. It's a beautifully restored historic building with some amazing gardens. The decor is quite something but I can see why it might be a bit much for some. However, you certainly know you are in Florence and I thought it really added to the experience of...

I am sensitive to design and the decor is intended to wow chinese tourists and first timers of tuscany. For us, it misses and even smacks of disney. Thst being said, the building is historical and impressive and the park is stunning in spring. If hou dont like crowds and buses then stay here or farther from arno. All firenze...

We stayed as a surprise birthday gift to my husband. He had read about the hotel, been told about it by many friends and couldn't believe we were going to start our Italian vacation there. From the moment you walk in, it's absolutely breathtaking. The lobby, the chapel, the bar area....oh my gosh! Stunning. But even beyond that, the staff!...

We stayed for four nights last July. After staying at many luxury hotels in Italy, this hotel still stood out. The grounds are beautiful, the rooms were spacious and the service was impeccable. Great location that was walkable to everything but just far enough away to feel like a retreat. The concierge helped with great recommendations from the best pizza/gelato...

This hotel is by far one of the most beautiful that I have seen in my travels. Everything from the grounds to the rooms are exquisite. Even if you don't stay at the hotel, I highly recommend having a drink to enjoy the beauty of the property. The concierge is also extremely helpful in recommending local eateries that you wouldn't...

This is a great hotel. From the moment you check in to when you leave, your every wish is catered for. After you check in, they actually walk you to your room. Our room was huge, and would have had to have been 600-800 square feet. The bathroom was all marble and also huge. The location is fantastic and very...

I'm not sure what there is to say about this hotel that hasn't already been said. But as far as hotels go, this is one of my favorites. The location is great, the service amazing, the rooms and grounds are lovely, and the restaurants were all wonderful. First off, the service was so great it was almost a joke. My...

This is a difficult review. I love the four seasons chain dearly. However, I feel this hotel has slipped so far that some things need to be said. First the positives. The garden is beautiful, and the Palazzo is stunning. The concierges are outstanding. Credit where credit is due. Maybe because they don't have to count on return guests, or...

Staying in San Marco

Neighbourhood Profile
San Marco
The pleasant atmosphere of this residential area, a stone’s throw away from the Duomo of Florence, surprises everyone. A continuous flow of backpacking students provides the tranquil surroundings for the elderly residents who sit in Piazza San Marco to read the daily newspaper. Home to several universities, including the Academy of Fine Arts, San Marco is one of the most vibrant cultural centers in the city. A bridge connecting the modern cultural activity of Florence to its classic art, represented by the everlasting magnificence of the original David, resonates as a symbol of Florence and of Italy as a whole. Get lost in a Neoclassic world, a journey back in time through historic buildings like Spedale degli Innocenti (Hospital of the Innocents), San Marco church, Basilica della Santissima Annunziata, and natural jewels like the Botanical Gardens.
