Staff members at the front desk were very helpful, spoke good English, and even retrieved a pair of "left" sunglasses from breakfast. The breakfast buffet had a good variety of food and drinks, we really enjoyed the coffee as we are admitted coffee "snobs." This is also a good location, very close to the train station and just steps away... More

We stayed here for two nights. It was only a five minute walk from the train station. Everything was spectacular including the employees, the cleanliness, the breakfast, and the room. On a scale of 1 to 10, I would give it a 9+.

This was a nice, affordable hotel that we chose because it has easy access to the train station. Although not glitzy or modern, our room was comfortable and clean. Even though just about everything in Florence is within walking distance, we wanted to be close to the station so we wouldn't have to carry our luggage too far. The staff... More

Pro: close to the train station, 10 minute walk to most of the sites (Duomo, academia, uffizi), reasonable price. Con's: Mosquitoes in room. I know they're all over italy, but our room had tall french doors that didn't seal well at the top and let those little buggers in. Lack of outlets in the room.

The hotel is clean and the front office staff helpful. The rooms are a little dated, but the bathrooms are good and clean. The paintings of the door scared the daylights out of us as we got out of the lift for the first time, but we got used to it! The breakfast was good and the lady who oversees... More

The hotel was clean but it ends there. The safe (which would easily fit in suitcase) in the room was not attached therefore anyone could go in your room and take the safe and your valuables. We ask the staff about it and they said they require that the room keys be given to the staff upon every departure. The... More

The staff were fantastic. The place is old but it is a very charming. They have a great breakfast with quite a variety of food. In the afternoon they have snacks and tea or cappuccino available. In the evening several times we would be down in the main area and they would make us tea. Even late at night. Very... More

Fantastic breakfast. All fresh bakery good. Fresh juice, & fruit. Homemade yogurt. Every morning individual Cappuccino. Small but pleasant & clean room, quite as well. Few if any English speaking Television stations. But what needs tv, when in Italy. This small hotel is very close to train station, very easy walk. As well as easy walk to many interesting areas.... Staying in Santa Maria Novella

Neighbourhood Profile
Santa Maria Novella
Santa Maria Novella train station welcomes the majority of the people arriving in Florence, which might explain the hectic pace. Commuters and tourists come across the constant hustle and bustle of the station before exiting, taking a few steps and stopping amazed in Piazza di Santa Maria Novella. It is impossible not to admire the the square, housing one of the most charming basilicas in Florence. The area has plenty of local spots to taste Tuscan specialties, but don’t stop in the main streets alone; the narrower side streets always ensure satisfaction. The huge Parco Delle Cascine provides a solution to the need for a green area as well as a historic welcome in the form of a bronze statue of King Vittorio Emanuele II riding a horse.
