We very much enjoyed our recent stay, for 5 days, at this unpretentious, friendly and comfortable hotel. From the moment we arrived, and throughout our stay, all the members of staff went out of their way to be friendly and helpful, despite the fact that it was a very busy holiday period. They helped us very patiently with finding bus...

Great hotel that is walking distance to everything pretty much in Florence and the train station. When we arrived, service was excellent from a nice lady there. But after that we didn't see her again for the remaining few nights and we had to deal with a guy (wearing glasses) that could be described as aloof and condescending to us....

Stayed here for 3 nights lovely hotel very friendly staff excellent English and very knowledgable on what to see and how to get there. Only downside was that it was a little far out of the city. Took about 20 minutes to walk to the Duomo as you will be walking pretty much all day this is something to take...

Hotel Giglio, small run hotel, clean, quiet, with a great staff & A/C. everyone is really helpful & personable. breakfast was a great way to start the day. Once you realize the hotel is on the second floor, & might need two trips on the elevator to get all our luggage up, you will be surprised by the comfort &...

We expected more of the same experience we had all across France for a "budget" hotel - cramped quarters! But this place was expansive. Slightly austere in its decorations, it felt like a modified hermitage. The ceilings were literally 30' high, and very quiet, even facing the street. A bit dark...but for us, retreating for a period of recouping after...

My husband and I stayed here in June 2016. The room was clean, but Spartan. The elevator is very small. The staff was phenomenal. They were very helpful in finding an ATM w/a good exchange rate. The breakfast every morning was a very good way to start the day. They made the best de-caf coffee for me every morning. The...

Very close to station and easy to find: cross the road, keep straight and second road on the right. 10 mins. Had a twin. Very well priced. TV did not work (didn't need it, and was surprised to see it), the shower room was in dire need of renovation. No hot water. Close to many restaurants. Beds so bouncy I...

Standard hotel for price. Good location. First Class Customer Service. Best coffee in Europe so far. Marco manager more than helpful and knowledgeable, for where to go, what to do and where to eat ( we did what he suggested Brilliant)

Rooms were pleasant and clean, with very friendly staff. Great location, within easy walking distance from the main attractions. There was also a great selection of breakfast items, and they were very accommodating to my gluten free diet.

Love this quaint little hotel. A bit of a walk to the main part of town. Nice room, spacious and quiet. Staff at reception were very friendly and most helpful with luggage and arranging taxi services. One morning we had an early tour and the staff let us eat breakfast before the proper opening time. This was very considerate. Wifi...

Staying in San Marco

Neighbourhood Profile
San Marco
The pleasant atmosphere of this residential area, a stone’s throw away from the Duomo of Florence, surprises everyone. A continuous flow of backpacking students provides the tranquil surroundings for the elderly residents who sit in Piazza San Marco to read the daily newspaper. Home to several universities, including the Academy of Fine Arts, San Marco is one of the most vibrant cultural centers in the city. A bridge connecting the modern cultural activity of Florence to its classic art, represented by the everlasting magnificence of the original David, resonates as a symbol of Florence and of Italy as a whole. Get lost in a Neoclassic world, a journey back in time through historic buildings like Spedale degli Innocenti (Hospital of the Innocents), San Marco church, Basilica della Santissima Annunziata, and natural jewels like the Botanical Gardens.
