The hotel is 400m from the duomo, so less than a 10 mins walk, which is great, because you are away from the noise. We requested a room with a terrace, so the view from there of the skyline and the rooftops is exactly what was expected. We were on the 5th floor, so we had a good view. The...

Thank you for commenting. Many hotel in Florence start from a upper floor, this is because the building are originally not made for hotel accommodation purpose. There are also restaurants on upper floors. Our building was built on 1870 (about), and actually is one of the younger in town! Kind Regards, Cristina

The hotel is located within walking distance of most of the major points of interest. The reception greets you with a smile. The room was with high ceiling, beds and bathroom nice and clean, nice complimentary breakfast, free room wifi, best value for money. I will strongly recommend this hotel.

I stayed at this hotel with my wife and it was a great choice. The hotel is nicely located in a quiet neighborhood but is still easily within walking distance of all the sights in Florence. The staff was friendly and the room was clean and comfortable with modern features. The highlights are the look of the hotel which is...

This was my favorite hotel in Italy! First off, the location is great - it's about 10 minutes from the Duoma, so it's slightly out of the busy area and quiet. We reserved a triple room and won the jackpot by getting Room 16, which had a huge, private veranda with amazing views of Florence. The room is spacious and...

We enjoyed our stay here - was only overnight, but the hotel lived up to its name with amazing views in all directions. I enjoyed the hand-made craft from upcycled items that you might throw away. Quirky and beautiful. The communal living area and terrace garden was amazing. We had it to ourselves for around an hour before anyone else...

Ok so this hotel is a 2* and it feels that way. The beds are not the most comfortable and the bathrooms are definitely compact BUT this place is a good budget option. The room was cleaned daily and there was a great terrace view of the Florence sky line. The staff are not the nicest but they are helpful...

Thank you for commenting. Actually we are a 3 stars hotel, though no a luxury one. We definitely are not luxury. We are sorry you didn't find us "the nicest", and we will think on it finding out where we fail to accomplish your expectations. Your report it mean a lot to us, since we consider human relashionships the most...

Baths are old, rooms are small - but this is a great budget option because of the good location, EXCELLENT breakfast and wonderful views. Somewhat surly staff used to dealing with busloads of clueless tourists. One absolutely lovely cleaning lady whose enthusiasm and hard work make up for the other women. Someone has gone to great trouble to create charm...

Thank you for commenting. We have renewed the majority of the bathroom, and we keep on doing it! Sometimes we are a bit overwhelming. But still, our fault: we apologise. Thank you for your appreciation of my art, not only due to my hard work, but due also to the collaboration of the staff all, keeping on the daily work...

Thank you for commenting. WE have a tiny elevator, but it suits for 4 people. We paint walls constantly, every year, unfortunately people don't care about walls that are their home... we will find out a way to work about this. Kind regards, Cristina

A wonderful boutique hotel very close to the Academie, but within walking distance to every major site in Florence. There is a cab stand about a block away if you're going to the airport or train station. The view from the breakfast area is stunning so be sure to go up to the top floor outside areas for beautiful views...

At first glance I thought we were in the wrong place. The hotel does feel like you're entering a private residence. The hotel begins on the first floor of the building, with a small elevator which on one or two occasions wasn't working. The hotel provides a continental breakfast which was alright, but what makes the hotel great is the...

Thank you for commenting! We are actually on the second floor. Hotels not on the ground floor are pretty usual in Florence, as well in others ancient cities. It is also usual find small elevators, this is because buildings are generally very old in the city centre, like ours, a building of the middle of XIX century, when elevators where...

Staying in San Marco

Neighbourhood Profile
San Marco
The pleasant atmosphere of this residential area, a stone’s throw away from the Duomo of Florence, surprises everyone. A continuous flow of backpacking students provides the tranquil surroundings for the elderly residents who sit in Piazza San Marco to read the daily newspaper. Home to several universities, including the Academy of Fine Arts, San Marco is one of the most vibrant cultural centers in the city. A bridge connecting the modern cultural activity of Florence to its classic art, represented by the everlasting magnificence of the original David, resonates as a symbol of Florence and of Italy as a whole. Get lost in a Neoclassic world, a journey back in time through historic buildings like Spedale degli Innocenti (Hospital of the Innocents), San Marco church, Basilica della Santissima Annunziata, and natural jewels like the Botanical Gardens.
