#31 of 425 hotels in Florence
Located in the heart of the city, The Place Firenze is an exceptional haven, more like a sophisticated Home than a hotel, adored by everyone who stays behind its discreet townhouse facade. Inside, it is elegance epitomized, with centuries worth of artifacts and lovingly homemade food served all day in its comfortable lounges. This is where different stylistic philosophies are harmoniously joined together: a Charles X fireplace, objects from the 70s, neoclassical furniture and lamps from the 50s, fit perfectly with the sleek masculine soft-colored décor. In between forays to explore the city, retreat to the hotel for drinks or perhaps a homemade cake. Watch the world go by on the al fresco Terrace in Piazza Santa Maria Novella, relax with a spritz in The Bar or on the private Rooftop Terrace with its citywide views. The Kitchen, with its refined atmosphere, serves excellent organic Tuscan and Italian specialties. The knowledgeable concierge team will happily arrange exclusive and unique experiences.

We had a wonderful stay at The Place in Florence. A warm welcome by the Consierge and other staff members. Rooms very clean and comfortable with very special details. The Restaurant excellent, staff as well very kind. Sitting on the terrasse at the Piazza di Santa Maria Novella for breakfast, lunch or dinner while enjoying the Italian atmosphere is outstanding. Grazie! WAB

My fiancé and I stayed at The Place on the first leg of our Italy trip this past August -- it was recommended to us by our travel agent. The Place was just redone and is absolutely gorgeous -- they did a fantastic job with the renovation. All of the interiors are so chic and well done and very unique. Prior to arriving, I had arranged several dinner reservations and activities through the concierge, who was fantastic. Upon arrival, our room was ready (despite arriving early) and we were upgraded to a 2-level suite which was absolutely stunning -- we had a downstairs living room and bedroom & bathroom were on the second floor. The entire staff was attentive and accommodating and were up at our room within seconds with anything that we needed (water, a steamer, etc). The food and beverage was had throughout our stay were also very good and fairly priced, and the staff even helped my fiancé plan our engagement which happened during our time in Florence. This hotel is truly fantastic and I will definitely return. Thank you to the entire team at The Place for a wonderful and very memorable stay!

I completely agree with the previous review that the rooms are a major disappointment in this hotel. We booked a deluxe room through AMEX platinum with a “tranquil” courtyard view. The view was not of a courtyard but of 2 alleys and one window looked out onto a wall with an old air conditioner and the bathroom window looked out into an alley with laundry. It was pretty shocking. The carpet also appeared old and dirty. There was a haughty, distant attitude from most of the staff. For example, there was a beautiful little rooftop terrace with a view of the Duomo that we were not told about by the staff and discovered on our own. At breakfast outside on the terrace, we waited 20 minutes for a menu and another 20 minutes for a bottle of water. Other guests were complaining about the wait also. The staff seemed more concerned with telling people passing by that the terrace was only for hotel guests. They just need to put a sign out front on the terrace that states for hotel guests only, if this is their policy. It felt very haughty, and nowhere else in Italy did we encounter this attitude. Later that day when we returned to the hotel, housekeeping had left a dirty cleaning rag in our room and had not vacuumed our carpet and the bathtub had been treated with something that caused the porcelain to flake off. This is completely unacceptable when paying $800 a night. I addressed these issues with the hotel, and the first encounter was very defensive. When we returned several hours later, the manger did meet us, and he is delightful and was truly apologetic and moved us to a very lovely suite. The gentleman that helped us move our luggage was very kind. We also thought the food at the hotel was outstanding- especially the tiramisu. Finally, when we were in the common areas, many hotel guests were not wearing masks. Coming in our last night, a couple was in the reception area not wearing masks and reception definitely didn’t care or ask them to put their masks on.

The public spaces in the hotel are lovely, particularly the restaurant that sits on the piazza. We thought that the service in the restaurant, particularly by Zacharia, was impeccable. The breakfast, appetizers, and cocktails were great. Where the hotel falls short is in two areas - first and foremost, they did not require guests to wear masks indoors although it is required by Italian law. We rarely, if ever, saw a guest indoors wearing a mask. We wore ours and were saddened that the staff, who also wore masks, were not empowered to uphold the law. Perhaps the key disappointment in this hotel was the room, which is better described as a shoebox. No window, 1 sink, mini shower, and when laying on the bed my hands could reach the walls. At over $2550 for 4 nights we expected a bit more space as well as amenities. We did realize that during our stay the hotel was hosting an event for travel agents, who basically took over the property for 2 of our 4 days. It is likely they got the premier rooms. Our friends were staying at the Hotel Lungarno, which was our second choice. We looked at their room and the hotel property sitting right on the Arno and realized that we would have been much better off there.

Response from Cristina Visconti, Marketing at The Place Firenze

Dear Guest, Thank for taking the time to write such a detailed review, we always ask and appreciate feedbacks, although this one really hurts. The Superior Room (25sqm) is the lead-in category, all rooms in the Hotel do have a window and majority of Superior Rooms face the nice internal courtyard. As mentioned also in our correspondence we are very sorry to hear that you didn’t like the room; If you would like to give us a second chance and visit us again, we would love to let you experience a different room or Suite category. Regarding anti-covid measures we have a massive health & safety enhanced protocol that we follow and constantly update since the opening. As you could see, we send an email with several anti-covid rules to all our Guests before their arrival and we have signs in many different areas of the hotel reminding Guests the anti-covid procedures. We also always invite our Guests to wear the mask indoor when we see that someone is distractedly not wearing it, so we apologize if someone has been missed. The truth is that during our daily operations it is not always easy to check everyone in every moment, also because we trust in our Guests’ education and common sense. Best regards, Claudio Meli General Manager

This is not a usual hotel, this is a place you feel HOME. I would say that this is one of the best places I’ve ever stayed. From the very beginning you feel wanted and cared for here. Experience starts from the door, when you have to ring an actual bell to come in and receptionist welcomes you to The Place, proposes a welcome drink and takes care of your luggage. We had a penthouse, and that’s just breathtaking. The view from the bathroom on the second floor is overlooking Firenze Dome and surroundings. Just imagine taking a bath with this one! The room is spacious, the bed is super comfy, we had welcome presents, and the minibar in the room is also free of charge. Cleaning in our room was made twice a day. The breakfast is included in the room price and you can have it served in the room or on the terrace of the hotel overlooking one of the beautiful Florentinian churches. Breakfast is also to die for. Very tasty and fresh! In this Place we found everything we dreamed for!
