We spent four nights at this lovely hotel near the train station. Nice room, very well decorated. Breakfast was excellent. There is a great roof garden with rooftop views of Florence. We spent hours there. This is the only hotel I've stayed where I needed a guide to find my room from the lobby. Elevator to floor 2, turn left,turn...

If I could recommend just one place or service from my entire one-week vacation in Italy, it would be this hotel. The staff was friendly and the rooms were spacious and beautiful. I couldn't get over the decor of the entire hotel and the rooms -- I felt like I was staying in a rural palace of some sort. The...

We chose this hotel because of the good reviews on Trip Advisor and we were very pleased with our choice. The rooms were clean and very well decorated. The marble bathroom was spacious. The breakfast buffet was great! This was our first visit to Florence and we would definitely stay at Santa Maria Novella Hotel when we go again.

This hotel was WONDERFUL! The hotel is within minutes of the train station by foot and getting a taxi is a snap. The staff, contrary to the remarks of other reviewers, were friendly and helpful. There is a little noise on the piazza if you have the windows open, but I think that is part of the charm of this...

Stayed here for two nights and spent the extra money for a view that was hypnotic (see the photo from my room) but got very tiny room in the process right above an Irish bar (can you say noisy?). My brother and his wife didn't pay the upgrade and got a much larger room with a view of other buildings...

My husband and I checked in for a week in March. The staff was unfriendly and indifferent our entire stay. We had arranged for airport car pick up through the hotel. Our plane was 2 hours late from Germany and the car service was no where to be found. We took a taxi - which was easy. But when we...

Stayed for one night, based on tripadvisor and it's proximity to the train station. The truth is that florence is small enough to make most locations brilliant, but for us it was perfect to be 5 minutes from the train station, overlooking a beautiful piazza. No more than a 15 minute walk to all of florence's main attractions. The room...

My wife and I stayed here for 4 nights in a so called "superior view" room. Well, the view is not all that superior but what the extra expense buys is superior levels of noise. After the first night we asked to move to the top floor to escape what we thought were noisy people in the room above. Amazingly...

'superior double' ho ho! No wonder the shutters were closed, we had a view of an air conditioning outlet and what looked like the staff washroom, this was pricey, when you book, make sure it's worth what you are paying. There are loads of rooms with a good view and perhaps we should have complained, but we're English......

This is a lovely hotel, which is a 5-8 miniute walk from the Central railway station, and minutes away from all the sights. I have read that others on here have found the hotel difficult to find, but it is easy, as you walk into the plaza de santa maria novella, with the church on your right, the hotel is...

Staying in Santa Maria Novella

Neighbourhood Profile
Santa Maria Novella
Santa Maria Novella train station welcomes the majority of the people arriving in Florence, which might explain the hectic pace. Commuters and tourists come across the constant hustle and bustle of the station before exiting, taking a few steps and stopping amazed in Piazza di Santa Maria Novella. It is impossible not to admire the the square, housing one of the most charming basilicas in Florence. The area has plenty of local spots to taste Tuscan specialties, but don’t stop in the main streets alone; the narrower side streets always ensure satisfaction. The huge Parco Delle Cascine provides a solution to the need for a green area as well as a historic welcome in the form of a bronze statue of King Vittorio Emanuele II riding a horse.
