We decided to celebrate my birthday this year in Florence, for its art and for its food. Despite the stormy weather in the Tuscany, we have had a very nice and memorable weekend there. We stayed in the Hotel Guelfo Bianco for two nights and in the Hotel Orto dei Medici for two nights. We choose these hotels because of...

We had a wonderful time. The hotel is close to many of the historic sites as well as shopping areas. The room was large, airy and very clean. The balcony provided a great view of the city and a very nice place to relax. The staff were very friendly and helpful. Breakfasts were very nice with a good assortment of...

We had a nice stay here... in a lovely room on the top floor, but the street noise from two bars below us was a bit much. As well, there was a lot of constuction on the building across the street making it just about impossible to enjoy the balcony... We did not ask to change rooms, because the space...

Dear Guest, Thank you for your review. It is nice to hear you enjoyed the room and your stay even with the minor inconvenience mentioned. I would like to thank you for understanding the construction noise was out of our hands. Please come back soon! Kind Regards, Nicki Sciortino

Great value and only 10 minutes walk to the duomo. The free breakfast is really good and the staff was very helpful. Parking is a minor inconvience because the lot is not right next to the hotel. Also very close to the academia museum.

Thank you for your review! I'm glad you enjoyed your stay and the hotel. As for the minor inconvience you are right the 2 parking garage we work with are not right next to the hotel, but they are just a 2 minute walk away. I would just like to specify that the car is picked up in front of...

We are so happy with our experience here. The location is superb- an easy 15 minute walk from the train station (we just brought carryons- wouldn't be that easy with big bags). It's a stunner when you enter- a lovely reception with a library/lounge downstairs. Staff is wonderfully accomodating- providing a converter so I could plug in my computer, umbrella...

We stayed at Orto de Medici for one one night in October. The hotel is lovely - big, clean, modern rooms with very comfortable beds. We stayed in a garden view room and had a lovely balcony all to ourselves - really lovely room. One thing I loved about the room was a separate bathroom to toilet. The hotel is...

I have stayed here twice and have enjoyed it both times. It has modern conveniences and old world charm. Both times I had a large group of college art students in tow and the hotel welcomed all of us warmly. It is located within easy walking distance of most of the main attractions.

Nice hotel, modern rooms but old-world ambience. Good location in florence, excellent breakfast. All staff were very helpful. We had two different rooms - one was perfect and the other was shabby, so just be aware of an inconsistency in the rooms.

Dear Guest, Thank you for your review! Yes we do have different room types. Classic rooms which have a classic florentine interior style, Deluxe rooms which were renovated in 2009 so they have a more modern style and Superior rooms with balconies looking over the rooftops of florence, these also have a classic florentine interior design. We all appreciate the...

This was the quintessential Italian experience here. It is beautiful, quiet and perfectly located in a wonderful area. Would love to stay here again. The only negative was they don't have a hotel bar and the "cocktail party" bar maid serves you one welcome mimosa out on the patio from the laundry room or something - that seemed a bit...

Dear Guest, Thanks for your message. It's nice to read how you loved the beauty and the location of the hotel. At the patio bar we have an "Happy Hour" from 6 to 8 pm in our outdoor terrace. By the way the maid uses a service room which is not the laundry but... thanks for the impression! Francesco Bini

Staying in San Marco

Neighbourhood Profile
San Marco
The pleasant atmosphere of this residential area, a stone’s throw away from the Duomo of Florence, surprises everyone. A continuous flow of backpacking students provides the tranquil surroundings for the elderly residents who sit in Piazza San Marco to read the daily newspaper. Home to several universities, including the Academy of Fine Arts, San Marco is one of the most vibrant cultural centers in the city. A bridge connecting the modern cultural activity of Florence to its classic art, represented by the everlasting magnificence of the original David, resonates as a symbol of Florence and of Italy as a whole. Get lost in a Neoclassic world, a journey back in time through historic buildings like Spedale degli Innocenti (Hospital of the Innocents), San Marco church, Basilica della Santissima Annunziata, and natural jewels like the Botanical Gardens.
