The Florence Hotel Orto de' Medici’s location is ideal because while located in the “historic center” of Florence it is just outside the noisy hustle and bustle…which is only a short walk away. When walking through our hotel in Florence, you really do feel like you are in a classic and upscale historic building. The front desk staff is very helpful and friendly, and from the moment you arrive you are made to feel very welcome. Each room is uniquely and elegantly appointed, a restful oasis for the busy traveler. The bathroom is very spacious and the shower is wonderful after a long day of sightseeing. Breakfast, with plenty to select from, is served in a cozy room that spills out into a welcoming patio and a beautiful little garden. The hotel lobby and reading rooms are a nice place to relax after a full day of sightseeing (plus free internet - either wifi or with brand new Apple computers).

My daughter and I have been returning to the Orto de Medici for the 8th time and it never ceases to satisfy. This time a lovely extension to the breakfast to an outdoor/indoor eating area which I am sure will be lovely come spring/summer when the windows and roof can be opened. The breakfast itself is exceptional (especially for Italy) with cooked eggs, fruit, yoghurts, cheese, cold meats etc.
Staff at the Orto de Medici are all welcoming (from Judith and all the reception staff) to the housekeeping and breakfast room staff.
I cannot recommend the hotel highly enough - a short walk to the Duomo and a welcoming return to the room every time.
Thank you to all - and see you again in 2021.
Frances and Laura

The staff at Hotel D'Oro de Medici went out of their way to make sure we were comfortable and saw to every detail. While we visited during some warm weather and the a/c had been turned off for the season, our room valet located a fan to keep us and our room cool. The included breakfast was one of the best in all of Italy.
The hotel location was within easy walking distance from popular sites such as Central Market, the Duomo, the statue of David, as well as many piazzas, restaurants and cafes.
Hotel manager, Dr. Giacomo Bufalini, was so welcoming and even after our return home, kindly offered to send to us 10 complementary bottles of their amazing Oliva del Mediterraneo shampoo for only the cost of shipping (25 euros). Dr. Giacomo Bufalini personally took these to the local Mailboxes store for shipment. This action was above and beyond customer service.
We will definitely return to Hotel D'Oro de Medici and beautiful Florence (Firenze) when it is safe to travel again and have already highly recommended this hotel to our friends and family. Grazie Mille....Ciao for now !

We stayed for four nights in July. The hotel has an understated charm with a pretty garden at the back where you have breakfast . The hotel is small with about 40 rooms which are reasonably large for Florence and simply decorated (and air conditioned) The staff were always friendly and smiling. We had a car and they had an arrangement with a nearby ( 10min walk) parking garage to pick-up / drop off the car at about USD35 per day. They brought us a coffee pot when asked which was nice to have.

The hotel was clearly well renovated, with great taste. The room bathroom was well planned and the shower is great! However, this is the first hotel I ever stayed where there was no English language tv channel. The tv had more than 200 channels ALL in Italian! The room heat was noisy and hard to control the temperature. And let's not forget the nightmare the front desk people were. They do nothing to help and seem to always approach on a negative way. For example, could you call a cab? They replied: "not sure there will be any available", and then after they called, in 2min a taxi arrived. There were many situations like that. When in doubt, they just couldn't help. This is the first hotel I ever stayed that when you ask about tour options, they hand you over one only small booklet (the same you find in the simple cafe next door) and then wash their hands for any other help you may need. All of that adding to the fact they gave us the noisiest room (across from the loud breakfast room) when we specifically asked for a quiet room during our reservation, made my stay one I would like to forget about. I'm not coming back to this hotel and I wouldn't recommend it to any friend!

Dear Madame, I am sorry you were not fully satisfied with your recent stay. We offered you to change your room at least two times, and the director himself proposed to give you a different floor, but you always refused to. By the way we all checked your reservation and there was no mention for a "quieter room". On the first days you came to ask to book a tour to a Winery that was closed due to holidays and nobody answered to their telephone number. We gave you a list of available tours, but you just walked away... How can we help you if you have no time to stop and discuss at the lobby? We do have more books and options available, but you gave no time to us to show you! The day next the same, we had to stop you to apologize after your negative feedback, we did it very humbly and offered you complimentary gift to your room. You had no time to change room or to discuss tours. Also, we do have English channels in every room (n. 800-835). This is also listed in the hotel directory that every room has. I find hard to understand also what is wrong to let you know that usually on the evening of Dec. 31st taxis are harder to find, but we promptly found one for you anyway. I thank you nevertheless for highlighting the nice decoration with the renovation of the hotel. The Madame who travelled with you was very nice all the time, stopping to ask information. We helped her to find a pharmacy and to order food to take away while you were in the room. In the next five das you always tried to avoid any contact with the lobby. Highlighting promptly an issue is a good thing and we always welcome suggestions and complaints, but you have to give us apossibility to manage and solve it.Hoping you will have a nice 2020 we send you our Best Regards Francesco Bini

Our experience at the hotel deserves at least 4.5 out of 5 stars. The staff was very friendly and accommodating; the hotel is beautiful and very well-maintained; starting the day with a tasty and complete breakfast did not hurt either. The location of the hotel is barely north of the city center, which makes walking around Florence comfortable.

Our daughter is at Marist Italy and her apartment is across the street from Hotel Orto De Medici. The convenience for us was just wonderful! The hotel staff is very helpful, polite and multilingual. The rooms were meticulously clean and very comfortable. The included breakfast had something for all appetites and was considerate of food allergies. We were within 20 minute or less walk of all the major museums and The Duomo, etc. Metro and SMN train station nearby for easy transportation links to other cities or Florence airport. The price is not inexpense but reasonable when all other accomadations are considered. Historic garden created by the Medici's and used as art studio and school for artist like Michelangelo. Loved it there!

We stayed at this hotel for our anniversary holiday. The room we were given did not look like the photos on the website (we booked a deluxe room with courtyard access), as it was very bare with no sofa and only had one sink in the bathroom. Despite the rooms being advertised as soundproofed, we could hear people in the next room, and every time the door from the courtyard slammed it woke us up. We were also expecting a queen bed, but discovered that it was 2 single beds pushed together instead.
The breakfast was a smaller offering than expected, although that may be due to the current situation with Covid. Rather than helping ourselves at the buffet, we had to ask the staff to serve us.
The location was our favourite thing about this hotel as we were able to walk to everywhere that we wanted to visit. We tried one of the restaurants recommended at the front desk (Simbiosi pizza, 5 mins walk away) and had a lovely evening with some delicious food.
Overall, despite the great location and helpful staff on the front desk, we would not pay this much for a deluxe room here again as we did not think it worth the price.

Dear Guest, Thanks for your review. Being part of an historical property means that we could not build up identical rooms like a brand-new buildings, but we had to adapt the existing spaces into hotel rooms. This means that there are not 2 identical rooms in the whole property, and there can be some slight differencence even from the same-type room to room. I am sorry that you did not report you disappointment to the lobby, as we had several free rooms to chose on the night you were here. I am sure we would have find a room perfect for your needs. I thank you for understanding that the limitations to the buffet breakfast are due to the current situation with Covid. I am nevertheless happy that you fully enjoyed the location of the hotel and our restaurant recommendations. Thanks also for pointing out the helpfull staff. Francesco

Our original room was very small, but the staff willingly moved us to a larger room that was very comfortable with an updated bathroom. The hotel is nicely appointed and was very clean. The hotel was close enough to the center of the city to be convenient, far enough away to avoid the noise and crowds. We would definitely stay here again.

Lovely hotel away from the hustle and bustle of the city centre and yet close to all the major sights of Florence - especially the Galleria dell'Accademia which is about 4 mins away. Room was well equipped, spotless and so quiet - never heard any other guests in the 3 nights that we stayed. Staff were very friendly and patient with our rudimentary Italian! Breakfast was excellent and overall the hotel took the Covid precautions very seriously which was reassuring in current times.
Would absolutely recommend and will stay again if we return to the area.

I stayed at the hotel with my husband for a long weekend in Florence. We were upgraded to a superior room with a lovely terrace. The view of the rooftops, the Medici Chapel Dome and the hills was an extra plus of the room - very atmospheric. The location is good both for the museums and the city centre, and also the train station.

The breakfast was good and even though it's corona times, I feel like the hotel took all the necessary precautions both in the common areas and the breakfast room.

The receptionist was really helpful and knowledgeable and answered all of our questions (I. E. tourist information about the sites).

The reception had a list of suggested places to eat, museums and churches to visit including opening times. We had already decided where to eat, but the museum opening information was very useful.

I would stay here again.

I confirm the walk is about 10-15 minutes. If you have luggage I suggest to use taxi, as the sidewalks of Florence can be really narrow. Francesco
