We ordered a big appartment for our family and got instead 2 small appartments which we could not use because we have young children who cannot sleep in a seperate appartment. A true fraud. Awful service.

The room we got was very spooky - the doors squeak a lot - is WD40 so expensive in Venice? The Thai lady doesn't know English - we called to confirm our booking but she cancelled it instead and I had to call again to confirm it but she kept on blabbering that I wanted it cancelled.. her husband is...

The info about this hotel says it is a 5 minute walk from the vaporetta, definitely not true. This is a 15 minute walk up and down several sets of stairs through tiny streets where the names are not so visible and when you are dragging two 35 lb suitcases with you it is practically impossible. Lucky for us, Fabio,...

We paid €120 a night in September 2011 to stay here and we would happily do it again. We stayed in a double room on the first floor which had a low, beamed ceiling (which we loved). It felt like a suite or small apartment as when you go through the door there is a small hallway with the bathroom...

Nicoleta was very nice and accommodating! We arrived late in Venice, and yes, the trek to the hotel required some navigation but it was actually quite fun to wander through our map! Just be willing to ask questions on the way! When we finally found the hotel, we were VERY pleased with the quiet, less crowded location. It was very...

This B&B is not worth your time or money. Even though it is located on a canal and had breathtaking views, the rooms are run-down, smelly and dirty! Our bathroom tub had mold, the sink hadn't been cleaned and the towels felt more like brillo pads. The location of the B&B is perfect; not far from central canal and a...

We booked this B&B through budgetplaces.com. We paid our deposit and got our reference number. We thought all was fine. We fly all the way to venice and took the long trek to the B&B. Although beautiful scenery and very excited by our stay we were met by a lady at the B&B who said to us SORRY YOU CANT...

Unfortunately we had forgotten to print out a map before coming to Venice and without a map, this place is impossible to find without the help of a couple of friendly Venetians. The B&B is not extremely close to the station or a waterbus stop but it is in a great location for sightseeing and in a really nice neighborhood....

We stayed in the double room because it had a view of the canal. We felt that the room was great for the price we were paying! The location was good - we printed out a google map to find it with no problems. The hosts were lovely and the breakfast really good. I would recommend this B&B to the...

We booked a canal view room and was put in a large king size room our first night of our stay for some reason. It didn't have a view but the room was pleasant aside from a disturbing continuous odor we think was the sewer. We later learned that it is a common smell in Venice. We much preferred the...

Staying in Castello

Neighbourhood Profile
Castello
Castello is the largest of the six sestieri (districts), and the only one not facing onto the Grand Canal. More than half of Castello is situated within Arsenale, the naval base, which occupies over one-fifth the area of Venice. This gentrified maritime neighbourhood feels busy but casual. Castello’s side streets are laid back, with small boats lining canals criss-crossed by laundry. Semiannual exhibitions add a strong artsy current to the Arsenale area. Via Garibaldi in Castello, with its shops and bars, has one of Venice's rare straight and wide boulevards. When a large ship turns around the Lido to enter the Giudecca Canal, the startling sight creates an illusion that it will run aground right on Via Garibaldi! Families treasure Giardini near the island's tip, green with rare trees and grass, and Riva degli Schiavoni is a popular spot for Venetians to take a stroll to watch the sunset.
