I love this hotel. It is steeped in history-from the 1200's! The rooms are very comfortable and pleasant. The breakfast room is awesome, and the breakfast is delicious-with fresh fruit, croissants, and cappuccino among our favorite things. The owners are wonderful and very helpful. It's an easy walk from the Rialto Mercato vaporetto stop, and there's a farmer's market set...

Despite the stairs, the Guerrato is an ideal base for exploring Venice. The rooms were quiet and clean, and the breakfast was all we needed. The advice to go to the Locanda Montin for lunch was the best advice of our trip. The lovely morning person helped us with our luggage and walked us to the vaporetto for our trip...

The best part about this hotel is the location. It can't be beat. Tip: From Piazza Roma take vaparetto #1. Get off at 'Rialto Mercato ' BEFORE the Rialto Bridge to save yourself unnecessary stairs and footsteps if hauling your luggage. From the Rialto Mercato stop, walk under the arch and hang an immediate right. It's just steps away down...

We stayed here in July 2015. The location was great; steps away from a vaporetto stop and a market. We had a large, double room with a shared bathroom. We had a sink in our bedroom with a big mirror. The hotel was old with character but was very clean and well maintained. The breakfast was standard. There is a...

Great location and breakfast was excellent. Walkable from 'Rialto mercado' vaporetto stop. You can take Linea No 1 during the day / night or Line No N post the midnight. 4-5 stops from Santa Lucia railway station (FERROVIA)/ piazzale roma (bus station) Easily reachable to all the major attractions to Venice by walk. Note that if you got some heavy...

First you walk up a flight of stairs to get to the checkin desk. The room was clean but sparse and well worn. One outlet in the entire room. One bright spot was the restaurant staff were pleasant and helpful. The desk clerk was extremely rude. Asked her her favorite restaurant and she got huffy when we did not want...

Really like the location next to Rialto market, public transport ferry stop, and nice bars. Very friendly and helpful staff. Compared to so many other options in Venice not too much kitsch in interior in hotel. Nice clean rooms. Really great deal and beautiful entrance. My only criticism: like supposedly many hotels they switch off heating night/early morning so we...

A conveniently situated hotel that is tucked into a tiny corner alley very close to the Rialto Bridge & Market Square. The early morning bustle of the market may prove intrusive to some, so if you're a light sleeper, I'd suggest requesting a room facing away from the market, as you'll likely want to have your windows open, especially during...

I'm going to be honest - I had very low expectations of Venice overall and from browsing the hotel's website. But by the end of my 3-night stay, I really did not want to leave. I'm horrible with names, so I can't remember who I spoke with at the front reception area, but everyone I came across was extremely friendly...

On our third trip to Venice we chose this hotel as it is one of Rick Steves' favorites. I must admit the location, steps from the Rialto Bridge and the Rialto Mercato Bridge Stop on the Vaporetto and close to the Rialto Mercato was fabulous. But the hotel was a bit disappointing. The rooms, while charming, were not spiffy. The...

Staying in San Polo

Neighbourhood Profile
San Polo
The Rialto Bridge is the most famous sight along the Grand Canal in San Polo, smallest of Venice's six sestieri (districts) and by far the busiest neighbourhood. Morning Venetians arrive to peruse the markets for fish, fruit and vegetables, while shops display goods from cheese to wine to desserts. San Silvestro and Rialto Market vaporetto (water taxi) stops add to the steady stream of foot traffic. San Polo is defined by churches including Basilica dei Frari, one of the most important churches sought by art lovers.
