We traveled Europe for two weeks and spend 4 of those nights at this hotel. It was our favorite because of the clean rooms, the garden/terrace area, and the wonderful continental breakfast. It was also located close to the big attractions, but far enough away to give you a little peace and quiet.

Spent 9 nights with our group in this beautiful hotel. Quiet and conveniently located to downtown sights such The Duomo. Beautiful, modern up to date rooms with very modern bathrooms. Loved our walk in shower with rain shower head. The outdoor gardens provided a peaceful. The morning breakfast was fabulous. Staff was very helpful. I can't comment on rates as...

The hotel is situated near Piazza San Marco and the Accademia, on a quiet and beautiful street. It is close to everything, yet not noisy. Staff is extremely welcoming; rooms are spotlessly clean and very ample, decoration is of very good taste. Breakfast is of an average level - even though there are very nice touches, such as the possibility...

My husband and two other family members stayed at the Orto for 4 nights in April. It was recommended to us by a friend who used to live in Florence. The location is great--5 minute walk to David (Accademia) and San Marco (Fra Angelico) and 30 minutes or less to almost everything else. Check in at front desk was smooth....

Nice place in city center, more off the track as it lies in a more student than tourist area. Staff nice but not overly accommodating. Afternoon wine does not occur on holidays or when they have a private party and there is no substitution. Room was very nice with good appointments. Be ready to read Italian on the lobby computers...

Dear Michael Thanks for your review. I am glad you enjoyed the most of your recent stay. We usually recommend the best restaurants in the area, and since we are in the city center it is very likely to find many foreiners (and yes tourists) in the best places, but this doesn't mean that Italian people won't go, infact I...

My wife and I stayed at Hotel Orto De Medici during our recent vacation to Florence. What a gem! Our room was clean and very comfortable, complete with a private terrace, free wifi and a great continental breakfast. The hotel staff were very friendly and extremely accommodating. Plus, the hotel is really close to the Santa Maria Novella Station, and...

We stayed 2 nights and were very pleased. Unfortunately we were not told the terrace did not open until May so that was a disappointment. The rooms on the lower floors are updated and modern if a bit small. There are larger rooms on the 4th floor which are more spacious, less updated and have a private terrace. Breakfast was...

Very well located near the Academia Gallery in a historic building with stylish and tasteful decor, comfortable and spacious rooms. The staff is particularly helpful, welcoming and friendly. The breakfast is adequate but not outstanding. One criticism of the rooms is that while there is sufficient hanging space there are no drawers in the closets. Most enjoyable!

It was always lovely to get back to the hotel after a day exploring Florence, especially as the garden and terrace which our room overlooked was gorgeous. The staff were all friendly and helpful in restaurant recommendation and travel advice.

We stayed for four nights in this delightful hotel, and could not have been happier. The building, as virtually every other in Florence, is old, but it has been maintained and upgraded to a very high standard and it thus retains plenty of character whilst providing full amenities. There is a very pleasant garden with a fountain and outdoor eating...

Staying in San Marco

Neighbourhood Profile
San Marco
The pleasant atmosphere of this residential area, a stone’s throw away from the Duomo of Florence, surprises everyone. A continuous flow of backpacking students provides the tranquil surroundings for the elderly residents who sit in Piazza San Marco to read the daily newspaper. Home to several universities, including the Academy of Fine Arts, San Marco is one of the most vibrant cultural centers in the city. A bridge connecting the modern cultural activity of Florence to its classic art, represented by the everlasting magnificence of the original David, resonates as a symbol of Florence and of Italy as a whole. Get lost in a Neoclassic world, a journey back in time through historic buildings like Spedale degli Innocenti (Hospital of the Innocents), San Marco church, Basilica della Santissima Annunziata, and natural jewels like the Botanical Gardens.
