Even though we had read the reviews before hand, best to collect the keys from Hotel Florida before you head to the hotel. You will need to collect the keys in advance and it's a good ten minute or so walk away. Staff on reception was so helpful and extremely friendly, was a pleasure to speak to him. Also good... More

We had a great stay at this hotel: good location near Santa Lucia Station, very nice and big room, nice staff, you can leave your baggage for some hours after check out. However, having to check in at another hotel which is not so close to the station is a disadvantage, especially when you are carrying your baggage in Venice,... More

We are budget travelers so were looking for a decent price in a good location. This hotel is a subsidiary of hotel Florida so there is minimal staff other than the cleaning lady around. It is in a good location just over teh bridge from teh Train Station. It was probably a 5 minute walk tot eh Grand canal but... More

We stayed in this B&B for 2 nights this May. Overall our experience was good. Things on which experience can be improved : 1. Check in and Checkout - is to be done at Hotel Florida which is 10 min walk. It is usually Ok, but if you are in hurry and you have bags, then good luck carrying all... More

We only stayed in Venice one night prior to joining a cruise, but chose the Casanova based on location and price and were not disappointed. It met all our requirements and having read that check in was at Hotel Florida, my wife stayed with our luggage at Piazza Roma while I went to check in ( Would recommend to do... More

Pros: The view is awesome. Its quite at night Room is nice and chic Its not too far from the bus/train and taxi stations if you dont have luggage. Cons: First the checkin has to be done at a hotel close to the train station. Breakfast costs E5 per person and is at a different location. If u have luggage... More

We stayed in thins B&B for four nights during this year Carnevale. It is located approx five minutes from Piazza Roma, but unfortunately the check-in is in the Hotel Florida, which makes the route with luggage a little bit harder. If you have heavy luggage, I would recommend to split up, because the way to hotel Florida and B&B is... More

The room is quite large with good lighting, good bathroom and it is quite private. Instructions to get there were very good. However it was quite hard to find as the doors weren't marked either outside or inside the building. In fact our door was labelled inside so we think the door has been hung back to front. Once inside... More

My friend and I recently stayed at B&B Casanova ai Tolentini. Easiest way to get into the city of Venice is to buy a bus ticket for the public bus which was €8. You can purchase that before you leave the luggage area - next to the last luggage carousel by the washroom. Otherwise you can take the Airport Express... More

The only good thing about this B & B was the room. But it is not a B & B. You book in at the Florida hotel near to the station and then lug your gear to the room at least 20 minutes away over the 2 bridges. This is OK for the young ones but I'm 65 disabled and... More

Staying in Santa Croce

Neighbourhood Profile
Santa Croce
Santa Croce gained importance as a sestiere (district) when Piazzale Roma was created in the 1930s to bring cars and buses close to the center of Venice. Constitution Bridge spans the Grand Canal linking Piazzale Roma to the train station. This area buzzes with energy from travelers and students. Historic palaces and former industrial buildings house some departments of Ca' Foscari and IUAV Architecture universities. On the Fondaco dei Turchi, Venice's Museum of Natural History offers Venetians prehistoric thrills, plus an overview of lagoon fish and wildlife. The Grand Canal, northern boundary of Santa Croce, is lined with palaces and decorated by the tall green dome of San Simeon Piccolo. Ca' Pesaro attracts Venetians to its contemporary art exhibitions. The Grand Canal exposes only one face of these buildings. On the opposite side, the palace often interacts with a square or a busy street to represent its neighbourhood identity.
