My sister and I stayed here earlier this month and we very much enjoyed our stay. Venice was 30+ degrees and sunny, so it was nice to have air conditioning and a portable fridge (i.e. very small) with cold water in it. The staff were very polite, friendly, and helpful across the board. They made some good recommendations of places...

My husband, daughter, and I just returned home after spending five nights at Oltre il Giardino. We are already planning a return visit for early next year. Oltre il Giardino is located on a small canal behind the Santa Maria Gloriosa dei Frari church, in a quiet location not overwhelmed by large groups of tourists but close to excellent restaurants...

We stayed in a Junior Suite - the "Blue Room" for 5 nights in May 2008 at EUR 250 p/night and were very happy with this boutique hotel. We arrived quite late at night in the rain, after a long train trip and lugging our suitcases up and down the bridges from the train station. We were greeted by Emanuelle...

My husband and I stayed at Oltre Il Giardino for five nights in May, 2008, as we were in Venice for part of our honeymoon. We absolutely LOVED everything about this hotel -- I don't even feel it's accurate to call it a "hotel" - it's more like staying at a Venetian's home -- a really NICE, beautiful, private home....

This was my first visit to Venice and did a lot of research on where to stay. I wanted somewhere central, but quiet, and I was prepared to pay a fair bit to get somewhere special. Oltre Il Giardino won hands down, and the reality turned out to match the dream. The standard of service was exceptional, but friendly and...

Staying in San Polo

Neighbourhood Profile
San Polo
The Rialto Bridge is the most famous sight along the Grand Canal in San Polo, smallest of Venice's six sestieri (districts) and by far the busiest neighbourhood. Morning Venetians arrive to peruse the markets for fish, fruit and vegetables, while shops display goods from cheese to wine to desserts. San Silvestro and Rialto Market vaporetto (water taxi) stops add to the steady stream of foot traffic. San Polo is defined by churches including Basilica dei Frari, one of the most important churches sought by art lovers.

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
The house, which once belonged to Alma Mahler, the composer's widow who lived there in the 1920's, lies next to a small canal just a stone’s throw from the Church of the Frari, has now been turned into an exclusive but homely retreat. This enchanting place in the hearth of Venice offers something unique to those visiting the city. Our guests will feel that they have really found a home away from home. ... more   less
