To experience a variety of accommodations in Italy we chose to stay at the convent. The rooms are as expected simple, but exceptionally clean and comfortable. Slight mix up on booking in - it appears in Italy that a 'double room' means a single bed in two rooms(ie. two rooms), not as in Australia, two single beds in two rooms...

First of all, this is a religious place. It's not a hotel as you would imagine, I would call it a guest house? The place is run by nuns, and it's all decorated with crucifixes, pictures of virgins and the Pope. Nothing wrong with it, it's just that since this is not my cup of tea, if I had known...

The hotel itself is nice and quiet, with lovely garden where you can have your breakfast in the morning. There is no television in the rooms, but wifi is working. The rooms are cleaned daily.Only problem we had with the payment. We booked 2 rooms with 2 bathrooms, instead we got 2 rooms with shared bathroom. We didn't have any problem with that, but we were sure we...

There is a nun thats a bit bossy. Otherwise, I have no reservations. All the good basics are adequately covered like air conditioning, WiFi, descent bed with two ajoining rooms sharing one bathroom. Children fit in the shower, but not most adults. Near by is a supermarket were you can purchase a picnic to eat in a lovely coutyard. Of...

The Casa per Ferie Regina del Santo Rosario is a working convent run by Nuns. Good location in the historic streets of Florence, an easy 5-10 minute walk to the Duomo and centre of town. The beds were comfy, we had lovely views of the monastery gardens from our bedroom windows, everything was spotlessly clean & secure, the rooms were...

This is simple accommodation and the breakfast is enough to start the day. I slept well in the comfortable bed. The atmosphere was calm and quiet. I will be going again. We were all very happy with the accommodation. It is so conveniently locate and you can walk everywhere.

This place is about a 30 minute walk from the Santa Maria train station. I'd recommend taking the streets that run parallel to and adjacent to the Duomo. The other streets look reasonable large on the map and more direct, but they have tiny sidewalks that make lugging rolling suitcases a nightmare. The sorelle (nuns) are very nice. The main...

This is a small B&B run by the nuns. I booked via Monastray Stays - but you can book direct. Basic rooms - with ensuite. No mini bars/TVs etc - but who needs these when on holiday in such an amazing city - as you don't spend much time in your room. Very clean and welcoming. It's like an adult...

We had the privilege of staying at Casa Per Ferie Regina del Santo Rosario for 3 nights. (The full name of this establishment is Casa Per Ferie Regina del Santo Rosario even though TripAdvisor has it listed as simply Regina del Santo Rosario.) Yes, this is a former convent house that has been converted into a small bed and breakfast....

Staying in San Marco

Neighbourhood Profile
San Marco
The pleasant atmosphere of this residential area, a stone’s throw away from the Duomo of Florence, surprises everyone. A continuous flow of backpacking students provides the tranquil surroundings for the elderly residents who sit in Piazza San Marco to read the daily newspaper. Home to several universities, including the Academy of Fine Arts, San Marco is one of the most vibrant cultural centers in the city. A bridge connecting the modern cultural activity of Florence to its classic art, represented by the everlasting magnificence of the original David, resonates as a symbol of Florence and of Italy as a whole. Get lost in a Neoclassic world, a journey back in time through historic buildings like Spedale degli Innocenti (Hospital of the Innocents), San Marco church, Basilica della Santissima Annunziata, and natural jewels like the Botanical Gardens.
