Palazzo Cendon is a hotel converted from the family home of the Cannaregio family, whose name also features in the side canal where this hotel is situated - Canal di Cannaregio. There are both pro's and con's of this hotel. Good Points 1. Authentic Venetian experience. The building still has its outer brick walls and gives an authentic experience of...

Stayed here for 4 nights and it was fantastic. The hotel is in a really good location in Cannaregio, away from the tourist crowds around St Mark's Square. It is a 3 minute walk from the waterbus stop ('Guglie') which goes directly to and from the airport (a ~40 minute trip) and to St Mark's Square (a 30 minute trip)....

Room is a bit small, but do offer a great view of the canal. Kinda hard to find since the entrance is in an alley. A bit far from the train station, the road in Venice is rough to begin with, so hauling your languages is a little challenging. But I am glad that at least this hotel is on...

We had a junior suite overlooking the canal which was great. Breakfast was a bit basic from a cold buffet nothing cooked but the hotel was in a central location not far from the main attractions and train station. Stop for river boat to airport almost right outside hotel.

We returned to the Palazzo for my wife's birthday with friends. Again we found the location perfect, the reception staff very friendly and the room quite adequate. The breakfast amused us a as even asking for more hot water was scary, but it was basic but ok. The area is great, the bar on the corner hip and happening, and...

We absolutely loved this charming little hotel and the customer service was fantastic. Everything from emailing prior to our arrival with directions to guaranteeing our canal view room even though our flight was late. We stayed 3 nights and found the front desk staff were always friendly and offered suggestions on things to do and restaurants to try in the...

Short 2 night trip to Venice, located in a quiet part of the town but easy walk to the main street. No more than a 25 minute walk to St Marco's, easy access to plenty of food options / interesting sights / neighbourhoods. Staff were very friendly and happy to help with navigating the canals.

Staying in Cannaregio

Neighbourhood Profile
Cannaregio
Cannaregio is the second largest sestiere (district) with its busy Santa Lucia train station. Many transplanted Venetians commute from the outlying areas, “terra firma” to the locals, which is shorthand for any place that is not Venice. Two Grand Canal bridges serve Cannaregio, the newest (Constitution, 2008) still a local hotbed of controversy. Ponte degli Scalzi is a busy link to the train station. Nearby shops on the Lista di Spagna offer specialties like pastries and coffee that lure Venetians with a down-to-earth attitude. The Ghetto, where the Jewish population was segregated in Cannaregio, has five historic synagogues with an active Jewish community. The Fondamente Nove bustles with foot traffic to the Rialto and San Marco while vaporettos (water taxis) head to Murano and other islands. Side streets lead into quiet picturesque neighbourhoods and palaces like Ca' d'Oro rise directly out of the water.
