Staff are helpful and couldn't be better. The hotel is close to almost every attraction of Florence. The hotel has large rooms with beautiful furniture and great breakfast. There is a solarium when you want breakfast overlooking the city when the sun is out. Restaurants and cafe beside the hotel and across from the hotel there are many shops. If...

Hotel Paris is made up of two or three adjoining palazzos. There are some very nice original features dating from the 1500s. But, it's such a maze of stairways and doors that it reminds me of an Escher drawing. While I appreciate its quirkiness, the first couple of days I had to drop breadcrumbs to find my way back to...

We had a 2 floor room, which sounds quite exotic, but really wasn't. The furnishings and decor are very dated, but if can look past that, it was a rather charming and unique hotel. The bathroom was extremely small, but adequate. The hotel is very close to the train station and also to Il Duomo. If you are not planning...

Flew to Pisa, navigated bus and train easily to Florence. Remember to validate your train ticket on the platform before you board the train. Hotel Paris was brilliantly located round the corner from Duomo. Excellent location. Huge room with great facilities. Fantastic breakfast. Great staff, so helpful. I don't usually go back to the same place twice but I would...

First of all, I'd like to note that this rating would have been slightly higher had there been no renovations happening at the time of our stay. The hotel was repainting sections and replacing large sections of carpet throughout. This is an adorable hotel in a very central location in Florence. A 5 minute walk from the train station in...

We took the children (twin girls, aged 9) for a city break over the October half term. The hotel location is pretty good - a short walk from the railway station and a little further from the Duomo and the centre of town. Florence isn't large so you can walk everywhere without too much trouble. The hotel is, as other...

Large family group, there were 11 of us, stayed here for a long weekend. If you don't like shabby chic then this isn't for you. It is a beautiful building but does not scream luxury hotel. It is clean and comfortable with excellent modern bathrooms and is full of old world charm. Plethora of clean towels and free toiletries. Lots...

Lovely oldie world hotel about 3minute walk from the station and about the same to the duomo so very handy. Friendly, helpful staff, good breakfast and very clean. Plumbing not too modern but adequate. Only gripe is that the dining room isn't quite big enough so we had to queue for breakfast. No big deal. Although it was too cold to...

Staying in Santa Maria Novella

Neighbourhood Profile
Santa Maria Novella
Santa Maria Novella train station welcomes the majority of the people arriving in Florence, which might explain the hectic pace. Commuters and tourists come across the constant hustle and bustle of the station before exiting, taking a few steps and stopping amazed in Piazza di Santa Maria Novella. It is impossible not to admire the the square, housing one of the most charming basilicas in Florence. The area has plenty of local spots to taste Tuscan specialties, but don’t stop in the main streets alone; the narrower side streets always ensure satisfaction. The huge Parco Delle Cascine provides a solution to the need for a green area as well as a historic welcome in the form of a bronze statue of King Vittorio Emanuele II riding a horse.
