This is a sweet hotel. It is ideally situated literally five minutes from the railway station in Florence, overlooking a lovely square in front of an old church. From the minute we arrived the staff were just so helpful and pleasant. The hotel is all on the first floor of a six story building which originally was a palace -...

Comfort, elegance, service, convenience. What more can you ask for in a hotel right in the heart of Florence, Italy? I must say I was impressed by the gorgeous appointments in the room and dining areas, Enzo and his staff, and the accessibility to the restaurants and sights surrounding the location. I highly recommend this hotel to anyone who wants...

We booked this hotel through tourist info. It is very close to the railway station which is extremely handy and overlooks a large interesting piazza. We were hot and sweaty as it was about 38 degrees and also somewhat flustered. The gentleman at reception was most kind and helpful. I use the term gentleman in its true sense. He was...

The location of this hotel is it's best selling point. It is very close to the train station and most other attractions are easy to get to from there. I couldn't honestly call this a 4 star hotel - I think a decent 3 star is closer. The staff were pleasant and our room was clean but the shower was...

Positives: -staff friendly and helpful -in a perfect location close to major attractions and train station -lots of cafes and restaurants outside the hotel -breakfast was good. I liked the balcony. Negatives: -it was very noisy at night as our room was facing the piazza but we asked to be moved and the room at the back was better

This hotel has nice sized rooms elegantly decorated; has comfortable beds, very nice buffet breakfast in small breakfast area as well as on the veranda. We are used to 3-star hotels; this is a 4-star. Requires electronic card in reader to keep the electricity flowing. The AC was a little weak, but after a shower, it was sufficient to cool...

Arriving unprepared we were guided to this Hotel by the TI office. Ansel has been a pleasure to deal with and Room 105 has a fantastic view of the square. Access to the railway station was one of our primary concerns as this was just a stop in our Italian travels and we couldn't get much closer. Breakfast on the...

Staying in Santa Maria Novella

Neighbourhood Profile
Santa Maria Novella
Santa Maria Novella train station welcomes the majority of the people arriving in Florence, which might explain the hectic pace. Commuters and tourists come across the constant hustle and bustle of the station before exiting, taking a few steps and stopping amazed in Piazza di Santa Maria Novella. It is impossible not to admire the the square, housing one of the most charming basilicas in Florence. The area has plenty of local spots to taste Tuscan specialties, but don’t stop in the main streets alone; the narrower side streets always ensure satisfaction. The huge Parco Delle Cascine provides a solution to the need for a green area as well as a historic welcome in the form of a bronze statue of King Vittorio Emanuele II riding a horse.
