We have recently returned from a 3 day stay in Venice, during which we stayed at the Hotel San Sebastiano. This was not just your normal 3 day break, we actually got married in Venice and had the ceremony in the garden of the hotel. We had visited Venice in November 2010 to look for potential venues for our wedding... More

The room is large. But it was hot all the time and had the smell of tar in it. They should not use that room until it is habitable. Rest of hotel was nice and quite. Location was close to #2 water taxi stop. Easy to take luggage from train station.

I particularly liked the location of this hotel - away from the crowds of San Marco and Rialto but close to the San Basilio vaporetto stop in Dorsoduro so everything you want to visit can be easily reached. Campo Santa Margherita is only a short walk with lots of outdoor cafes open until late. The rooms were clean, comfortable and... More

Our family of 4 stayed in a large room overlooking the canal for 3-nights. The room had nice historic detail and a renovated bathroom. The rear garden was a great gathering spot for our group. We appreciated the location away from the crowds of St. Marks square, but close enough to walk to all the attactions.

We enjoyed our three night stay in the San Sebastiano Garden, a tanqui oasis at the E end of Dorsoduro, near to the Basilio vaporetto stop and to a district where ‘ordinary’ Venetians live. The Piazzale Roma is less than ten minutes on foot. The property is small, more a pensione than an hotel. There is a canal in front... More

I am just finishing a 3-night stay at the San Sebastiano. While I like the location of the hotel, the attitude and service of the staff is VERY POOR! When I arrived I found urine stains on my bathroom floor and was placed in a handicapped equiped room on the first floor. When I spoke to management about this their... More

Stayed for a night and wished it was longer; the hotel was sumptuous and felt exclusive and special. It was a bit remote from the Rialto and San Marco but was 2 mins from the circular ferry which was really handy and ahem, affordable. A water taxi from San Marco is €60! Anyway if I was rich I would spend... More

Very nice little hotel in the Dorsoduro area, located on the south-western side of town. It is just a 2 minute walk from the Vaparetto (water-bus) stop, either S. Basilio or Zattere, very easy to get to from the Airport. We chose to have a regular/classic double room. The room was on the top floor, quite small, white walls and... More

I booked this hotel based on the great Trip Advisor reviews, and because my previous visits to Venice had highlighted this as a good area to stay in. For anyone who has been to Venice before and wants to get away from the crowds of S.Marco, this is an ideal base to work from. As all the other reviews point... More

Located in a quiet residential area - easy walk coming from the airport water bus - home made goodies at breakfast and freshly carved (I watched her do it) parma ham (yum!) Free computer and internet access. The hotel combines the old and new beautifully, our room was comfortable, and the bathroom was big. The staff was personable and helpful,... More

Staying in Dorsoduro / Accademia

Neighbourhood Profile
Dorsoduro / Accademia
Artsy is the defining mood of this neighbourhood with street artists, students, painters, sculptors, restorers, curators, historians, collectors, heirs and heiresses rubbing elbows. Peggy Guggenheim's collection, now a museum, lures chic locals for evening art aperitifs. Traditionalists and visionaries cocoon in bohemian luxury. La Salute basilica buttresses the neighbourhood to the east. Gondolas bob in the morning light. The Accademia Bridge crosses the Grand Canal. A back street doubles as basketball court. Palaces house residents, or like Ca' Foscari a university, or a museum like Ca’ Rezzonico that attracts Venetians for concerts. Dorsoduro reveals its industrial roots too, in buildings converted to house university departments or exhibitions. Campo Santa Margherita bursts with youthful energy from local students. Foot traffic bustles to and from Piazzale Roma and Santa Lucia train station. Evening commuters pause for an aperitivo. Neighbours exchange confidants in a campo (square) on their way to market.
