This hotel is most certainly not good value for money and I've no idea how it even gained one star. Room was in great need of repair. Hotel is on the second floor of an apartment building and the entrance is in a disgusting state. Even had burn holes in the bed cover. On the plus side, the bed was...

A/C dripping on the floor, hotel noisy like if walls were paper, bathroom not clean (bad smell of moulded) tiny shower like could barely step in and bed covers had burnt spots all over. Wifi didn't work in the room (it was supposed to) butbreakfast was awesome. The landowner is a gem, too.

the hotel's location is good, within walking distance to most attractions. the staff is especially helpful and goes to great lengths to make us feel comfortable. we were given another (bigger) room with an additional bed after the first night because of a leaking air conditioner in the previous room, with no additional charges and delays. The guy also helped...

This hotel is a well located budget option in Florence. Altough the entrance hall is in very bad condition, don't let that put you off, the hotel itself is clean and well kept. The hotel looks somewhat old, but is in good condition. The owner was very nice and helpful on arrival. The rooms are wide and clean, with a...

Good location, about ten min walk from train station. This would prob be around 2 star hotel in England. Rooms look basic because the furniture is dated but but we found the room & bedding clean. Staff are very knowledgeable about the area and the breakfast was a good continental style. You do get what you pay for & perhaps...

We stayed 4 nights and found this hotel to be quite basic overall. It was very shabby, but clean. The room was huge & had an extra single & two pullout beds, so could sleep 5. The bathroom was tiny and only a wet room, toilet, bidet, basin & shower out of wall. So once you use the shower everything...

Hotel San Marco is near the train station, an is in the heart of the tourist places as Duomo, Accademia, etc. Andre, the owner, and the staff are a very friendly. The room was clean and comfortable, internet worked very fast all the time. Breakfast included in the rate is complete and healthy.

This was probably the best hotel on our trip. The location was just awesome! 5 mins. walk to Duomo, 2 mins to the Accademia, 10-15 mins. from the train station. Rooms were clean, staff was nice (although the older gentleman doesn't speak much English). AC and WiFi worked well. We had a great room on the top floor (ask for...

We really loved our stay at San Marco's: the brother and sister, who run the hotel, are really wonderfull people, giving us brilliant inside information, even booking tables at restaurants for us and giving wonderfull advice at any given time. The rooms were simple and clean, the breakfast equally simple, yet perfect, and the hotel provided exactly what we were...

The hotel is on the 3rd floor but there is a small lift to get heavier bags upstairs. The stairwell doesn't make the best impression but we liked the hotel overall. The location is excellent, right in the centre of the main sights. We had a double room with en suite. The room was clean and had air con at...

Staying in San Marco

Neighbourhood Profile
San Marco
The pleasant atmosphere of this residential area, a stone’s throw away from the Duomo of Florence, surprises everyone. A continuous flow of backpacking students provides the tranquil surroundings for the elderly residents who sit in Piazza San Marco to read the daily newspaper. Home to several universities, including the Academy of Fine Arts, San Marco is one of the most vibrant cultural centers in the city. A bridge connecting the modern cultural activity of Florence to its classic art, represented by the everlasting magnificence of the original David, resonates as a symbol of Florence and of Italy as a whole. Get lost in a Neoclassic world, a journey back in time through historic buildings like Spedale degli Innocenti (Hospital of the Innocents), San Marco church, Basilica della Santissima Annunziata, and natural jewels like the Botanical Gardens.

“The top floor is a hike up, so don't forget anything once you come down. If you have a choice, choose a lower floor. No lifts. The staff did take our suitcases upstairs for us which really helped.”
