I stayed at the Hotel Scalzi for two nights in January 2023 as part of a larger Italian holiday. It was my first visit to Verona. The premises are part of a beautifully restored old palace and the room I had on the first floor was well appointed, clean and comfortable. The bathroom was modern and clean. The staff I encountered were very kind and helpful and spoke excellent English. The buffet breakfast was very good and on the whole this was an excellent place to stay. Being in the low season there weren't many guests and I was given an upgrade to a better quality room than the single I had booked. It overlooked the central courtyard. The hotel is about ten minutes walk from the central part of the old city, where the Arena and most of the restaurants are. It was a very quick taxi ride from the railway station (8-10 euros). As far as I'm aware there isn't a lift but the stairs weren't too difficult to negotiate with my suitcase. I'm certain the staff would be willing to help with luggage if this was an issues for guests. I'd be very happy to stay here again.…
Verona is an expensive city crowded with tourists. This hotel is a short walk from the railway station in a quiet residential area away from the crowds, but still only an 8-10 minute walk to the centre of town. I stayed in a single room, which was spotlessly clean and had everything I needed including English language news channels on the TV (not so common elsewhere). My only quibble was the size of the shower compartment, which would not be suitable for a larger person. I kept hitting my elbows against the glass which was annoying. The staff were very friendly and helpful and the buffet breakfast in the "secret" garden a delight. Overall, it is good value for Verona, but possibly not compared to other smaller towns in Italy. Lastly, the Gelateria La Romana just across the street from the hotel is excellent!…
I stayed for 3 nights at Hotel Scalzi at the start of my trip to Italy. The room was neat and clean, air conditioning was great and next to silent and the bed comfortable. It was also very quiet, which is important for me, being a light sleeper. Breakfast was included, as well as delicious cappucino. Staff is very friendly and helpful. Can totally recommend this 2 star accommodation.
We stayed for just one night but the hotel was comfortable and perfectly suitable for our needs. It's an easy walk from the station. Because of Covid they no longer provide a buffet breakfast but the breakfast provided was very generous and they were able to supply various gluten-free items for my coeliac husband. Staff were helpful and friendly.
We booked this hotel via booking.com, when we became aware that we could not get into Italy because the airports were closed we applied for a refund. This hotel claimed that because they were open that they did not have to give a refund!! This was despite no one being allowed to stay at the hotel. This stance is against EU regulations and booking.com’s own policy for dealing with refunds. Both booking.com and this hotel refused to deal with the situation. We took the hotel to court and won, we received a full refund and more importantly these fraudsters taking opportunistic advantage of innocent people to make a quick profit had the money taken back out of their bank. We do not recommend staying with any dishonest hoteliers.
Nice friendly hotel just south of the main Verona old town. About a 15 minute walk. The hotel is very clean and comfortable with good sized rooms, smallish bathroom. Breakfast room across the courtyard serves a varied breakfast from 7.30 till 10.00. Hotel has an old building character with homely touches. Parking available at extra cost nearby.
Small hotel, very clean and on excellent location. Just 10 min walk from Arena. However there are few points to take into consideration before booking this hotel. There is no elevator, so if you carry heavy luggage, prepare to lift it yourself to the first floor. The rooms are small and tiny so if you are tall or big in any way, this might be a problem. I barely could open my suitcase in the room, and walking around the bed to hang up my clothes was impossible. The bad is also a bit short do if you are taller than 1.86cm it might be an issue. The bathroom is tiny too so for me there was no problem but I can imagine that tall ppl might have issues using it. The breakfast is very nice, but hotel is a bit creepy but in fashioned way. Nothing bad, but some of the areas look like they are made for Halloween purpose. Overall, good deal for the money if you are not too tall.…
Nice and clean with very friendly staff (and very patient, as we were a big group!) within easy walking distance into Veronas beautiful town centre. Excellent Italian coffee in the mornings and a typical Italian breakfast. No complaints apart from a few mosquitoes 🦟 on the loose in the room, apart from that, you pretty much pay for what you get!
After a 8 min walk from the Porto Nuova railway and bus station you arrive at a huge wooden arched gate. The hotel is listed so no signs etc allowed. The hotel was an old palace and it still has that charm. Through the door you are warmly greeted and given a handy street map. The hotel is low on stars as it does not have a lift but all rooms are on the 1st floor. Our room was large overlooking the ' secret garden courtyard' .Modern and dated went well together. The room had tea/cofee making facilities and a mini fridge. Breakfast is adequate with the usual collection of meats and pastries. The location is 1st class, again only 6 or so mins from the sights and the Piazza's. If you have time take the train to lake Garde its €3 to Peschiera and then the boat to Lazise. Its a lovely hotel and would we stay again, definately.…
Old quaint hotel that is adult only. Being a listed building there are no lifts, but the staff will assist you if required. Breakfast is continental and there is a nice variety. Best to book a room at the back away from the main road at the front. It is about 15 minutes walk from the main center and is not far from the train station. Taxi fare from the airport is about 30 euros, one way. Be aware of mosquitos in hot weather if you have the windows open. There are outside shutters though, that you can close. The staff were very friendly and although there is no tea facilities in the room, there is a balcony area above reception where you can make a drink if you want one.
