We stayed for four nights in this delightful hotel, and could not have been happier. The building, as virtually every other in Florence, is old, but it has been maintained and upgraded to a very high standard and it thus retains plenty of character whilst providing full amenities. There is a very pleasant garden with a fountain and outdoor eating...

This is my second stay here and my hubby's first - he got the recommendation from a co-worker and for the past 5 years we've recommended it to our daughter, cousin and friends. It does not disappoint! The staff is friendly and helpful, and will make dinner and museum reservations. There are Mac computers in the lobby, free to use....

We are impressed by Florence as a city, and staying at the hotel Orto De Medici was even a plus to our impression! As to the room: we were on the ground floor with the windows facing a small garden with a fountain, the room was spacious enough and the beds were very comfortable. I liked the location as well....

Really enjoyed my stay at this hotel. About 10 minutes walk to get to most places in Florence. The room and bathroom were very clean. Loved the bathroom. It was large for Europe standards. The staff was very friendly. The breakfast spread was ok. But it was complimentary so I am not complaining. Overall very happy with the stay.

My room had a great view across the city skyline; it was quite large and well kept. The hotel is only 5 minutes walk from the Accademia and the Uffizi and near to hundreds of excellent local restaurants

Clean and friendly and we're from NYC. First time in Italy and Florence. Almost a minute walk to the Accademia and the breakfast was beautiful. Friendly staff and a great view of the city buildings. Great overall.

The hotel has history and is beautiful and a short distance to central Florence. Rooms are spacious (but air conditioning not great) and all the staff are kind and helpful. Highly recommend this hotel.

The hotel staff was great and gave us an free upgrade with we checked in. The room was spacious with a large bathroom. A very good continental breakfast was included in the room rate, and free computers were available in the lobby.

What an incredible, lovely, quiet hotel in Florence. Was very easy to get to from the train station. It is very close to city central which made walking to the sites very easy. Upon entering the lobby area you can just feel the history. History but with modern ammenities such as free WiFi, computers to use, etc. The room was...

Staying in San Marco

Neighbourhood Profile
San Marco
The pleasant atmosphere of this residential area, a stone’s throw away from the Duomo of Florence, surprises everyone. A continuous flow of backpacking students provides the tranquil surroundings for the elderly residents who sit in Piazza San Marco to read the daily newspaper. Home to several universities, including the Academy of Fine Arts, San Marco is one of the most vibrant cultural centers in the city. A bridge connecting the modern cultural activity of Florence to its classic art, represented by the everlasting magnificence of the original David, resonates as a symbol of Florence and of Italy as a whole. Get lost in a Neoclassic world, a journey back in time through historic buildings like Spedale degli Innocenti (Hospital of the Innocents), San Marco church, Basilica della Santissima Annunziata, and natural jewels like the Botanical Gardens.
