Enjoyed our recent stay in this lovely hotel. While it rained the whole time - making the pool and adjacent park off limits - the stunning interior design and superb service made up for the storms. Antonio and Alfredo at the Front Desk were very kind and even remembered our wedding anniversary. The hotel's restaurant is pricey but of a high quality, and the servers are charming. While the nearby beach area leaves a bit to be desired, the hotel's proximity to the airport is an added plus.

On October 1st, 2018 my wife and I, together with another couple, checked-in and were assigned rooms 248 and 250.

During our four day stay the behavior of the entire staff, from the cleaning ladies to the parking valets to the restaurant's waiters and waitresses was simply perfect.

On the morning of October 5th, we went to check out. The clerk at the desk presented us with a bill that included, for 248, a charge for four “spritzers” and, for 250, a charge for two “limoncelli”.

We informed the clerk that we had not consumed anything at the bar.

In support of the charges, the clerk then showed us two receipts from the bar, with the stamping of our names and our room numbers, illegibly signed.

Faced with our insistence, the clerk, albeit with an unpleasant facial expression, desisted. We left our luggage in temporary storage and left the hotel.

In the afternoon we returned to collect our luggage. The same clerk wanted to meet me to claim, in a challenging fashion, that the barman had confirmed that the charge for 248 was correct while the charge for 250 was indeed a mistake.

My request as to why one charge was correct while the other was wrong, although both receipts had our names and corresponding room numbers, was met with a blank stare.

From that moment on the level of professionalism of the clerk began to reveal itself for what it was, that is, very low.

Incredulous to find myself in such a regrettable situation, I demanded to meet the barman. He was not on duty. I then demanded that he be contacted via Skype or similar audiovisual system. I was told it was not possible.

The clerk was obviously in a particularly delicate position. On the one hand, his colleague had insisted on the correctness of the charge and on the other hand the guest firmly denied it.

This is one of the very issues, delicate and difficult to handle, where the professionalism of an employee emerges, if it exists.

The clerk, with his attitude, body language, facial expressions and less than proper verbiage, showed an indecent lack of the professionalism necessary to handle a situation that did not get much more unpleasant only for the intervention of the hotel’s manager.

The manager, realizing the inability of his subordinate to handle the situation, quickly closed the issue with the necessary courtesy and professionalism.

It is surprising how a hotel that boasts a five-star luxury rating can put as an interface between its organization and its guests a character of such low professional level that, by himself, can make a pleasant visit to a splendid city end in such a way as to leave a bitter memory of the experience.

On October 16, 2018, upon my return to the US, I wrote a lengthy message to the hotel describing the event. After a full month they still have not found it necessary to show me the courtesy of a reply.

The superior room, the extensive grounds and the nice deep pool were lovely.
But the bottle bar: €18 large beer.
There’s only 1 restaurant not 3. Cold starters. We had steak & mushroom, which was lovely, but we asked were the rest of the plate was... potatoes & veg/ salad you have to pay extra for but they don’t tell you. You also have to pay extra for a drink, even water.
We asked for milk for tea in our room and were charged for UHT milk.
We recommend the restaurants along the beach. Large beer €4 and the food is lovely and good value for money.
Breakfast was similar to an holiday inn express: basic & not nice.
We didn’t see any other couples, just corporate meetings.
This is what they call half board 5 star luxury!

The hotel itself is in need of some restoration (notice the large crack in the picture window as you walk along the darkened corridor where the rooms are). The staff are sometimes friendly but mainly indifferent. It's located in a pretty down at heel area - there are no restaurants or shops nearby - and the buildings surrounding are covered in graffiti, while there's a lot of open rubbish skips left to fester. The beach is okay (sandy) but the view from the pretty unfriendly 'beach club' is of the nearby container port. We left early and no one asked why.

I stayed at the hotel during a conference and was excited to stay there but quickly disappointed after I arrived.

The hotel looks very tired, furnishing are dated, rooms and terrace must have been designed and completed many years ago. The hotel is right by the water so there is a lot of humidity and when I entered the room there was a slight smell of damp carpet/fabrics.

Check in was OK, but it feels more like a 2 star hotel. The staff are friendly enough, but the lack of attention or going the extra mile further confirms the 2 star status.

The beach is very close but buildings look very run down and I felt unsafe walking down to the beach.

Dear Kare L, thank you for your review and your kind comments on our staff members, but we feel obliged to reply to the criticism of our location. Our five-stars hotel is regularly monitored because the maintenance is one of our top priorities. We do not know any problems about the humidity of carpets and walls, but we will be careful to verify as soon as possibile. Regarding the beach is based outside the hotel, so does not come within our competence. Best regardes

I guess a taxi should be possible if booked in advance. Concierge should be able to help, but per my review, the staff was not well trained or helpful

The hotel posts the travel time, reserve at front desk. I am sorry I do not recall the exact time, but there is a morning shuttle and possibly up to three a day. There is also public bus service, at that time for one euro... More
