I have stayed in about a half dozen small hotels in Florence over the years. The BEST is the Hotel Magenta! For starters, it's in a quiet neighborhood where I can actually sleep well! Not easy in a busy city. It's location is just a ten minute walk along the Arno from the Ponte Vecchio. A beautiful walk in the...

We stayed here for five nights and had a good visit but there were some hiccups. First, the hotel only had one iron for the entire hotel and it was broken. This posed a big issue since I had a business meeting to attend. I had to make do with a wrinkled suit. Second, the breakfast was hit and miss;...

Hotel Magenta is a reasonably priced, family operated hotel located fairly close to the action but very close to two bus stops which cheaply and quickly take you to the Duomo or the Ponte Vecchio. If you are driving the car park is right across the street which for us was 20 euro per day. Breakfast was included, was decent...

We stayed at Hotel Magenta in early October. We were a little less-than-impressed by the room. We expected street-noise ; it was a front lower level room, but for the area and time of year it still seemed a little excessive. Mosquitoes were a nuisance but the mildew stain on the wall was really what took the shine off what...

The Magenta is located a short walk from the train station, within a block or two of the river and only a little farther to Pointe Vecchio (the famous bridge close to town center). The room was nice and roomy but had a very smal shower and a tiny tv. The staff was courteous and helpful and the cost was...

Decent clean room and good location. The only downside was the Mosquitos we had to massacre upon arriving. Lots of mosquito repellent needed. We had ours turned on all the time. Their bathroom also needed updating and it was pretty gross that their shower doesn't drain. The location was great. Everything we wanted to see was within 20 minutes.

Location is good. Breakfast is fine. Very freindly stuff. Great value for money!! We stayed here family of 4 for 3 nights and my wife liked the lication I picked for our vacation. The hotel has nearby parking which we used for 20 Euro a day.

This room was considered a 3-star, however in comparison to our hotel the night before in Roma, I would give this a much higher rating. Friendly curious staff, clean room, working AC, and located close to shopping, dinning, and historic areas!

1) Pretty close to the train station and walkable to most of the tourist spots in the city 2) Small hotel and has limited rooms but good and prompt service. 3) No overselling, they are very open about their limitations. 4) Small-sized elevator, we got a wheelchair accessible room on prior request 5) Okay breakfast, good coffee What needs to...

My husband and I stayed for 4 nights at the Magenta Hotel. It's about a 8 minute walk to the train station and 10 minute walk to most sights in the city of Florence. For the first few nights, we appreciated being a little bit outside of the hustle bustle and having a quiet street to stay off of. The...

Staying in Santa Maria Novella

Neighbourhood Profile
Santa Maria Novella
Santa Maria Novella train station welcomes the majority of the people arriving in Florence, which might explain the hectic pace. Commuters and tourists come across the constant hustle and bustle of the station before exiting, taking a few steps and stopping amazed in Piazza di Santa Maria Novella. It is impossible not to admire the the square, housing one of the most charming basilicas in Florence. The area has plenty of local spots to taste Tuscan specialties, but don’t stop in the main streets alone; the narrower side streets always ensure satisfaction. The huge Parco Delle Cascine provides a solution to the need for a green area as well as a historic welcome in the form of a bronze statue of King Vittorio Emanuele II riding a horse.
