Hotel Abaco has seen better days and is overpriced for the cramped, dingy surroundings reached by walking up three flights of unlit stairs (even at night). The bathroom had a bad odor and meager facilities in a space the size of a tiny closet. The shower sprays on the floor shared with the WC and sink, the curtain of thin,...

Hotel Abaco was tolerable except for the pillows. We are not picky people and have stayed at many small hotels in the past, but the pillows at hotel abaco made sleeping extremely difficult. It felt as though the pillows were some sort of very lumpy bean bag. Everything else was okay, but we wouldn't stay there again.

Despite the various scary reviews on travel advisor, I still followed the recommendations of lonely planet and booked a 3night stay at Hotel Abaco. The only faults I can find are that the climb up to the property with heavy luggage was terrible. If you can live with 5min of difficult heavy lifting, you'll find your stay here quite rewarding....

We stayed at Hotel Abaco for three nights during our recent two week trip to Italy. The process of making reservations via email was very smooth and the staff was very friendly. Our room was very, very clean and the bed was super comfortable, one of the best beds of our whole trip. The decor was interesting and very well...

My girlfriend and I booked this hotel for 3 nights but ended up only staying for a disgusting 2. We expected the bare minimum as we have stayed in many small European hotels in the past. When we arrived we were a little apprehensive: The dark winding staircase up many flights of stairs towards the awkward front door of the...

My husband and I stayed at Hotel Abaco in early fall 2003 and loved it. As others have noted, it was definately within walking distance of all main sights of Florence. We walked from the train station to the hotel and this was not a problem. It was a bit hard to find, but the guidebook we got the listing...

The hotel was in a great location but looks better on paper than in person. The staff was ok but one young woman that worked nights was untolerable. She was very unwilling to assist us in any aspects of our stay. The room was cold and the stairs were not bad but were very daunting and dark at the end...

We were less than pleased with our short stay at Hotel Abaco. Staff was grumpy at best, we were unable to find the hotel (only a tiny little sign). Had to lug up our suitcase 3 flights. Room was tidy and clean, WC was fine. Weirdest thing was that I woke up in the a.m. to huge bug bites!! Location...

We really enjoyed our stay at the Abaco Inn. The staff was very helpful, the location was very convenient to all the sights and it was very clean and comfortable. Although, if your a llight sleeper bring earplugs!

Myself and 3 other travel companions stayed at the Hotel Abaco April 16-19. It is a nice little hotel in the centre of Florence just 5 minutes walk away from the Duomo. The location is great as you can walk anywhere you want to go. We stayed in a room with a bathroom which was a bonus!! The window had...

Staying in Santa Maria Novella

Neighbourhood Profile
Santa Maria Novella
Santa Maria Novella train station welcomes the majority of the people arriving in Florence, which might explain the hectic pace. Commuters and tourists come across the constant hustle and bustle of the station before exiting, taking a few steps and stopping amazed in Piazza di Santa Maria Novella. It is impossible not to admire the the square, housing one of the most charming basilicas in Florence. The area has plenty of local spots to taste Tuscan specialties, but don’t stop in the main streets alone; the narrower side streets always ensure satisfaction. The huge Parco Delle Cascine provides a solution to the need for a green area as well as a historic welcome in the form of a bronze statue of King Vittorio Emanuele II riding a horse.
