Stayed at Relais Fra’ Lorenzo for 2 nights. The guesthouse is located on the hills of Verona, which provides you with a fantastic view over the city of Verona. The staff goes above and beyond to make your stay comfortable, everyone is very helpful. We were in Room 5B, which is at the back of the building. But nevertheless with a great view! The room itself is equipped with all modern facilities that one would expect, and most important: clean. For those who have preferences for a soft or hard pillow, they provide you with several options which you can take from the closet. The breakfast is likely one of the best we have had so far … there is a lot of choice, all is fresh. On request the staff can also make you scrambled eggs with lot’s of delicious things inside… thanks Robert!! And although I have no gluten-allergies, I noticed they have a specific area in the room where they provide the guests with gluten-free options. Robert, Fabienne and others… we had a wonderful stay at Relais Fra’ Lorenzo, and we will definitely come visit again during summer time.…
My wife and I stayed at Fra' Lorenzo for a few days. We had a private suite by the swimming pool and enjoyed the peacefulness of our little corner surrounded by a multitude of well kept greens. The views from Fra' Lorenzo were absolutely gorgeous. Te entire city of Verona is just below you and at sunset, we could enjoy an 'aperitivo' seeing the changing colors over the adjacent hills. The staff was very friendly and, although, Fra' Lorenzo is not equipped to be a full restaurant, it serves a a few local dishes that are equal, if not better, of what is usually tasted in the best restaurants in Verona. The pool temperature was ideal and I made a point of swimming at least twice a day to get some exercise.
Thank you very much for hospitality and taking care for such a beautiful place. It was a pleasure to stay there. We had unforgettable breakfast in the room and stunning view. The location and the hotel building are very special. Personal is friendly and responsive. It’s not just a usual touristic place. This is a place with history.
Beautiful hotel set in beautiful gardens. What a treat to be by the swimming pool overlooking the stunning old town of Verona. All the staff in the hotel were great and helpful. Simply a perfect place!
Let’s be clear. Fra Lorenzo is NOT a 5* property. More like a glorified guest house. Before arriving at FL we stayed at Grand Hotel Des Iles Borrommees in Stresa for less euros per night. Without doubt a 5* hotel. Excellent facilities, superb spa , right on the lake front, and incredibly smart staff. Then we stayed at Relais San Vigilio in Bergamo. Only a 4* because it doesn’t have a pool , but again excellent. Decor superb, excellent restaurant, superb smart staff. Then we arrive at Fra Lorenzo. The most expensive per night by a mile but to give some fairness it was the opening weekend of the Verona Opera so bound to get inflated prices. Even so ………. Let’s start with the positives. The staff are very friendly if somewhat shabby looking and helpful when they are around. Great recommendations from Sara for dinner on a couple of nights. Great view of the surrounding countryside and parts of old town Verona. Size of our executive suite was very good. Swimming pool was refreshingly lovely in the heatwave we experienced but the plastic lining was lifting in some areas of the pool and I’m not sure the 4 jets of water thrusting out when a button is pressed constitutes a spa! Could do with cleaning down the sun longer seats or providing a comfortable sun bed cushion like most 5 * hotels provide. It was very quiet and peaceful though. The tiny bowl of peanuts and olives straight out of a jar accompanying our beer by the pool sort of sums it up though. Negatives. Not a short walk into the centre by anyones stretch of the imagination. Steep descent with no pathway until 2/3rds of the way down. The decor is certainly done on the cheap, lots of gold paint everywhere. There is no restaurant at this 5* hotel but that is not very clear on the website. It states there is a bar serving food yet that was not our experience. If you wanted something to eat you have to call them from your own phone from the pool or your room as the room phone was not working. It took ages to get anything but to be fair after the first experience we decided against ordering anything else. The TV in the room only had Italian channels and did not work at all in the bedroom. The shower head had a big blob of mold on it and the bedside table next to my husband had woodworms and beetles crawling out of it onto the bed the whole time. No change of towels during our 3 night stay, our room service lunch was not cleared away until the next morning, no turn down service in the evening. All these you expect for the price we paid per night at over 550 euros , and as they are quite proud to say , a 5 * hotel. Breakfast. Certainly not the finest and freshest. Juices from a carton, terrible coffee if that is possible in Italy of all places, UHT milk and an omelette that resembled an egg pancake with cheese in the middle. The whole place is deserted at night. We arrived back to let ourselves in at 10.15 pm. Total darkness until doors are opened with the key. No chance of sitting in the bar to have a nightcap , everything shut down. Bar locked. Honestly I don’t think I have written such a review but please take note that the only thing that makes this hotel 5* is the fact it ticks all the boxes to meet this criteria ie a swimming pool. Other than that you are staying and paying for a decent guest house with a great view. Nothing else.…
This is a glorified guesthouse, not a hotel Worse it doesn’t have the facilities it advertises The pool is nice but just because it has 4 bubble spouts, it can not then be described as a spa!! No kitchen or restaurant No hymn No spa No real common areas No room service No room turndown Room cleaned once a day and towels/sheets not replaced All this for the price of a 5 star hotel!! Avoid Go somewhere/anywhere else. Do not be misled Television only free to air - Satellite not working(!?) Reminded me of the Marigold Hotel movie on generous description of what didn’t exist
Pleasant small hotel on a hill overlooking Verona. The views of Verona from the garden are stunning. You can walk from the hotel to the town in about 20 minutes but it is quite a steep busy road (there is a short cut worth knowing about). However, Taxis are just 15 Euros and the Hotel runs a minibus at 11am. There is an amazing Argentinian restaurant five minutes walk from the hotel - they have a private gate so worth asking the hotel to let you in through this gate. The pool is a small, pleasant sun trap set in a small garden area. Staff were very friendly and Robert (who drove the minibus, carried the cases, did the gardening and maintenance) was a real character. Our first trip had been booked pre-Covid and the hotel were very accommodating about rearranging this visit not just once but twice.…
Going on vacation is all about making new memories. The staff did so by exceeding every expection by helping with our engagement. The hotel and the view are stunning but the experience and kindness of the people are even better. It truly is an unforgettable place.
This was the perfect retreat after 2 very busy days of travel/business. Antonio and his team couldn't have been more friendly & accommodating - excellent hospitality with true Italian charisma and charm!
Enjoyed two peaceful nights in this beautiful hotel in the hills with very friendly staff and owner Antonio. Can not recommend it enough for a relaxing and comfortable stay after a long day. It's only 15 mins walk down hill to the city centre but suggest getting a taxi back!
