Had 2 different stays during month of July. On both trips, the staff was welcoming and very helpful. Hotel is clean and location of hotel is fantastic as well as safe for single (female) traveler...even though minutes from train station. Did not eat at hotel restaurant as it always seemed closed. Minor inconsistencies in room: robe & slippers on one...

Dear Guest, thank you for having chosen our property and for reviewing us in such detail. You are actually very benevolent in calling “minor inconsistency” not finding the same amenities (robe & slippers) on one of your stays. Actually this is part of our special program “Travelling Ladies”, dedicated to single female travelers, who enjoy special attention at our hotel...

We picked this hotel without any prior knowledge of it or recommendations. It was a good choice. The staff was extremely helpful and the hotel was quiet despite being very well situated. It was only a couple of blocks from the train station and within walking distance of most of the main attractions in the city since Florence is so...

My husband and I stayed at this hotel July 2011. It was nice that the hotel was so close to the train station! We had a room facing the square (Santa Maria Novella), but every night there are people outside partying until early morning and the windows are not soundproof. The air conditioning also didn't work very well, even on...

Dear Guest, Thank you for having chosen our hotel and for dedicating your time to reviewing us. I am sorry that your stay was troubled by some inconveniences and hope you will accept my apologies. Actually the square in front of the hotel (which is one of the most beautiful squares of Florence, only accessible to pedestrians and vehicles reaching...

My husband, myself and our 3 kids arrived by train from Rome. We walked from the train station to the hotel. We booked 2 connecting rooms and was upgraded to a suite the size of an apartment. Huge even for North American standards. It had a beautiful balcony that overlooked the piazza and the santa naria novella church, 2 bathrooms,...

The hotel is sited a short walk around the corner from the Santa Maria Novella train station, on a large open square. I loved the location, although away from the congested tourist areas, a five minute walk will take you to most of the wonderful places in Florence. We stayed in a junior suite which had a very small balcony...

My wife and I stayed at the Hotel in June, and found the location for Rail, shopping, sightseeing and restaurants very good. We arrived by rail from Venice, and the hotel is only a very short walk from the SMN station. Easy walking distance to the leather markets around the Piazza San Lorenzo and the main shopping streets around the...

Dear Guest, Let me first of all thank you for having been with us and for your extensive review. I am really sorry that you have not been satisfied with your room. I would like to spend a couple of words about our room types and their features. Classic Double is our basic type of room and is at least...

Stayed here with a friend this month (July) for 4 days, wanted to indulge ourselves in a bit of relaxation and sightseeing. Also wanted a hotel that had a pool as weather known to be hot and sticky in summer months. Fabulous location for museums and galleries, easy walking distance to everywhere. Staff brilliant, especially Roberta who went out of...

Staff incredibly professional and helpful. Not only stored baggage (standard), but had it in our (upgraded gorgeous suite room) for us when we returned. Breakfast/brunch excellent included full cooked and continental including mimosa. Lovely views from rooftoop swimming pool/terrace.

We stayed here for 4 days as we were in Florence for a wedding. The location could not have been better, as its a 4 minute walk from the train station! We stayed at this lovely hotel in the centre of Florence. Everything was perfect: The lunch at the roof terrace, the view of the city both in day and night light, the service from the staff, the parking service and the breakfast. Quite expensive but definitly worth it all.

Staying in Santa Maria Novella

Neighbourhood Profile
Santa Maria Novella
Santa Maria Novella train station welcomes the majority of the people arriving in Florence, which might explain the hectic pace. Commuters and tourists come across the constant hustle and bustle of the station before exiting, taking a few steps and stopping amazed in Piazza di Santa Maria Novella. It is impossible not to admire the the square, housing one of the most charming basilicas in Florence. The area has plenty of local spots to taste Tuscan specialties, but don’t stop in the main streets alone; the narrower side streets always ensure satisfaction. The huge Parco Delle Cascine provides a solution to the need for a green area as well as a historic welcome in the form of a bronze statue of King Vittorio Emanuele II riding a horse.
