While it is a little more expensive than other hotels in Florence-it has a beautiful view on the rooftop with a pool for those hot summer days. Beware that one day a week they shut down the pool area for a free appetizer social time but SO many families and couples were disappointed since it was a hot day-they don't...

Dear Guest, thank you for being with us and for your kind review. I would like to add a couple of words about our swimming pool opening times. The rooftop terrace and its pool are open every day from 9am to midnight (I can assure you that these long hours are not very common). The pool is operating in the...

Just spent a most enjoyable week here. Our room was a superior double overlooking the Piazza Maria Novella. It was comfortably furnished with a large ensuite. Our only complaint about the room was the totally inadequate air-conditioning. It was not nearly powerful enough and would not go below 26 degrees which we found stiflingly hot. We complained and got a...

Dear Guest, thank you for having stayed with us and for your kind words. I am really happy to read that you enjoyed your stay in Florence and it will be a pleasure to share your opinion with my collaborators. Please accept my apologies for air-conditioning not properly working in your room. Considering your long stay I assume the problem...

The Grand Hotel Minerva is in a great location - just around the corner from the train station; it's on the Piazza Santa Maria Novella; and it is walking distance to the Duomo/Bapistry, Piazza della Republica, Piazza della Signoria, and the Uffizi/Ponte Vecchio. And if you're taking a tour (we took the wonderful Walkabout Best of Tuscany tour) they meet...

Dear Guests, Thank you for having been with us and for you kind words. We have taken good note of your remark regarding our beds and we will consider your suggestion. As you may well imagine, hardware cannot be substituted that easily but I can assure you that feed back from our customers is our main guideline for changes and...

It's difficult to add something new to the opinions of other guests. Hotel Minerva is really superb, specially if you love taking photos. The views from the terrace are amazing and taking photos of the sunset after a hot day, really a memorable moment,. Many thanks to Roberta at the front desk and to Louise for the photos!!!

Great check in service, very welcoming and friendly staff! Room was lovely, very quaint and full of character but a bit small. However, the hotel is located in the centre of Florence. It was very easy to reach on foot from the train station. The pool area offers a lovely escape from the heat of the city, which is on...

I had not been to Florence before and wanted to ensure my family enjoyed their stay. I was first attracted to the hotel's central location - very handy to the train station too - and then by the roof top pool. The Trip Advisor reports were quite favourable but I still half expected at least the pool to be a...

This is our third stay at the Grand Minerva. It's excellent. The staff are extremely friendly and very helpful, the breakfast is excellent, even for us vegetarians! It's very clean, spacious and centrally located. The Piazza outside is very busy at night, I can see how that would make some feel a little intimidated, however, we never saw any trouble...

Dear Guests, first of all let me thank you for your continued support both in visiting and reviewing us. I am sorry that you have felt awkward on our rooftop, which is supposed to be our relaxing place “par excellence”. It is actually the first time that such a situation is brought to my attention and that’s why we have...

We booked this hotel for 5 nights as part of our honeymoon in Italy and wern't disappointed. From check in we found the hotel staff friendly and helpful, especially Nadia who checked us in and made us feel very welcome, giving us lots of information about Florence and telling us about things to do in the city. Our room was...

We stayed for a week at this lovely hotel. The situation is very good-just 5 mins easy walk from the main station, and overlooking a lovely square with the usual superb marble covered church present! Dear Guests, thank you for having chosen our hotel and for your enthusiastic review. I would like to add something regarding the façade of the church of Santa Maria Novella. Not everybody knows that its marble façade is one of the few in Florence which have been realized by the same artist who has designed it (namely Leon Battista Alberti...

Staying in Santa Maria Novella

Neighbourhood Profile
Santa Maria Novella
Santa Maria Novella train station welcomes the majority of the people arriving in Florence, which might explain the hectic pace. Commuters and tourists come across the constant hustle and bustle of the station before exiting, taking a few steps and stopping amazed in Piazza di Santa Maria Novella. It is impossible not to admire the the square, housing one of the most charming basilicas in Florence. The area has plenty of local spots to taste Tuscan specialties, but don’t stop in the main streets alone; the narrower side streets always ensure satisfaction. The huge Parco Delle Cascine provides a solution to the need for a green area as well as a historic welcome in the form of a bronze statue of King Vittorio Emanuele II riding a horse.
