Nestled in the heart of Palermo, the Grand Hotel Wagner charms guests with its elegant, nostalgic atmosphere that harks back to a more opulent era. The prime location is a hit among reviewers, allowing easy exploration of local cuisine and attractions. While the hotel's cleanliness and spacious rooms earn high marks for comfort and style, opinions on value are mixed, with some guests mentioning extra costs. The commendable service and variety of amenities, including a well-regarded breakfast buffet, ensure a stay that many find to be a delightful blend of historic luxury and modern convenience.

The hotel was a ten minute walk from where we got off the airport bus and ten minutes to the old town area so a brilliant location. The hotel is lovely, very ornately done out. Our room was very comfortable with a good bed. The breakfast buffet was amazing, so much choice. 10 out of 10 for the scrambled eggs which are usually bad from hotel buffets. The staff were all friendly & helpful. Would definately recommend here.

This may have been a wonderfully grand building in the past but seemed a little tired and gloomy. My room certainly needed a coat of paint. The walls were splattered with red paint ( I hope) and nothing was painted red in the room which I found a little amusing. The hotel claims to have satellite channels but none of the English language channels has adequate reception to be watchable. In 6 nights I probably caught 15 minutes of BBC news after trying every night. To make matters the Wifi is also not fit for purpose, having to reconnect every 10 minutes or so.
On a positive note, the breakfast is very good. Despite being laid out as a buffet with the current situation you have to point at what you need from behind a screen. However , staff are obliging and helpful in carrying out the process in a way that we can all remain safe.
My room was very quiet, thick walls maybe, and getting a good night s sleep was easy .
The hotel is about a 20-25 minute walk to the train station which was further than I d hoped but clearly that s my fault not the hotel s ! It is however within walking distance of all the major city sites.
Not the best hotel I ve ever stayed in by a long way, but despite my comments it probably was nt too bad for the price, which for a major city seemed good ( depending on whatever individual deal you can get)

Family trip over Xmas to explore Palermo. Nice rooms, decent size, lack of storage space, comfortable beds, excellent staff. Very clean, super comfy bathrooms, well appointed. Valet Parking is offered at a nearby facility for around 30 euros per day and that facility is not 24 hrs open. The bar and the bartender are extremely chic. The breakfast is very nice, lots of options, great service - ask Davide- but the offer is pretty much the same so if you stay longer can be challenging somehow. However, the fifth star is puzzling as there is no restaurant onsite and during holidays in Italy getting food can be challenging. Room service was overpriced and not in a diverse area of offer. But is a great location and when holidays are over you don’t miss that...

The Hotel building is impressive but the staff and the service they provide is absolutely first class. It is probably rude to single out individuals when everyone was friendly, helpful and efficient but Giselle and Vim were particularly helpful with additional touches. Thank you both.

The Hotel is well placed in the historic part of the city; the major attractions and shops are all within a comfortable walking distance. There are very good restaurants within 200 yards of the hotel (try Lato B, Locale & Quartino d’elite).

The Hotel is decorated in classic Italian style. The rooms were great (very clean and well presented) and the bed was unbelievably comfy. The breakfast buffet was perfect, everything you would expect, including prosecco if you wish. The canoli is filled as it is served to ensure the pastry case stays crisp. Buonissimo.

Highly recommend the Grand Hotel Wagner. You won’t be disappointed.

Excellent hotel within in walking distance to all main attraction.

Friendly helpful safe.

Classic Italian style interior with quite Aircon, bed was very comfortable and the shower had great temperature control as long as you do not flush or us the sink at the same time.

COVID Safe, with ALL staff wearing masks and sanitation stations around the hotel. Breakfast was buffet but all behind glass screens, you pick what you liked and the waiter behind the screen place on plate and brings to your table.

Breakfast had hot and cold food with a small selection of Sicilian favourites.

Definitely recommend this hotel.

This is not a 5star hotel.Though advertised as wheelchair friendly, during our visit the chairlift only worked once.To make matters worse it hardly fitted my mobility scooter. After one night stay we had to cut our holiday short due to covid restrictions imposed by our home country. To take a taxi I had to go down the steps at the main entrance on my bottom. The room was cold,AC was not functioning and electricity supply was intermittent. To put the icing on the cake the management are refusing to refund us the rest of our stay,3 nights, lost due to covid. What a shame! Not recommended at all.

We stay at Grand Hotel Wagner 6 days in September 2021. Director of the hotel young and energetic Gisella Catanzaro. The hotel has old charm. Everything pleases your look. The reception desk was hospitable: We came before check-in time – they organized the cleaning and gave us a cozy room. Our room has good old furniture with touch of Sicilian baroque, solid fixtures, Murano glass chandelier and heavy silk curtains. But bathroom was completely modern with good pressure shower. Room service was immaculate. The breakfast was served on the terrace, quite “ascetic” and it falls out from the rest of the hotel. The breakfast was satisfying. Next time we definitely will stay at this hotel and take a suite.

We stayed six days in the Grand Hotel Wagner in July 2020. The room was comfortable and well-furnished, but some of the gems of this hotel are the common areas. The lounge and bar are fantastic, and we also enjoyed the little "grotto" with fountain in the basement. The staff was courteous and very helpful. They recommended everything from restaurants to shops to how to visit Mondello Beach. They even kept me updated on the Juventus game when I couldn't watch the match. The location can't be beat, with shopping, restaurants and many of the best sites in Palermo within a short stroll. Because of COVID-19 they had a "buffet breakfast" behind plexiglass: you simply picked what food you wanted, and the gloved staff filled your plate for you. We found this to be a much better way to have breakfast than other hotels in Sicily were doing, which were a fixed menu or either trying to remember what they had available back in the kitchen. We particularly liked the manager, who was friendly, professional and very helpful. We always wanted to stop and talk to her when we saw her, and she even took some pictures with us when we checked out. There is a lot to see in Palermo, and the next time we come we intend to stay in the Hotel Wagner again.

We spent two days at the Grand Wagner in February. The place has a number of pleasant sitting rooms where one can sit around and read at leisure, with the comfort of a well stocked bar a few steps away.
The staff is very helpful. Prices are not cheap but the rooms are worth it.
Breakfast was still under the nonsensical constraints of the Italian state's Covid rules but the staff managed the situation well.
The hotel had no restaurant when we visited but room service was efficient and quick (cooked by a nearby restaurant obviously). As to why there was no restaurant, I was given the Delphic explanation that it would "open soon". It is not unheard for Sicilian hotels to close their restaurants in the off season but in a city like Palermo one would not expect it. My guess is they were refurbishing it but were reluctant to say so.
Be this as it may the Grand Wagner is full of charm and we will be back

After a rather indifferent hotel experience in Rome, the Grand Hotel Wagner was a welcome change. Their staff was knowledgeable and helpful. The rooms were clean, spacious and well appointed. The bed was comfy, and wow... those blackout curtains really black out the room. Slept like a rock. Breakfast was OK, plenty to choose from, if not particularly high quality. My only complaints is that it seems the temperature control in the room doesn't really work. You can adjust it, turn it off, whatever, it just resets to what it was before. The front desk folks can make the change, but, it seems pretty much a choice of too hot or too cold. Otherwise, my Mom-in-Law didn't find the coffee really good unless lots of milk was added.
