5/5 This is the most unique hotel experience I ever had. It was so charming and delightful I felt I was staying in a fairytale hotel. The interior and decoration are a throw back in time, yet completely luxurious and efficient. It is situated in the old town close to everything else. Next time I will surely choose a room with a balcony.
This hotel is a real museum , with excellent staff and location , room is amazing , clean , breakfast is great , easy to communicate in English , the garden area is great with sounds of beautiful birds , I will return back definitely again if I will visit beautiful Verona again , thanks to the staff Dr Adel Bahrain
From the moment we arrived at the Gabbia d'Oro we were made very welcome and comfortable. Nothing is too much trouble for the efficient and courteous staff, particularly the Manager and this peaceful, well-located hotel is a haven of calm luxury and relaxation. The hotel's central location ensures that all Verona's attractions are easily accessible - just outside the hotel's discreet frontage in fact! The quirky decor is comfy period country house meets ancient village Inn meets Italian glamour complemented by interesting books, photos and fresh flowers. It is probably a 'Marmite' sort of look and decor. No minimalism or polished concrete to be seen. Our room was spacious, cool, comfortable, pristine every day and with a very good bathroom. Attractive fittings and decent Toiletries. Our only disappointment was the lack of a balcony or a view. Breakfast is just the best - wonderful choice, quality and presentation iwith a relaxed and discreetly efficient service. Highly recommended.…
Some people may find this hotel quirky. That's an understatement. It's like a cross between something out of Dickens and a Surrealist painting. There's hardly an inch of wall space not covered by a picture and it's literally stuffed with antiques (and/or the old family furniture?). On the good side, the position of the hotel is wonderful, within very easy walking distance of the Arena. The service was extremely welcoming. On the other hand, we had a bedroom, separate sitting area and bathroom, but all three were so tiny that we could hardly turn round. The bed was like sleeping on a board. There was no bathmat, nor the promised bathrobes. The marble surround to the bath was so high and the bath so slippery that getting in and out to have a shower was a highly risky experience. The "garden" is a mosquito-infested scrap of a courtyard. The glass roof of the conservatory seems not to have been cleaned in years. My husband's overall comment was that whoever had given the hotel a 5-star rating was having a joke.…
Don’t pick this hotel if you are looking for a cookie cutter standard international hotel. Do consider it if you enjoy a quirky, eccentric and thoroughly Italian hideaway. The venue is truly in the heart of the city. Rooms are compact but well appointed. Rooms at the front capture all the life of the city and consequently will be noisy well into the evening. Rooms at the back are for those who might prefer a more peaceful stay. The staff were excellent. Courteous, informative and got us into a difficult to book restaurant at very short notice. The interior has lots of nooks and crannies to explore and Romeo and Juliet to entertain you with their birdsongs. Practical things to be aware of. Ironing is arranged on request and at a charge. Breakfast eggs are a must to order and English speaking TV is very limited. Not that you should need it in this charming city! No hesitation in recommending this to discerning travelers.…
We booked back last October, searching for a five star hotel in Verona not wanting to go back to the previous Hotel (considered n1 which was no where near 5star). I searched and went through and compared various reviews from different sources and tried booking well in advance. The Hotel Gabbia D’Oro was our perfect solution for a weekend over in Verona for a long time summer friend’s 50th birthday party. The hotel well exceeded our expectations! Extremely courteous, it felt being guests in an exquisite home. Very pleasantly decorated with a distinguished personal touch and good taste. Antiques, silverware, a sanctuary of tradition. We booked a Junior Suite and were upgraded to a Superior Suite, 204 very cosy and just perfect, an entrance, living room, double bedroom and complete marble bathroom. We just had to ask for a proper hairdryer instead of the slow wall dryer, everything else was there for us. Breakfast room at a glance was triumphant and glittery, personnel very kind, discreet and service full. In the conservatory I regularly passed by to say hello and “chat” to two beautiful parrots Romeo e Giulietta. Romeo would recognize my voice as I descended the second time and chirruping like calling out for attention, an absolute delight. The blonde lady at reception was particularly kind with us throughout. Thank you for the nice time, we shall definitely recommend Hotel Gabbia d’Oro for anyone wishing to have a super plunge into historic Verona, couple of steps away from Piazza delle Erbe, all within walking distance. Thank you!…
We stayed here recently for a night after a cycling trip that ended outside of Verona and could not have been more delighted that we did. First, the location is unbeatable as it is close to everything . Secondly, this beautiful, boutique hotel is like staying in someone's cozy house. Our room was on the smaller side, yet grand with a beautiful bathroom. And the common areas invited one to read a book accompanied by a nice aperitif. Plus, they have a beautiful courtyard. The breakfast was simply wonderful and so pretty that you hated to disturb the presentation. The staff here was also so very helpful and kind. It is not an inexpensive hotel, but well worth it. I wish we had stayed longer and would stay here again.
We returned to the Gabbia d'Oro having stayed there 6 yers ago. Just as remembered - charming, superb staff, amazing breakfasts all in a great location. Yes, the rooms are small - we had a junior suite facing onto the street (excellent sound insulation) which was certainly cramped, as was the bathroom, but the character made up for this deficiency. We had checked out the Due Torre, but concluded that although luxurious and more spacious it could have been anywhere. In the Gabbia d'Oro we felt part of a renaissance city!
We stayed for two nights in a Junior Suite in July. Unfortunately our visit to the hotel did not start well as no matter what we did with the GPS we could not get to the hotel. We ended up parking and walking a short distance to the hotel to get reception/concierge to help out and they could not have been more helpful. They went and got the car and brought around to the hotel. Please note that there is a €50 parking charge per night at this hotel which we did not know about and thought it was a little on the dear side! The hotel is in an old world style which will not be to everyone's taste (my taste runs to modern but we wanted to try something a bit different). While we could not fault the location the room was a little disappointing. The room was dark and on the small side for a junior suite though that may have had more to do with the amount of dark furniture and small windows overlooking a very dingy internal space. The bathroom was the worst. Absolutely tiny with the shower in the bath tub and no where to put toiletry bags. Climbing in and out of the bath was a nightmare, particularly given how much the shower screen leaked. This hotel has tons of charm and the staff were supper helpful - if you lower your expectations to that of a 4 star you won't be disappointed. May sure you go to the opera and do spend the extra money on stall seats (other seats can be really uncomfortable and it's a long evening). It's a lifetime experience/bucket list experience.…
we were moved here because the hotel we had booked could no longer honour the booking. this was their suggestion. we were not disappointed. the rooms are comfortable as were the beds. everything works, great showers and intruiging fixtures and fittings. the common parts are well decorated and the breakfast was impressive indeed. staff very accomodationg. would stay here again at the drop of a hat.
