Exceptional welcome by front desk staff, beautifully furnished rooms, quiet location on beautiful piazza with the Church of Santa Maria Novella (don't miss a visit there - go in the early morning to avoid the crowd), great breakfast in a lovely room, awesome roof top pool with terrace for relaxing and enjoying a drink and snacks, friendly staff. Just a...

We stayed for a week at this lovely hotel. The situation is very good-just 5 mins easy walk from the main station, and overlooking a lovely square with the usual superb marble covered church present! The breakfast was plentiful aand tasty and the staff were very friendly, but the coffee was awful!-shame, because otherwise we can't fault this hotel. The...

Dear Guests, thank you for having chosen our hotel and for your enthusiastic review. I would like to add something regarding the façade of the church of Santa Maria Novella. Not everybody knows that its marble façade is one of the few in Florence which have been realized by the same artist who has designed it (namely Leon Battista Alberti...

My husband and I stayed here for a few nights 7-10th August. We had a quiet room (305) and everything was perfect, clean, comfortable. Breakfast was extensive as you would expect in a 4 star, everything you could think of including champagne, which we took full advantage of as it was our 30th wedding anniversary celebration. The roof terrace swimming...

My husband and I have just got back from 3 nights in Florence, staying at the Minerva. I booked this hotel as a surprise for my husbands birthday, and was very glad I did. The rooms are very spacious, we stayed in a first floor room at the front of the hotel (overlooking the square), yes there is plenty of...

Stayed in Grand Minerva for 3 nights and found its location great. We came in from Venice, and literally walked less than 10 minutes to arrive at Hotel. Although being near a train station wouldn't generally be considered a good location, it was actually situated in a Piazza with that was bustling with tourist, even at 12am. The hotel itself...

We stayed here in June, for 4 nights at the end of a small tour of Italy. The reason we chose to stay here is that the hotel has a pool and is very centrally located. The drive into and around Florence was pretty stressful (on the day that we left they were changing the one ways system road signs,...

Dear Guest, thank you for having been with us and for your very benevolent review. I would like to take this opportunity to explain a couple of things about driving to the hotel. Actually, you are right: Florence has undergone a series of changes in its traffic system but I dare say the situation is now stable. These changes have...

Had 2 different stays during month of July. On both trips, the staff was welcoming and very helpful. Hotel is clean and location of hotel is fantastic as well as safe for single (female) traveler...even though minutes from train station. Did not eat at hotel restaurant as it always seemed closed. Minor inconsistencies in room: robe & slippers on one...

Dear Guest, thank you for having chosen our property and for reviewing us in such detail. You are actually very benevolent in calling “minor inconsistency” not finding the same amenities (robe & slippers) on one of your stays. Actually this is part of our special program “Travelling Ladies”, dedicated to single female travelers, who enjoy special attention at our hotel...

We picked this hotel without any prior knowledge of it or recommendations. It was a good choice. The staff was extremely helpful and the hotel was quiet despite being very well situated. It was only a couple of blocks from the train station and within walking distance of most of the main attractions in the city since Florence is so...

My husband and I stayed at this hotel July 2011. It was nice that the hotel was so close to the train station! We had a room facing the square (Santa Maria Novella), but every night there are people outside partying until early morning and the windows are not soundproof. The air conditioning also didn't work very well, even on...

Staying in Santa Maria Novella

Neighbourhood Profile
Santa Maria Novella
Santa Maria Novella train station welcomes the majority of the people arriving in Florence, which might explain the hectic pace. Commuters and tourists come across the constant hustle and bustle of the station before exiting, taking a few steps and stopping amazed in Piazza di Santa Maria Novella. It is impossible not to admire the the square, housing one of the most charming basilicas in Florence. The area has plenty of local spots to taste Tuscan specialties, but don’t stop in the main streets alone; the narrower side streets always ensure satisfaction. The huge Parco Delle Cascine provides a solution to the need for a green area as well as a historic welcome in the form of a bronze statue of King Vittorio Emanuele II riding a horse.
